With 49 new army lists, 2 new nations and 10 historical scenarios, get ready for some epic challenges in the heart of the Renaissance! In the age of Pike and Shot, mighty struggles erupted across Europe for causes religious, political or dynastic. In 1494 A.D. The first of the Italian Wars broke out, starting a long struggle for dominance in the region, involving many major belligerents such as France, the Holy Roman Empire and Spain. After years of fighting, the conflict was not resolved until 1559. Then from 1618 until 1648, The Thirty Years War raged across Germany and beyond, leaving devastation in its wake, but saw the rise of great commanders such as Count Tilly, Wallenstein and King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, and rapid developments in battlefield tactics. The Thirty Years War saw the involvement of great empires such as the Spanish and the French empires, as well as the Swedes. And starting at 1642, the English Civil War erupted, tearing the country apart between Royalists and Parliamentarians as the fought for control of the country. After many musket volleys and cavalry charges, it was the famous Olivier Cromwell who led the Parliamentarians to victory, ending the conflict in 1651. All these wars were fought during the age of Pike and Shot, a time where musketeers “gave fire” in a duel to the death, pikemen held stolidly against enemy assaults, and cavalry charged to glory or defeat. Now you can march into the footsteps of the great leaders of these wars, as you can take command in the greatest historical battles of the Italian Wars, the Thirty Years War and the English Civil War. Fight stand-alone “what-if” scenarios, or design your own scenarios using the easy to use editor and claim glory in Pike & Shot! This, Exiles, and Fahrenheit (and maybe HMM3), wow... I never played Battle Academy, though. There have just been way too many WW2 strategy games, but I am all for a game based on Early Modern Warfare. Here's hoping that maybe Paradox might release Rise of Prussia (or is that a Slitherine game now?) for iOS... Edit: wait, HOMM3 IS out?!? Yep, my poor, poor, wallet... I may have to actually choose... Maybe this and Fahrenheit and wish list the other two? Looks fantastic, will await some impressions from the usual suspects. The AI is one of the best I've ever seen and the battles really capture the period feel. Definitely a must have for any fans of the period! ojtitus Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2010 3,228 5 38 Male Canton, Ohio #6 ojtitus, Jan 29, 2015 Glad to see this make it's way onto iOS. Thank You Slitherine! D1vi8 Well-Known Member May 22, 2014 234 5 18 Belgium #7 D1vi8, Jan 29, 2015 PC version sure got great reviews! Pocket Tactics and Armchair General (94%) highly recommanded the PC version. I own BA 1 and 2. Is there a simularity with BA in gameplay or is it a completely different game? Hope slitherine will wait a while now with releasing Order of Battle: Pacific. I am not even half in the grand campaign of Panzer Corps... Pike & Shot captures the feel of large battles from the Renaissance and you have to plan far ahead as its all about getting the right troops to the right place and the right match ups. Tactical decisions still make a difference but will find it hard to make up for a strategic blunder. Battle Academy is tactical in scale with units being individual tanks or 1-8 men. There is still a lot to think about but its far more tactical and less about the big picture. Strategic decisions still influence the results but its more important to get the tactical decisions right than the strategic ones. Obviously a player with both good tactical and strategic skills will do best at both but it just depends where your interest lies. cplr Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2011 468 0 0 #16 cplr, Jan 30, 2015 Does this use the engine from BA1 or BA2? D1vi8 Well-Known Member May 22, 2014 234 5 18 Belgium #17 D1vi8, Jan 30, 2015 I love BA and BA2 (I prefer BA1 above BA2). It is a great game but you 'll need some time to understand the mechanics of the game. I have played Pike and Shot for about 2 hours now (tutoiral), and I have the impression that Pike and Shot is much more harder than BA(2) and has more tactical depth than BA(2). I think that BA is more accessible than Pike and Shot and easier to master. rymdkultur Active Member Mar 9, 2014 26 0 0 #18 rymdkultur, Jan 30, 2015 thanks for the replies! i'll go with pike and shot. i've played dozens of ww2 strategy games, and the fact that i'm swedish makes this game a bit more tempting. will most probably buy BA1+2 at some point as well. So far I think it's one of the greatest (and most original) strategy games for iPad, and a quality port. I'm hoping the dev team will continue to support it as well. The guys at PocketTactics have been promoting it so hopefully that will help with sales.
