Deceptively cute, Dandy is a bit of a different take on a 2D shoot 'em up. Enemies are reactive and their behavior is based on your actions. Going in guns (er, wands) blazing is usually not the best idea. As you encounter new enemies, you'll need to experiment and figure out their behavior, with an almost puzzle like element to getting through each set of enemies. Each map is randomly generated and power-ups are randomly spawned, so each run through is different. • Thousands of power-up combinations, with powerful synergies to discover. Each powerup gives Dandy a completely new look. • Procedurally generated maps make each playthrough different and challenging. • Reactive enemies that force you to strategize. Coming in with guns (er, wands) blazing will often be a bad choice. • Awesome original soundtrack. • Universal App - Buy once to play on all your iOS devices. • Pay Once and Play Information Seller:Wefiends, Inc. How long is a successful run? 2. What is the variety in boss battles? 3. How different are the various power-ups? Edit: I found some answers here, hopefully it will entice more players too. It's like a great combination of Binding of Isaac and Nuclear Throne poured into a shmup mould. I say Nuclear Throne as well because the difficulty and intensity is much higher than Binding of Isaac, so you get shorter but much more intense runs. The pickups are all very interesting. When you die on a run where you picked up new items, one of those new items will be unlocked to show up randomly on runs from on instead of just through the end of level choices. Overall, anyone who likes Isaac, shmups or Shooting Stars should give this a shot. Highly recommended. Edit: [1 hour later] I think this is my favorite game from this week's releases. It's just incredibly fun and addictive. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #18 metalcasket, Aug 29, 2015 Last edited: Aug 29, 2015 I believe that item shows up at the exact location you died. Yeah, the game's just something else. It's so charming and cute, yet easily one of the most punishing games on the App Store. It's funny because you'd think a bullet-hell shmup would trump this in difficulty, yet the unrelenting nature of the enemies and the sheer amount of variation puts most bullet-hell shooters to shame. I'm just curious about the length of the game. I know from...somewhere, that it was mentioned the game encourages you to play at least 3 times. Perhaps that's related to the 3 items at the very first totem in the game, but I have no idea at this stage. There's no Game Center support in the game, but as there seems to be an end-point, there's really no need for leaderboards. Is there really a need to have a "Farthest Distance Reached" leaderboard? Perhaps achievements? I dunno if the Steam version has any. Oh, and the one thing I love is how the game utterly punishes you for holding down the shoot "button". Right off the bat your pellets become frickin' tiny if you spam, whereas they're much larger if you're cool and calculated. This could be the sleeper hit of the year. It's tremendous. EDIT: Oh, and the OCD in me can't let this one slip by. The title of the game should be: Dandy: Or a Brief Glimpse into the Life of the Candy Alchemist sapphire_neo Well-Known Member Jan 20, 2011 3,934 0 0 #19 sapphire_neo, Aug 29, 2015 Nice catch, I didn't even notice that about the item drop. So there are no permanent unlocks, or you could say everything is already unlocked, making it a very skill oriented game. The item drop is sort of a way of incentivizing replaying the game immediately. As for the length, there are a few clues in the Steam achievements And speaking of achievements, I would love to see them ported over throw GameCenter, and would love to see leaderboards too. The power "discharge" is definitely a cool feature, especially when you realize how many enemies are designed to not be spam attacked. noteatino Well-Known Member Jun 27, 2014 555 0 0 #20 noteatino, Aug 29, 2015 This looks like a must buy. Anyone knows the full lenght? (Obviously there's replayability factor) (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
