The strategy and skill really are focused into a few main areas of the gameplay. First it's important to equip the right gear combinations as you advance in the game as gear bonuses stack. You can really get some awesome load outs for your characters down the road as you collect a lot of loot. Secondly, there are many different character types and some parties work well together while others don't. For example, there is a character who can curse characters weakening them to critical hits and another character who can do massive critical damage. Playing them together works really well. When playing the game, the action happens in real time so you have to place your characters and launch their attacks (and special attacks) at the correct time in order to maximize the damage your party is doing. Sometimes you have to use a character as a tank to absorb damage and move another character in at the right moment to take an enemy out. Each characters attack has a different range and ability, so moving your characters around in real time as enemies advance really gets your mind working. When the battle gets really hectic it feels like a fast paced puzzle game. We tried to get the difficulty curve right, so the early levels should be pretty easy to get the hang of things while the later levels can get really challenging and require picking the right strategy. In our last runs through the game, it took us (the devs) about 6 hours to play through. I'm going to assume it would take longer for a new player to complete. We are really excited about the core gamplay though, and are planning on releasing a free update for everyone who has the game with another campaign that fills in some backstory for some of the characters. That should add another 2-3 hours of additional campaign length.
