Holy crap...if any game deserves attention, it's this! I'm talking the same calibur as Canabalt here. This is like a delicious mix between Canabalt (simple yet perfect auto-runner with no frickin' ads or IAPs), Expander (risk vs. reward system) and Castlevania (whipping candles, incredible soundtrack) dipped in some gorgeous Game Boy visuals. Come on people!!! Oh, and even this came out yesterday, I'm leaving the NZ tag on the thread so it grabs your attention. sink_or_swim Well-Known Member Feb 4, 2012 3,504 5 38 Germany #3 sink_or_swim, Oct 1, 2014 I had my eyes on this one but I'm confused about the screenshots. Is there some kind of multiplier? And how does it affect your score? I just see the distance on the screenshots. And is GC already integrated? The description says "coming soon" Pipipitchu Well-Known Member May 4, 2013 1,644 0 0 Civil Servant Rio de Janeiro, Brazil #4 Pipipitchu, Oct 1, 2014 Looks great, but feels like a waste. I mean, it's only one more runner in the end. NOEN Well-Known Member Jul 31, 2012 3,245 0 0 U.S. #5 NOEN, Oct 1, 2014 This does look cool. The only thing that was keeping me from picking it up was the lack of any kind upgrading. (Just from reading the description.) It seems like mainly a high score chaser with nothing to collect or upgrade. I could be wrong though. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #6 metalcasket, Oct 1, 2014 Every candle you hit increases your multiplier, yes. Your score is calculated by multiplying your distance, multiplier and accuracy (of successful candle whips). Oh, and yeah... It looks like the GC support is. not yet in, even though the logo is already listed in the app description psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,971 722 113 England #7 psj3809, Oct 1, 2014 LOVE the Gameboy look and feel and music. But are there levels or is it just one constant 'same-ish' background all the time ? metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #8 metalcasket, Oct 1, 2014 Well, you have to take into consideration the direction endless runners have taken recently. This is plain and simply back to basics. No rubbish consumable power-ups, no pay to win elements...nothing but a pure arcade experience. One I'm pretty sure the now-lurking Gabrien would be proud of and recommend. Nah, you're not wrong. Seems like it's the one background. Who knows if that'll change in the future. So yes, Game Center leaderboards are in the next update - and provided iOS handles scores the way I think it does, your highest score that you have now will be posted to Game Center when you update (subject to testing of course) Achievements will be coming too! If you have any questions, let me know. I'm more than happy to expand the app... within reason Oh and regarding levels - if there's enough of a desire, I could think about adding more (I know my musician would love to compose some more music). Instabuy for me. Love the nods to Castlevania. Thank you for gracing my iPhone with this, I love these faithful 8-bit. I call them faithful because, well, that's what they are, you're not just emulating the art style but the genuine feel of the Game Boy era... PLEASE give us more. I hope this is a huge success for you. P.S. One minor suggestion - the pause button seems oddly placed. I'm afraid I'm going to hit it with my left thumb and that will surely end the run. Regarding the pause button, I think I'm going to put in an option to move it to the bottom left, middle or right - I'll get that in for the next version Sanuku Well-Known Member Jun 14, 2009 11,954 4 38 Austria http://www.touchgameplay.com #17 Sanuku, Oct 2, 2014 Game Impressions Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel garbul Well-Known Member Oct 2, 2014 148 0 0 #18 garbul, Oct 2, 2014 Played a bit more this morning. Addictive! There is a lot of very nice polish. I had two more thoughts, a quirky idea and a suggestion... Sometimes I wish Jack would be a bit more responsive as he jumps and I want to whip. Is this possible or do I just need to whip only on coming down from a jump? I often try and get a candle as I jump but I usually miss. Quirky idea... it would be sweet to unlock a mode where instead of Jack you play that funny bat that appears at death. Maybe an alternative attack on the candle like a fireball or something. I'll post a review in App Store soon. Sean Noonan Well-Known Member Sep 28, 2014 112 0 16 Male Lead level designer on Gears Tactics UK http://noonan.design #19 Sean Noonan, Oct 3, 2014 Thanks for playing! Regarding the jump - whip responsiveness. Having a whip directly from a jump was possible in initial versions but as I developed the game, the tuning of the candle heights and gap distances meant resulted in the need for a tighter whip window - so unless you're really trying to get a sneaky candle in that you've responded too late to, you shouldn't need to ship on ascent. The game is basically tuned so that you should jump then whip - think of the jump's momentum as the driving force behind the throw of the whip And regarding another character... this is very much a possibility. We'll see in the next update Rollobobo Well-Known Member Feb 22, 2011 126 0 0 Takeshi's Castle #20 Rollobobo, Oct 3, 2014 Fantastic game. First thing I noticed was the enchanting 8-bit music. It really pulls you in. I am excited for the potential of more music being added as well as new levels. I have played quite a bit of "runner" games and I can honestly say this feels fresh and quite good. I like the ode to Castlevania a bit with this too. I can see the appeal to "retro" gamers and this is definitely a game all iOS users should check out. Very exciting to see updates and potentially whats next from the creator. Well done!!
