The art looks fantastic though I'm not a fan of them making the spaces so big and the units so small. This might be painful for the eyes on an iphone. PeteOzzy Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2013 4,596 3 0 Norwich, England #3 PeteOzzy, May 27, 2014 Same, I'm not entirely sure how this will play - it almost looks like a tabletop wargame such as Warhammer, which would be very interesting to me. But then I'm thrown by the Tower Defence-esque lane running through the SRPG grids. Either way, I absolutely love the art; combine that with the comedy and the developer's pedigree and it looks like a great way to spend a few pounds! You have to feel for them though; I hope they didn't rush this out to beat Battleheart Legacy only for it to come out a day early lol. dreadnok Well-Known Member Jun 8, 2011 4,157 7 38 I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum I'm ou #4 dreadnok, May 27, 2014 Hopefully it plays like RavenMark cause I'm down for more of that Tebius Well-Known Member Sep 29, 2011 347 0 0 Creative Lead//Witching Hour Studios http://www.witching-hour.net #5 Tebius, May 27, 2014 We didn't even know Battlehearts was out soon! To hint at some of the features or polish we might expect from Romans in the Carpet!, albeit probably in a faaaar more casual form (and without the storytelling, no?), the Ravenmark games both features a combination of very complex, deeply tactical mechanics, and an extremely fleshed-out world and intricate meta-narrative (with a huge in-game database of both stories and stats, a complementary wiki of campaign world information, and lots of narrative pieces written by the design team). Where The Saga focused on single player storytelling and perfectly balanced tactical challenges, Mercenaries instead offered segmented play and shorter stories, a combination of off- and online, a very active and jovial multiplayer community and lots of clever communal and competitive features, and horisontal progression that somehow meshed perfectly with competitive online play, without ruining balance. My guess is that this is Witching Hour's foray into casual turn-base wargaming and easily accessible online play. With the previous titles in mind (that you all really should try as well, which was kinda part of the purpose of my over-expositional history piece above ), all the extreme polish Witching Hour throws at their products, and their extremely solid grasp of board and wargame mechanics, this could well be a new Outwitters or Hero Academy. Tbh, this is a paid game and usually even most online-only games on the appstore are freemium because they want you to buy something constantly. I would guess your game is not built around that. I would at least hope you reconsider. Since it has single player and multiplayer, you should only need the online bit for multiplayer. That's what always makes sense to me. In a way, it's almost like trying to stop people using a Gameshark by forcing them all the plug their PS2s into the Internet to play games. PS2's and other systems around that time were great because of their portability. Imagine if you had to plug those into the Internet no matter what game you played. Past that, there's no other nefarious reason why it requires a connection. jsrco Well-Known Member Patreon Silver Oct 15, 2009 2,134 1 38 Coordinator Seattle https://www.Fatthunder.com #17 jsrco, May 27, 2014 That is also one of the main reasons I don't play Mercs as much though. Sometimes I just have crap connections and it takes forever to get moves across. Sucks for the single player mode. Romans is based on the Mercs engine, where the single player content can affect the multiplayer balance, so for the sake of fairness for all players, we kept all the sensitive bits on the server.
