Ninja'd yet again by Pete As for the game, this is going to be awesome... Been waiting for this since it was announced! L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #4 L.Lawliet, Feb 9, 2015 I'd love to hear some impressions on this. Though I like the art, after watching the trailer I couldn't really tell much about it besides seeing monsters being knocked off over the edges. PeteOzzy Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2013 4,596 3 0 Norwich, England #5 PeteOzzy, Feb 9, 2015 I was in the beta so I can't give in-depth impressions as they might not be accurate but I'll do my best. There's little point denying the Hoplite comparison even though I was beta testing this when it released but it's a good one to make as there's the same kind of strategy and punishment for mistakes in this. It's much more forgiving at the same time though and because it's a structured adventure there's more in the way of variety and potential longevity. I still love Hoplite more if I'm brutally honest but to be fair Auro was constantly updating and changing so I haven't seen the finished product in the way it's meant to be seen. I'm not hesitating to buy this at full price and I don't have any problems recommending it. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #6 metalcasket, Feb 9, 2015 For anyone on the fence, Pocket Gamer rated this a 9/10 on Android a while ago. To this day I'm still playing it, still loving it, and would probably call it one of the best single-player experiences I've ever had. One of the main reasons: This game is one of the best examples of emergent gameplay I've ever seen. You are not hitting monsters until they die here, but instead have to employ creativity and ingenuity to find ways of getting rid of them. A small example for those who've never seen the game: - You can e.g. place down ice and let monsters slide across it into the water (that's a relatively simple interaction). - But then you could also place a flame down, then place ice so that it surrounds that flame, and then make a monster slide over the ice tiles into the flame. - Then you could place an air vortex, let a monster slide across ice into the vortex, which then makes it fly into the air, an additional tile further, and maybe into a flame you placed before. You see where this is going, I think. This is just one exemplary usage of 3 of the spells and they have a lot more depth to offer, but then there are right now 9 total spells in the game. And on top of that all the monsters you encounter have their behavior, their own tactical abilities that also interact in tons of interesting ways with one another, the terrain, and the spells. It's a super-tight system that has been honed for four years, where every element truly has its place. Combined with the metagame's dynamic difficulty selection (don't think of Skyrim, think "single-player matchmaking" instead) it's really a unique game with evergreen potential. Beyond the gameplay though, the production values have to be mentioned as well. The trailer will give you a first impression of the great pixel art and soundtrack. If you're interested in longer bits of gameplay, there's a tutorial video made by the devs themselves. If you're into unqiue indie productions or deep strategy games in general, definitely give it a shot! This game will be supported for a long time and see regular updates for bugfixes, gameplay improvements and more.
