StepwisePilot Member Jan 13, 2013 21 0 1 Canada #6 StepwisePilot, Oct 2, 2014 I've tried the free version of one of their other games before that was similar to this. The problem I had with it was that there was iaps to buy medals and such. The medals were used to unlock things in the game, such as various factions and campaigns. From what I could tell by looking at the App Store, the paid versions also had these. What I want to know from anyone that may have already bought this is if these version has all those iaps. I'll try to clear a few things up for you. Firstly, we probably didn't do the best job explaining the differences between Strategy and Tactics: WW2 and this version WW2:Sandbox. The original game was mission/scenario based, recreating specific campaigns or moments in WW2 that tipped the balance of the war. There was a premium version which didn't require any unlocking of content, as well as the Free to Play version which was limited to 3 levels of the first campaign and 2 free scenarios. You could then unlock the rest of the campaigns and scenarios with an In App Purchases. You could also use IAP's to buy resources or upgrade technology research if some missions were proving too difficult. WW2: Sandbox. Strategy and Tactics is essentially a standalone title using the Strategy and Tactics game engine but is far more open world and 'sandbox' like in its approach. You can play as 16 countries initially (10+ more coming in an update very soon), there's a much larger map with over 500 unique regions, as well as plenty of save slots so you can play as multiple countries simultaneously. Also coming in the update is the ability to for alliances to break down, revolutions, coups d'etat and civil wars. All of these should add a more realistic and fluid, changeable feel to the course of history you create. Finally in answer to the question about naval units, we're looking at including naval battles in a future update. I'd certainly recommend downloading the F2P version of Strategy and Tactics: WW2 to get an idea of the game mechanics etc. If you like it but don't like being restricted to a fixed campaign or scenario based gameplay then WW2: Sandbox might be more your cup of tea! Hope that helps. HeroCraft Best75 Well-Known Member Nov 3, 2012 493 0 16 #15 Best75, Oct 14, 2014 Cool so what are the 16 countries playable in the game? I can't play more than a few turn yet, but an initial impressions for those on the fence: Each country has about 10+ victory conditions to achieve, some historically plausible, some not so much, making this a fun alternative history experience (I hope). I'll leave more impressions throughout the day when I can. I'm a big paradox games fan and a hardcore strategy gamer, if that helps at all. Edit: played a game to completion (loss lol). Pros: - decent AI, puts up a good fight and doesn't forgive mistakes - scope is large, and fun - in game charts for unit stats - AI turn skip lasts under 6 seconds, not long at all - very good victory goal diversity - alliances are toggled before the start of the game, at the meta level. - varied unit composition, with a stack limit, meaning you can't have a 50 tank death stack Cons: - no way to tell future turn income, resources are displayed in the bottom left dossier at a per turn level. Very hard to plan economy around predicted income levels. - skip AI feature exists, but the map is too large to display at once, and you'll not be able see the AI "moves" if you skip them. No way to visually tell what happens to your own units and how you lost them. Very problematic for new or casual players. Won't understand how or why losses happen. - alliances are fixed, but there seems to be some kind of unexplained classification system aside from allied/neutral/war. Not sure what to make of this. To the players: if you're on the fence, pick up the free version of their other WW2 game, and if you like the system, this one's deff worth it. To the developers: is there any way to separate the AI skipped turns by country? For instance, player finishes turn, pushes end turn button, AI 1 starts turn, player skips AI 1 turn, but can review map before triggering AI 2 turn? As it stands, it's impractical to watch all the moves, especially for countries that pose no immediate threat. Alternatively, could the game automatically be set to show battles that involve player armies? That would also fix the problem for scenarios where the player has several unit stacks spread across the map. An even easier alternative would be to create a speed slider or setting for the AI turn animation. I imagine this would take significantly less coding. Love the game, worth the 10 bucks, but it has the potential to scare away casual players because of the lack of readily available information regarding the player's own forces and what happens to them. In the course of these events, some countries can be annexed by other states, with all troops switching allegiance as well! + Changing Coalitions In certain circumstances, countries can now sever military alliances and form new ones.
