I'm the developer of A Few Billion Square Tiles. It started as a fun little side project, but feedback has been so good that it's become my main focus in the last couple months. The game was soft-launched in France a month ago and in Europe a week after. It's now available worldwide, and I can't wait to see how its virtual world will evolve now that everybody can play it! A few fun stats: 12.5 million tiles have been found as of today Almost 500 000 are now discovered everyday Most players in the top 30 have played more than 50 hours already Quite a few players have even played more than 150 hours The world inside the game is infinite, and it's really fun to watch it grow. Here's a small gif animation I made from the last 2 weeks, which shows the center of the world: To give you a sense of scale: each pixel in this animation actually represents a square of 32*32 tiles in the game, in other words there's really 1024 tiles per pixel! It's quite fun to see the different strategies, like the ones building their islands and being slowly swallowed, or the one at the top going straight up to escape the crowd (this might actually be a good strategy: he's currently number one in the leaderboards!) Anyway, let me know if you have any question, and I hope you will have as much fun playing as I had developing it mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #3 mr_bez, Jul 9, 2014 This is quite nice. It's a bit like Curiosity, but with actual gameplay and (so far) no trouble connecting. I've added a Touch Arcade clan (two words) if anyone else feels like playing. lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #4 lif, Jul 9, 2014 Cool idea! I joined the clan, which moved it into the top 10 since I have so many tiles. We probably won't stay there very long without help from others though -> we need more volunteers mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #5 mr_bez, Jul 9, 2014 Thought it seemed quite high in the rankings for a clan with 3 members! lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #6 lif, Jul 9, 2014 Haha yes, I have a bit more than 150 000 tiles, thanks to many hours of testing! There's a bit of everything in the top clans: the first one has 70 players inside, probably because it attracts lots of new players with little empires, but the 5th one only has 3 *very* active players! Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #7 Royce, Jul 9, 2014 This looks pretty cool. I'll definitely download it and join the clan later tonight. mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #8 mr_bez, Jul 9, 2014 What exactly is the point of wipers other than for griefing? It's quite annoying when someone starts wiping an area you're working on, but even more annoying that they reset what's underneath. I just had a run ended because someone wiped the mine I was marking as I marked it, and it was converted to a blank tile so I got an error. lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #9 lif, Jul 9, 2014 Are you sure the guy used a wiper and didn't just make a mistake? Wipers are usually used by people with a bit of OCD (like me ) when they want to connect two of their territories or when they want to neatly arrange its shape. I've also used them to draw stuff, as it's a pretty nice way to draw big pixel art! mr_bez Well-Known Member Dec 20, 2012 2,053 3 38 #10 mr_bez, Jul 10, 2014 Yeah, coulda been a mistake. I definitely had one guy wiping his way through an area I was clearing earlier, but that was probably someone else. I was thinking that art could be difficult as you never know where mines/empty spaces will appear, so that makes aense. lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #11 lif, Jul 10, 2014 I considered locking the randomised area for a few seconds after somebody make a mistake, but then it made fighting with neighbours much less fun. The risk you take by going head to head is really part of the fun. Of course the downside is that if somebody wants to mess with you, he can. But there will always be this kind of things in an online game. At least the word is big enough that you can temporarily walk away and return when the guy is bored! lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #12 lif, Jul 10, 2014 Last edited: Jul 10, 2014 I also wrote a small web site where you can browse the world on your computer: http://afewbillion.com Just click somewhere on the blue to see who owns this part of the land, along with his/her whole empire. Pretty convenient when you found a cool or funny spot, like those two: How long did it take this guy to write this?Is that a bear??? collasta Well-Known Member Mar 16, 2014 88 0 6 #13 collasta, Jul 10, 2014 Having fun so far, not really sure what to do. I ignored the warning and ended up somewhere I couldn't do much and got lost. I'm somewhere now building off someone's abandoned area. So alone. What is our capital? Biggest section we've done? While empire is our running total? lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #14 lif, Jul 10, 2014 Looks like you are south west of the main continent: http://afewbillion.com/?un=Collasta If you scroll up to the right you will quickly meet a first big island, then another one, and then finally the south of the main land. Empire is indeed the running total of discovered tiles. It can go down when you make mistakes or if somebody uses wipers on you. But capital refers to your empire's financial assets: it's the amount of yellow tiles that you found. It will go down if you spend those to buy Sonars and Wipers. mzi11a New Member Jul 10, 2014 1 0 0 #15 mzi11a, Jul 10, 2014 Anyone looking for a clan? Right now if you know their username the best way to find them is to use the search field in the web map. You can also ask them to send you their location from the bookmark manager, but then you need their help. Sorry about that lif Well-Known Member Oct 8, 2012 136 0 16 Developer Paris http://galta-apps.com/ #19 lif, Jul 10, 2014 Thanks sweetdiss! I think back at the time when you created it I didn't allow spaces in clan names. Do you want me to move you and the members of your clan to the "Touch Arcade" clan that mr_bez created yesterday? The two combined will make quite a power house! thesinmaster Well-Known Member Aug 27, 2013 80 0 0 #20 thesinmaster, Jul 10, 2014 Cant hold off myself Finished battery twice already...
