The past two or three years saw a lot of board game conversions to iOS but 2015 has been pretty sparse. Steam is rated #57 on BoardGameGeek and anything in the top 200 would be considered an excellent game. I don't know much about this implementation yet, but the source material is definitely top-shelf. Be forewarned though - there are maps that have to be downloaded and these take an absurdly long time. Honestly, start downloading them when you go to bed! Baracus Well-Known Member Jun 19, 2009 1,023 0 36 UK http://www.hatenintendo.co.uk #3 Baracus, Nov 3, 2015 Yea picked it up thinking I'd have a quick go before the missus went to sleep. Nope... took 45 mins to download maps (note I have really slow internet so it's probably like 5 mins for normal people). Buuuuut... Tutorial is not working for me. Just hangs on "loading" screen. I can start a game against AI but don't know what to do at all. Had a fiddle and it won't allow any of my actions so there is a lot I am obviously missing. Trial and error is not the way to learn this. Shame... There is a PDF manual but it's for the board game so loads of unnecessary detail I think. And I haven't got the energy to read all that right now. Will do over the weekend. I think there are only 2 maps though so no idea why they are so big to download. Son of Anarchy Well-Known Member Oct 5, 2015 717 130 43 Male Shadow Runner Australia #4 Son of Anarchy, Nov 3, 2015 Hmmmmm... probably not the ideal first experience you'd like to have with a game. I was glad to see it was premium though and I'll be keeping my eye on it. Thanks for your impressions. Rattyfus Well-Known Member May 8, 2012 57 0 0 #5 Rattyfus, Nov 4, 2015 Wow, maps took about 90 mins to download, the game is now 400 Mb Had the same issue with the tutorial when running it from New Game, but the good news is that it ran fine from the Help menu. Time to do some studying, I think. When it tries to do the initial download for the maps it says "unable to connect to the Internet" and then crashes to the home screen. I've rebooted and tried countless times and it just won't work. My device is an iPad Air 2. cameron331 Well-Known Member Nov 22, 2010 163 4 18 #8 cameron331, Nov 4, 2015 'unable to connect to the internet. 404 not found.' I've read a lot of people saying they cannot get the maps to download, I guess maybe a server issue? I'll give it a bit longer before I ask for a refund. A real shame the launch is going like this, especially since I haven't been able to find any support site. nuutsch Well-Known Member Jul 18, 2012 116 0 0 #9 nuutsch, Nov 4, 2015 Same here. iPhone 6+ RandallPeek Well-Known Member May 21, 2014 60 0 0 #10 RandallPeek, Nov 4, 2015 You actually only get one map unless you plunk down an extra four bucks for the German map. The default map is for northeastern US and southeastern Canada. This is a brutal game. Don't be surprised if you wind up in last place or even bankrupt playing against easy opponents. The learning curve here is shockingly steep. If you want to be good at this, I suggest the strategy articles at BoardGameGeek. Keitch83 Well-Known Member Nov 19, 2010 226 0 0 #11 Keitch83, Nov 4, 2015 Yep,download error 404 for me during map downloads too. iPhone 6+ JB. burningzenithx Member Nov 1, 2011 18 0 1 Austin, TX #12 burningzenithx, Nov 4, 2015 I got the "cannot connect to the Internet" error earlier. I just tried it again and everything is now working fine. The game was able to connect to download the maps and did so in under 30 seconds. Seems it was just some day one server issues. Now here's hoping the rest of the game functions smoothly. Son of Anarchy Well-Known Member Oct 5, 2015 717 130 43 Male Shadow Runner Australia #13 Son of Anarchy, Nov 4, 2015 Has anyone been able to have a game of this yet? Is it enjoyable, or too hard and frustrating? I really wanted this to be good but everything I've read so far spells 'not quite ready for release'. Mack the Knife Well-Known Member Jun 21, 2012 562 0 0 #15 Mack the Knife, Nov 4, 2015 was that for the map download that everyone's having a problem with or does the game require an internet connection to play? D1vi8 Well-Known Member May 22, 2014 234 5 18 Belgium #16 D1vi8, Nov 5, 2015 Just played one game and lost big. Thats a good thing because I am still learning how to play. So far, it is a very enjoyable boardgame, fun and challenging. App is polished, nice clear interface. I can take my langage 'Dutch' wich is very nice. Before playing I learned the rules by watching a youtube video. I always do that, gives a good insight of the boardgame itself. pcraven18 New Member Nov 5, 2015 1 0 0 #17 pcraven18, Nov 5, 2015 It plays very well. I'd never played the physical game but was very excited to see it for ios, as far as i'm concerned it doesn't disappoint. It took an hour to download the maps then crashed every time I tried the tutorial, then I realised the best way to access the tutorial is through the in game menu instead of the main menu. Since then i've had no trouble. It's a hard game to beat with a steep learning curve at first but I soon got the hang of it, I even won my second game agains two easy IAs. If you were interested in this release, give it a go, I think it's well made with loads of replayability. cofunguy Well-Known Member Sep 24, 2012 825 0 0 #18 cofunguy, Nov 6, 2015 Yes this board game does have a pretty big learning curve. Of course there are quite a few maps out there too! Too bad they released this with all of the issues of not being able to download the maps, unable to switch out of the app (or the game closes...REALLY?? Who didn't think of that occurring?) as well as server overload. Obviously their beta test was a very small group of people and maybe didn't know how to play as well. I would wait a week or so before downloading /buying so maybe they will get some of these issues fixed. But knowing TA policy on reviews (and seems to be one that allows some apps to get fixed after the review and others not), I suspect it won't get a great review based on the last 2 days of issues. And charging $7 without online play..really? I can't see why they released without this item. Playing with AI gets boring pretty quick if you know what those AI personalities like to do. And it isn't like the board game doesn't have lots of players. This one item just makes one shake their head. islesfan Well-Known Member Jul 25, 2012 319 3 18 Male Teacher Nevada #19 islesfan, Nov 6, 2015 Its a fun but frustrating game. The tutorial is pretty incomplete and I've found myself with no known move (nothing I try works), so I end up ending my turn early because I can find nothing to do. I've had it tell me repeatedly that I cannot place tracks on a city when I'm placing a track on green grass. I've read through the PDF in frustration and that explained some more stuff, but I still find myself not being allowed to do anything with no apparent reason. I'll keep trying though because the game seems worthwhile. clarsonx Well-Known Member Sep 29, 2009 100 0 16 #20 clarsonx, Nov 7, 2015 I found this how to play video to be useful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6YMCVg2_Ak (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
