So it's one of those 'make it easier with IAP' things I guess. Not so bad - but I wish these didn't exist; I always wonder if the dev is going to make it sufficiently difficult at some point for you to either want to give up or pay to make it easier. Definitely on the fence now! Sash-O Well-Known Member Feb 13, 2015 1,570 0 0 Germany #6 Sash-O, Dec 5, 2015 I played the first two missions and found myself buying some bombs in the later levels, but they're not expensive. You will find different gun & armour types in the levels, so you don't have to buy them all the time. To get more money & find all the hidden areas, you can play the levels more often. It's a fun game, going back to start mission 3. badmanj Well-Known Member Mar 16, 2009 1,886 24 38 Software developer Reading, England http://www.underground-collective.com #7 badmanj, Dec 5, 2015 By "buy" you mean an IAP, or with coins earns by gameplay? If IAP then that pretty much shuts this down for me if you found you needed to do this after only a couple of levels. Sash-O Well-Known Member Feb 13, 2015 1,570 0 0 Germany #8 Sash-O, Dec 5, 2015 Oops, i'm sorry. I meant that you can buy bombs, weapons & armour with coins that you collect in the levels. So you don't have to invest real money! fourren New Member Jun 20, 2015 4 0 0 #9 fourren, Dec 5, 2015 I purchased this game immediately because of the art and the recommendations in the thread here. Here is my feedback Pros Nice art Cool setting The retro feel is real- looking for keycards, the sounds, the art calls back to Doom and the like. Cons * The first thing the app does is ask you for more money. I just paid $3 for this app... * Extremely basic spelling mistakes like "armor" spelled as "amour" * Finding hidden rooms feels largely uninteractive as you carry bombs that you have to buy extra and it's automatically placed for you when you pass by versus say Metroid where you actually have to look for them. * The game is fundamentally flawed from a SHMUP standpoint. Here's why: in most areas you can just hold the attack button and run back and forth from enemy max range and snipe enemies. On the other hand in rooms with tons of enemies where you can't do that your hitbox is so big (unlike say Dodonpachi) you can't possibly avoid all the shots. At that point you have to have upgraded weapons or keep rebuying your power armor. * Buying coins takes what little challenge there is out of the game. Anyhow I'll continue on a bit but so far the game is not wowing me at all so far. PianoCK Active Member Aug 16, 2015 26 0 1 Indie Developer Kiel #10 PianoCK, Dec 6, 2015 Hi Fourren, thanks for your purchase and your feedback. Very valuable. * The first thing the app does is ask you for more money. I just paid $3 for this app... I know, this is a thing most people don't like or hate. It's a bit of a sensitive topic really, a conflict between developer economics and good will. My first game Courli had 150.000 downloads. I gave it mostly for free or for 0.99 cent without having IAPs. I made in sum 3,500 Dollar after 2 years in the AppStore and another 1,5 years of development. For me as a developer a catastrophic situation. So my decision for StarDroid was: if the player finds the game too difficult they're able to make it through the game with in-app purchases. But you can be sure: You can play through all of the levels without paying for IAPs... * Extremely basic spelling mistakes like "armor" spelled as "amour" Ups. Next update, the mistake will be gone... * Finding hidden rooms feels largely uninteractive as you carry bombs that you have to buy extra and it's automatically placed for you when you pass by versus say Metroid where you actually have to look for them. My decision for StarDroid was to make the controls as easy as possible. Sorry for that... Good point. I spent half a year to make the game balanced. But I have overseen this. I think, I will make it better in the next update. * Buying coins takes what little challenge there is out of the game. Then do it without buying coins... And there are more challenges than fighting against enemy robots. E.g. finding all rare artefacts, finding all hidden rooms (although the bomb is automatically placed), solving puzzles etc. Best Christian Grimstone82 Well-Known Member Jan 3, 2011 594 0 0 Northbrook, IL #11 Grimstone82, Dec 6, 2015 I was a lucky recipient of a promo code thanks to a heads up from @Sash-o and I must say I'm really enjoying it so far! There have been many occasions where I got a promo code and decided I hated the game within 30 seconds leading to a quick deletion and a bit of guilt due to the wasted code. I am happy to say this is not one of those times. I've only had the time to put in about 30min so far and aside from almost throwing my phone against the wall from all the constant pop-up dialog boxes in the earlier levels it has been pretty great, right up there with my expectations. Thanks dev for the promo code and thanks again @Sash-o for the tip! Maybe gameplay wise they are completely different, I can't tell, but they do look similar, that's the reason why I don't take the step and buy it. Maybe an ad-supported version with an IAP to remove ads would open the game to more people... Or a demo version with 1 level.
