The story concept seems interesting! And it plays like Lifeline, with additional MMS-like feature -- they can sometime send you pics! Overall the UI looks gorgeous, the story seems interesting and I really looking forward what they will bring after this! But there's this small thing that bugs me a bit...I don't know whether it's because this is my second time playing this genre or anything, but I feel like Lifeline 1 already grabbed me in the first minutes, and I already feel that it was really like communicating with the real person. But here, I already played this for some time but I still feel like the person I'm talking to is fictional. I don't know if it's because of the story concept, or just simply the UI doesn't feel too much like some chat apps, or maybe other reasons. Again, this is maybe the effect of playing this kind of genre for 2nd time, 1st time will always feels like a blast. Nevertheless, I will play for some days and hope that I could get more and more immersed! Don't let my doubt hold your purchase, this is a great beautiful game!! You play for a couple of minutes then have to wait for 30 minutes to several hours while the other character is offline. Is the whole thing going to be like this? hyuei Well-Known Member Apr 13, 2012 49 0 6 Male #9 hyuei, Nov 26, 2015 Yep, the game mechanic is similar to Lifeline which have some "rest time", but actually for me it's kinda its own unique point which I like! I'm often busy with work, so this game which takes only small chunk of your time kinda suits me -- I can rest a while with playing, get back to work, and excitedly waiting for another news from the other world! you know, that feeling when you nervously waiting for your crush's next message Candykiller Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Dec 15, 2010 1,418 0 36 Illustrator/Designer United Kingdom http://www.candykiller.com #10 Candykiller, Nov 26, 2015 I wouldn't mind if it was some rest time, but 2 minutes of gameplay (where nothing much happens) followed by 2 hours of waiting is taking the real-time mechanic a bit far. It doesn't read like someone chatting. Especially when he's panicking. He still takes time to write out "You are right" and "I will..." I'm one of the few people who refuses to write "UR," but even I abbreviate some things in texts, tweets, etc. His texts don't feel urgent to me. It could be on purpose, though. Maybe he's not what he seems. So I'll give it a chance to play out. hyuei Well-Known Member Apr 13, 2012 49 0 6 Male #12 hyuei, Nov 26, 2015 I know, for gamer who usually plays thoroughly on one sit, this kind of genre would be hard to enjoy. But I kinda like it, haha Oh, I see. I think that's one of the reason, after I examine it I can see that the man usually use perfectly neat sentence with period after it. He rarely shouts or use some (!) marks, so maybe I didn't felt too much emotion. But again, this is still early and I agree with you, maybe this was the start of something grand. Will see through this game and give later review again! And even the game's dynamic, split up into separate little conversations - it does add to the sense of an ongoing mystery, rather than leaving it as a quest to be completed as quickly as possible. I really dig the whole "Play for a few minutes" nature of those titles and this is absolutely no different in that regard, but the issue I'm having with OBT is that it's a little too realistic with the timing. I mean, you could play 5 straight minutes of Lifeline and put it away a good few hours and there would be ridiculously long periods of blabbering sometimes, but with One Button, you play 30 seconds, the dude needs to do something and once you kill the app, realistically the fellow comes back to you after doing something that legitimately takes a minute or two. Hence you're forced to pick up your phone time and time and time again and again and again. I dunno. :/ Then again, I find I get pissy when I've just closed WhatsApp only to have someone text me, so maybe it's just me. >_> Candykiller Well-Known Member Patreon Bronze Dec 15, 2010 1,418 0 36 Illustrator/Designer United Kingdom http://www.candykiller.com #17 Candykiller, Nov 27, 2015 Last edited: Nov 27, 2015 @metalcasket - I was just going to post exactly the same thing. The pacing is all wrong. You never get a chance to play large enough chunks of the story to care what is going on. And as soon as I've given up waiting for the character to come back and started playing another game, I get a notification that he's back. (for about 30 seconds) It's more annoying than enjoyable. I'm just about ready to give up and bin it. AppUnwrapper Well-Known Member Oct 26, 2011 4,062 3 0 http://www.appunwrapper.com/escape-games/ #18 AppUnwrapper, Nov 27, 2015 I don't think the pacing bothers me as much as that it doesn't really feel like the guy's texting. Not consistently, at least. Or maybe the pacing is part of it. I mean, if I don't answer him for an hour, he waits for me to make a decision for him like whether or not to hide? And he'll shout something like "oh no!" when something scares him, and normally you wouldn't text someone as you're having that thought. So it feels a little disjointed. I'm torn, though. I like the concept and I want to see where it goes. I'm just not sure the execution is done well. I also didn't play Lifeline or The Martian. I wonder if all these games are just meant to be played on a Watch and the experience doesn't transfer well to an iPhone? metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #19 metalcasket, Nov 27, 2015 Lifeline and The Martian are the same way, both in terms of the text and the waiting. I understand your problem with the latter, but I think it would be super annoying to have to read sum1 typ liek dis in a game. I mean...there's some effort put in the writing and "omg wut da hayle" would just kill any immersion for me. Oh, and yeah...I think it goes without questioning that this entire discussion wouldn't be happening (about the waiting) if we were all playing this on the Apple Watch. AppUnwrapper Well-Known Member Oct 26, 2011 4,062 3 0 http://www.appunwrapper.com/escape-games/ #20 AppUnwrapper, Nov 27, 2015 No, but he types stuff out like "I will pretend that I just woke up" while he's in potential danger. At least go with "I'll pretend I just woke up." He uses contractions sometimes, but not other times. It really takes me out of the moment. And that the messages are waiting for me, and yet he's typing them out when I open the app. I should try Lifeline and see if it feels the same way for me. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
