Starting on the next levels, 4x4, and the difficulty really ramps up. Havent tried hints or clues yet, so i dont know if those work or not, but so far everything looks great. I never had issues with Alpha Omega either though, so maybe I have a charmed iphone? Playing with a 6+ with ios 9.1. Game center looks to working fine as well for me. mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #4 mr_bez, Nov 12, 2015 Last edited: Nov 12, 2015 Can't say fairer than that. Go on then! EDIT: I quite like it, but I can't for the life of me understand why you can only swap tiles vertically or horizontally. Let me swap any two letters. Solving the puzzles is challenge enough without making the UI deliberately awkward. pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #5 pluto6, Nov 12, 2015 I am hoping that the letter movement is limited to indicate relative letter positions. Othwise in the 5,6, or 7 letter grids the possibilities become endless without having at least a few of the letters positions known. borderLeap Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Aug 9, 2012 190 0 16 Founder & Game Creator @ BorderLeap http://borderleap.com #6 borderLeap, Nov 12, 2015 Yes - without divulging too much, I can say that letter movement is in fact limited Hey mr_bez - thanks for your feedback! Swapping only vertically/horizontally is a UX decision I made to help keep possibility of letter options within a constraint. In relation to pluto6's comment above allowing for diagonal swapping would've made deciphering the puzzle near-impossible (in my opinion) in tougher levels. The 5x5 and above grids are scrambled within this constraint of vertical/horizontal swaps - and within a limited number. So, while they do get very tough, they're all solvable Hope that all makes sense! And about Alpha Omega... yes there was a period of time there where the game was a bit buggy. Sorry you had experienced that. The game is huge in size and complexity and I'm always working hard to ensure it's running smoothly. On that note, update 2.3.6 released yesterday fixed a couple of minor bugs - the latest version is pretty solid. mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #7 mr_bez, Nov 12, 2015 Last edited: Nov 12, 2015 Honestly, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe it'll mean more to me when I reach the 5x5 puzzles! At the moment I'm on 4x4 grids and it's usually possible to work out what letters belong on the diagonals, but harder to know what order they go in. If I could swap diagonals it'd be easier to keep track of these key tiles. I also like to arrange the grid so it's symmetrical about the diagonal then swap pairs of letters at a time, e.g. swap two R's with two S's. Most of the time they aren't on the same row or column so it takes 4 steps rather than two to achieve this. EDIT: P.S. No bugs or other issues though! pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #8 pluto6, Nov 12, 2015 @borderleap - slewis in the upcoming thread made a comment about letting the user decide when the puzzle should disappear. This makes sense to me particularly when the onscreen solved time is pretty short and there does not appear to be a mechanism to revisit past solved puzzles in case you were looking at various words. I imagine this becomes more important with larger grids if you want to remeber what those last couple words were. Or, you could lengthen the time a bit with a tap to close it earlier. Starting to get the hang of the 4x4 although there is a bit of trial and error. mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #9 mr_bez, Nov 13, 2015 I'm on to the 5x5 grids and the horizontal/vertical swap thing still isn't helping. You might have scrambled the grid by only making a specific number of these swaps, but there's nothing which indicates which way they were swapped and nothing that stops you moving any letter to any other spot on the grid, so I still think this "helping hand" does nothing to help solve the puzzles and is more of a hindrance. borderLeap Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Aug 9, 2012 190 0 16 Founder & Game Creator @ BorderLeap http://borderleap.com #10 borderLeap, Nov 13, 2015 Thanks for the feedback... So, overall the game will be and is supposed to be quite challenging. You are definitely well into the challenging levels. As you might have discovered, a bit of logic (word structure, consonants/vowels, occurrence of a certain letter) is required to solve each puzzle. And as the app description indicates, "use hints, clues and logic to decipher each square". I was watching a friend of mine struggle with a 6x6 board, resisting use of any hints until he solved a word. It was cool to watch him think through the possibility of what words could be where and trying different strategies. In my opinion, that's the beauty of the game - how one person solves a level will most likely be different that how everyone else chooses to solve it. If you use hints and clues sparingly to help give a little "boost" to help solve one word, naturally the remaining words become exponentially easier to solve. In short, that's why the hints and clues are there... and as you've seen at the end of the 3x3 boards and 4x4 boards, by finishing those you're awarded 3 and 4 hints, respectively. All in all, the horizontal/vertical nature of how blocks are swapped is just the nature of the game These are some of the challenges that a game designer/developer goes through - trying to balance user experience with gameplay and also with monetization... As a designer myself, there's a metaphorical reason for the horizontal/vertical swapping too - the theme of "square" has prevalence throughout the game in many ways. I do appreciate your constructive feedback and must say congrats on making it into the 5x5 boards! pluto6 Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2009 5,837 3 38 Military #11 pluto6, Nov 13, 2015 Congrats on making frontpage Apple Apps in the Best New Games section. coolpepper43 ð® Spam Police ð Aug 31, 2012 4,615 7 38 On the toilet #12 coolpepper43, Nov 15, 2015 This is such a good word puzzler. The tile swapping is annoying and gets in the way of the core game. This game is great. Get it while it's FREE!!!! It's a very well made word game. Challenging and rewarding.
