Anyone tried it out yet? Pedroapan rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #4 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 I've tried it a lot... well, because I'm the creator/designer! I've played both games many times and can tell you there are some similarities. You Against Me (YAM) is a head to head game like Kindo. You can play two computer AIs, through Game Center or Pass & Play on the same device. Another similarity is learning strategy to play and win the game. Just like Kindo, the more you play, the more you understand the strategy and more thinking goes into the game. It also offers multiple themes like Kindo and has a flat UI too. Both are fun games. If you like Kindo and playing against AIs and through Game Center, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy YAM. If you're looking for a comp to another game, I'd say it's a mixture between Letterpress and Lost Cities. Tango Well-Known Member Sep 11, 2010 455 0 16 #5 Tango, Jul 30, 2015 Is the online via Game Center real time or asynchronous? rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #6 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 Asynchronous... But as you play, the game will update as soon as your opponent plays so, depending on your opponent and how quick they play, it can seem like real time. Tango Well-Known Member Sep 11, 2010 455 0 16 #7 Tango, Jul 30, 2015 Nice! Adaptive Asynchronous! Lavender Well-Known Member Dec 31, 2013 2,966 0 36 United States #8 Lavender, Jul 30, 2015 Fun game. I love the description you gave about making the game. Admittedly, the only card game apps I'm used to, are solitaire and poker. I wanted to give this one a try because it was TA members that made it. So.....'You Against Me'.... Once you figure out how to play, it is quite easy and fun. You can play online, against local players or the AI. Just a tap of the finger controls everything you need. The basic goal is that you want to cover as many numbered spaces as you can with your cards. You can steal your opponents spaces, lock a space from the opponent and/or take the card they're about to use. Although, keep in mind, they can do all the same to you! Yikes! To play this game requires strategy. I would advise that new players, play the tutorial and/or read the directions first. Admittedly, the first time I played I was more then confused (although I won the game! LOL) So I stopped, read the directions, played the tutorial one more time and then... easy peasy. I am really enjoying this card game. I think it should be right up there with solitaire ( but for two players) in popularity. I am going to keep playing and practicing and then watch out.... Cause I just might be online waiting for you, to play against me, or me play against you, in a game of 'you Against Me' so that you or me can win 'you Against me'...... Huh? rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #9 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 And if it seems to lag, tap the screen and it'll check for a move to update. Pedroapan Well-Known Member Aug 25, 2010 313 0 16 #10 Pedroapan, Jul 30, 2015 Thanks a lot for the friendly reply. That alone sold me the game. Yes, I'm that easy! And the game looks good as well. P rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #11 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 No problem. Hope you enjoy the game! I'm up for playing anytime. drelbs Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2009 11,201 7 38 #12 drelbs, Jul 30, 2015 Last edited: Jul 30, 2015 I was lucky and got to play this one early via promo code. This is a neat quick card/board game which uses two familiar mechanics: 1) Taking over cells by playing cards, a line of three cards (or the two adjacent cards for a corner) locks the card permanently. 2) Rummy like card draws where you have a hand, and have to choose to draw to help yourself or hinder your opponent. There is a serious twist to #2 however. There are two stacks of cards, one in your color, one in your opponent's. If you draw from your opponent's stack, the card flips over and the number you get is random... There are two decks of 20 cards, to play on a 5x5 grid numbered 1 through 25. Game ends when you run out of cards to draw. The numbers on the cards are random, and include stars, which are wildcards. There's an easy and a hard AI to play against for quick games, but playing against another human is where it's at. I played a few games against my daughter and she really enjoyed it. You can also play online via GameCenter. The game keeps win/lose stats, which should satisfy Lord Gek. If I were to ask for anything it would be AppleTV support - it works OK with screen mirroring, but since the game plays in portrait, it doesn't use the screen much. (The game itself does IMHO work best in portrait.) An option to set the sound / music volumes instead of just on/off would be great - the music is catchy, but I ended up turning it off. Playing through music on the device might be another nice option. rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #13 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 Thanks for the kind words and glad you're enjoying it. I like your suggestions. I'll definitely pass them along. Thanks again for the writeup! Pedroapan Well-Known Member Aug 25, 2010 313 0 16 #14 Pedroapan, Jul 30, 2015 Cool game! Did you give me the game or was I just really lucky? P rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #15 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 That was all you. I'm too competitive to give away games! Glad you enjoyed it. Pedroapan Well-Known Member Aug 25, 2010 313 0 16 #16 Pedroapan, Jul 30, 2015 Cool! How is the score calculated? I think I got like 25 but there is only 25 squares and I pretty sure I didn't have all... P rjsim Well-Known Member Sep 21, 2008 142 0 0 #17 rjsim, Jul 30, 2015 Two points for a locked square; one point for a covered square. deathismario Member May 15, 2014 7 0 0 #18 deathismario, Jul 30, 2015 I thankfully had the pleasure of trying this game out before its initial release! Now, what I've been able to play with the few people I have is that, it's pretty easy to learn, but hard to master game. Although there were some bugs, like having an online game go missing only for me to restart to app to find it again. And the "completed games" part of the game (when you hit online) can be annoying, since it only says who you've played against, and not the score. Not sure if this Game Center, or just the app, but it's there nonetheless, and hopefully will be fixed. There's local multiplayer, so if you don't have anyone else with the same device as you, you can play with them in the same room!! I cannot begin to tell you how needed this would've been, because it could've completely made the game un-playable within the next year or two. You can also play with bits in local, so you can always test your skills there! There are PLENTY of themes to choose from, so it definitley gives the game a great look if your bored of the color scheme of the original! Although, personally to me, some of them tend to seem..I don't know, un-vibrant. Some of them feel the same as others. But this is just me personally. The game overall is great fun to play, and I'd definitley recommend it to anyone! 4/5 stars! Stroffolino Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Apr 28, 2009 1,100 8 38 Software Engineer Pennsylvania http://www.northernbytes.ca #19 Stroffolino, Jul 30, 2015 In case any mod is reading, this thread is apparently undiscoverable via forum search, as "You" "Against" and "Me" are all rejected as words in a Touch Arcade forum search, even if one puts "You Against Me" in quotes. Not sure if anything can be done about that. With the use of wild cards and face down piles, You Against Me has a good mix of skill and luck. That being said, I'm lucky to win 1 game in 6 against Ryan. We've seen our share of Game Center glitches (mostly in sandbox mode and not production). But updating the text for completed games is something that could easily be done, and I like the idea of putting the actual scores there. In the meantime, you should be able to click on the (i)nfo button to see the winner/loser within Game Center UI, or tap on the game to launch and see the final (completed) board state and scores. Regarding themes, yeah, there a lot of 'em. Ryan once joked that he tends to go overboard on themes when designing games. One thing he did that I quite like is to include both a "daytime" and "night" variation for each theme. modus_ataraxia Well-Known Member Jan 7, 2015 328 0 0 #20 modus_ataraxia, Jul 31, 2015 Got the chance to play a few matches vs. the AI, and a couple games of local pass n play. I'm enjoying this one. It's fresh, but has the makings of classics like Othello. Pass n play and online make this definitely worth it. I would like to see some variant modes, too, to help keep things fresh. Different board shapes, locked tiles, maybe special moves where a player can lock out a spot. Overall, a good game. Worth a look, especially for the price. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
