BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #6 BazookaTime, Aug 7, 2014 I grabbed this as I have enjoyed some of their other games. The gameplay is simple but enjoyable. What you see in the screenshots is what you get, nothing weird, nothing but sand. Every time I thought I figured out what the goal was (18 holes) the game just keeps going. I am on hole 43 and my shot total is just over 100. I am starting to think that the game doesn't end because there is no way to go back to the main menu. Easily worth a dollar for me. Edit...Rich you know me well. rIcHrAnDoM Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Nov 17, 2008 7,936 30 38 Steelworker/Welder Indiana, USA #7 rIcHrAnDoM, Aug 7, 2014 Thanks for the rundown Paul. BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #8 BazookaTime, Aug 7, 2014 I have played 101 holes and am sitting in the mid 300's for shots. I have to admit I am not sure what the goal is or if there even is one. I really like the simplicity of the game and the brown backdrop works but a touch of color or addition to the environment would be nice. I kept thinking I would see a cactus, bones, animal or traveler but nothing. A game just like this with some encounters, even if just visual would be great. CygnetSeven Well-Known Member Feb 6, 2010 7,596 33 48 #9 CygnetSeven, Aug 7, 2014 Does this play much like Super Stickman? (sorry but the comparison was going to come up eventually) BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #10 BazookaTime, Aug 7, 2014 In Desert Golfing you just touch anywhere on the screen and a white arrow appears, pullback for power release. So, the controls are super easy and it allows for quick gameplay. Super Stickman is the full package of golf games IMO, so in that regards Desert Golfing is a very bare bones, no thrills experience in comparison. In DG, there are no special shots, no special anything really. Having said that, it is fun to play and I keep playing it. I would say if you like these types of golf games and you find yourself with a $1 that you don't know what to do with, you could do worse. putermcgee Well-Known Member Jun 4, 2010 619 2 18 Seattle #11 putermcgee, Aug 8, 2014 I like the developer's other games, so I got this right away. There's no clear goal, which makes me wonder why there's even a score, or why the holes are numbered. It feels more like he/they wanted to play with the shot mechanic (I'd expect this in a pool game), and then lost interest before implementing it in a real game. If you want an endless golfer with the occasional maddening hole, it's an easy dollar. No Brakes Valet and RSSS are classics that I still play, and Enviro-Bear is in a weird/wonderful class of its own. The thing is, I like Desert Golfing and with a few touchs and or goals I think it could have been a fantastic game. pinOi32 Well-Known Member Apr 24, 2014 536 0 0 #14 pinOi32, Aug 9, 2014 If you're thinking about getting this, get Super Stickman Golf 2 instead. The latter is also free (and isn't bland, lol). wigzisonfire Well-Known Member Dec 24, 2012 392 0 0 Art Director London #15 wigzisonfire, Aug 9, 2014 You just made the dev smile. Read the previously mentioned article. He created this game for the exact point you just made. Sick of all the money syphoning bells and whistles that games feel they must use to stand out in an over saturated marketplace, he aimed to make a game that is so bland it is maddening. It's more of an art/statement piece than anything. Showing that ignoring to be drawn on creating frills to stand out he opts to do the opposite and try his best to not stand out. The amusing irony of it all (and I think the point he wanted to make) is that in doing such a thing, his game is actually massively standing out. BazookaTime Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2009 5,340 1 36 Kansas http://www.paulmcraelind.com #16 BazookaTime, Aug 9, 2014 I don't think so. He could have made this much more bland. If he was going for bland why have scoring, details like what hole you are on and GameCenter? Again, I like this game but it feels unfinished. slamraman Well-Known Member Patreon Gold Aug 27, 2011 2,511 8 38 #17 slamraman, Aug 10, 2014 I picked this up as I saw Guise mention it in the GoTW thread. It made me laugh when it went past 18 holes and now I'm wondering if it will ever end. I have a feeling that that may be the point. Well worth the entrance fee. The exit fee is unfortunately slightly higher. stolenlogic Active Member Sep 25, 2013 36 0 0 #18 stolenlogic, Aug 10, 2014 Holy shit that looks ridiculously simple to make. Like a "do it yourself" game maker.
