Sylvan is Windrunner is in this game (screenshot 5). lol ben_at_blowfishstudios Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2010 136 0 0 Game Developer Sydney, Australia http://www.blowfishstudios.com #4 ben_at_blowfishstudios, Feb 10, 2016 Hi Peeps, Blowfish Studios did all the development for this game! It is inspired by a few games, but mostly by HoMM since that was a game I played a ton of growing up. The initial game idea was pretty different, but over the 2 years of development it changed to be what it is. That's a bit of a shame, but I imagine Blowfish will do something more like our original idea in the future. Legend Borne is a fun game though, so I hope you give it an honest go. It's entirely possible to have fun and progress in the game without paying. Timers are there and they get longer, but that's the norm these days anyway. I will say that DeNA has been a real pleasure to work with. You can see they've done some terrific games (and not so great ones), but they are honestly about trying different things while still trying to keep the games profitable. How else could we all stay in the industry otherwise! Let me know if you have any questions about the game or development of it! Cheers, Ben. Galvaude Active Member Jan 31, 2015 29 0 0 #5 Galvaude, Feb 10, 2016 Well, I don't like to bash on indie studios but honestly really can't like what I tried. The artwork, down to the map in the background, is way too close to Warcraft universe. Gameplay, that's not my type really, but it just feel like any other strategy games on mobile. Timers, it may be the norm but it doesn't mean it has to be this way. kyoukusanagi Well-Known Member Aug 10, 2010 191 0 16 #6 kyoukusanagi, Feb 11, 2016 its jaina vs sylvanas... in warcraft 3 ben_at_blowfishstudios Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2010 136 0 0 Game Developer Sydney, Australia http://www.blowfishstudios.com #7 ben_at_blowfishstudios, Feb 11, 2016 Games can't be for everyone, that's fine and yes it is a quite standard strategy game for mobile, that is what the publisher wanted and they paid for development. We are funding our own non-freemium games, but for consoles since people still pay for games there. Unfortunately on mobile things just keep getting worse for most devs. Siegecraft did really well in 2011, Razor Salvation did okay in 2012, Siegecraft Defender did bad in 2013. Obviously all games aren't equal, but I also know many other mobile devs who just make less than $10k on a paid game. It's simply not sustainable for a mobile game dev to make a paid game for the app stores at the moment. I'm sure hoping it changes soon though! adamphetamine Well-Known Member Jan 4, 2011 968 31 28 Programmer/3D Modeling Bethlehem, Pa #8 adamphetamine, Feb 11, 2016 It won't change as long as Devs do what u said above. I love how the battle map is an extension of your area, and you gradually uncover more territory. Also the multiplayer portion being a progression towards stronger hero unlocks is pretty cool. Runs great on my older device too, well done! Definitely has a different feel to it , so far I'm enjoying it. Pretty forgiving on the premium currency too (gems). I find them on the map all the time, and you can actually build a gem mine as a resource collector. Don't understand the hate, this one is worthy of a fair shot. For the Darkness!!! Ocythoe Member Dec 16, 2014 21 0 0 #11 Ocythoe, Feb 11, 2016 Gave this game a try for 1 day. It's basically a lazy attempt to get a piece of clash of clans and warcraft crowd. Sure, they give you 1-2 premium currency each hour but those don't mean jack when you need hundreds to do anything. I'm sure this game will become irrelevant like the rest of the CoC clones. ben_at_blowfishstudios Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2010 136 0 0 Game Developer Sydney, Australia http://www.blowfishstudios.com #12 ben_at_blowfishstudios, Feb 11, 2016 We are taking risks, just not in mobile since the chance of success there is quite low. Plus you speak like taking a risk and losing everything we've worked for the last 5 years is a simple choice. Professional game developers are real people too that like to have a good job and families. In response to your suggestion - you have so many good premium paid games coming out each week and you definitely aren't putting your money where your mouth is. I'm friends with devs who keep trying with paid and I know that they aren't making enough without extra revenue from non-premium sources. You are half right, devs have to keep making premium games, but its not freemium games that are perpetuating the problem, its the consumers that perpetuate the problem. ben_at_blowfishstudios Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2010 136 0 0 Game Developer Sydney, Australia http://www.blowfishstudios.com #13 ben_at_blowfishstudios, Feb 11, 2016 Great to hear I understand everyone has personal taste, so if you do or don't like a game it's up to the individual. I'm afraid with the current mentality of the raging interwebz it won't do you much good. But honestly: Thanks. Galvaude Active Member Jan 31, 2015 29 0 0 #15 Galvaude, Feb 11, 2016 I understand your point and it's true that consumers are part of the problem, myself included. I spend maybe 2k a year on mobile games, while my favorites games are premium, there's sometimes a couple freemiums titles I put some money in. But what bug me the most here is not the choice of paid vs freemium, or even if it's similar in gameplay to a lot of games. I am really wondering how in your five years developpement that nobody raised a flag on artwork. I'm not saying this to be mean, I like how you discuss with openly about your work. fearlesskk Well-Known Member Jan 30, 2014 133 0 0 #16 fearlesskk, Feb 12, 2016 I like to have a bunch of freeniums on my ipad so ill try this out.
