I give it half a star. Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #3 Astirian, Aug 14, 2014 Sorry, it's my first attempt at a game. I'm planning to flesh it out as time permits. FrehleyzComet Well-Known Member Apr 25, 2013 89 0 0 Foreman Pennsylvania #4 FrehleyzComet, Aug 14, 2014 It has potential, but it definitely needs more variety and substance. Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #5 Astirian, Aug 15, 2014 Thanks, I think I might pull it for now and re-release later with more content. I thought it would do for now as a light distraction or whatever but it's not really my final vision for it. FrehleyzComet Well-Known Member Apr 25, 2013 89 0 0 Foreman Pennsylvania #6 FrehleyzComet, Aug 15, 2014 I think that would be a good idea. I like what you have, but it just needs more. It'd be sweet if there was a story involved with varying missions. Ability to upgrade your bow. Give it that RPG edge that makes games more fun. I'd also like to see a paid option in the game that would eliminate the hideous banner ad ats at the top of the screen. Nostalgia Forest #8 Astirian, Aug 15, 2014 Thanks man, you've made me feel a little better about my first endeavor! It's also like you read my To Do list too! My #1 enemy is time, I'm doing everything on this part-time. Anyway, I'm gonna have little Goblin dudes to shoot at soon hopefully, I'll see if I can prototype some gameplay this weekend. I also want to add different types of enemies and power-ups. I may also highlight the wind flag at the start 'cause everyone is totally missing that wind mechanic. FrehleyzComet Well-Known Member Apr 25, 2013 89 0 0 Foreman Pennsylvania #10 FrehleyzComet, Aug 15, 2014 Sounds awesome. Enemies and other targets are a good idea. Changing the scenery would be cool too. Not sure how much time and effort that would take, but I think it would make the experience more robust. Highlighting the wind would also be a good idea. I had no clue about it until I noticed it just now watching the above video. FrehleyzComet Well-Known Member Apr 25, 2013 89 0 0 Foreman Pennsylvania #11 FrehleyzComet, Aug 15, 2014 I totally just tried your game out again, and improved my score to 505 because of understanding the wind! Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #12 Astirian, Aug 15, 2014 Haha, that's great! I was sort of going for obscure old school 90's design with that one but I've had to explain it in person to family and friends etc... So definitely will be highlighting it in the next release. The scenery will take a while but I think you're spot on. I had this long term idea about progressing into the forest and potentially ending up at a dragon. The idea is to have the head moving around and potentially an ice arrow PowerUp or some such. FrehleyzComet Well-Known Member Apr 25, 2013 89 0 0 Foreman Pennsylvania #13 FrehleyzComet, Aug 15, 2014 That sounds cool. I like where you're going with it. Keep up the good work and it'll be done before you know it! # Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #14 Astirian, Sep 26, 2014 1.1.0 is out! Hey guys! I'm very excited today, I just released 1.1.0! It's my first pass at the goblin scenario, let me know what you think! It's still early days, for the next release I'll have the ad removal option activated (just fiddling around with tax forms at the moment) and GameCenter integration (which is already in the test build). You'll also be able to skip the intro sequences! Next up is different goblins to shoot at, bow and archer upgrades as well as power-ups and after that, new stages and some basic plot elements. Hopefully the experience is a getting bit more robust with each release. Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #15 Astirian, Nov 2, 2014 And 1.1.1 is out! 1.1.1 Fixes: - Game is now a bit easier! - New, slightly dumber blue goblins! Compete globally! - Added Twitter and Facebook buttons. - If you get 3 bulls-eyes in a row, you get an extra arrow! - Intros are now skippable. - Added a retry button. - Added optional In-App Purchase to remove the ads. Other Fixes: - Game now levels up properly. - Fixed OK buttons. - Made the pause button activation area bigger. - Tidied up Goblin Scene scoreboard. - Added a counter. It brings me back to the times when I got my first console as a kid like 20 years ago or something. I agree with others that an RPG edge would really improve the gameplay but, hey, I would pick shooting a bow over chucking angry birds over my tablet screen. But that's just me... I'm starting to get some more positive reviews now so I might just stick with it and get an upgrade shop up next (that one's gonna take a while!). Defender of the Wood is ad-free forever if you download/upgrade and play today. Have fun please and keep your arms inside the ride at all times. CygnetSeven Well-Known Member Feb 6, 2010 7,596 33 48 #19 CygnetSeven, Feb 23, 2015 Thanks for bumping the thread, never heard of it before. I got to try it out and it's a lot of fun. Mechanics work well. I got 19 goblins on my second run. Would love to see a Game Center effect. Like if my friend Joe's high score is 15, then the 15th goblin is named Joe. Power ups a that would be fun to. Thanks for a fun distraction. Astirian Member Aug 14, 2014 18 0 0 Purveyor of Shoddy Games. Nostalgia Forest #20 Astirian, Sep 13, 2015 Cheers! Thanks CygnetSeven! Only just saw your post. I like that GameCenter idea a lot! In fact, I just released an update with extra levels and a massive shop with upgrades etc... Took way longer than I'd first anticipated. Would LOVE to be able to do this full-time. Anyhoo, there's a map screen and some new enemies to fight too, hope you like the update!
