PeteOzzy Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2013 4,596 3 0 Norwich, England #4 PeteOzzy, Apr 1, 2014 It's actually neither - you pick up any tile you want and drop it anywhere to make a match of three or more. It's very simple to play but the game itself looks to be quite enjoyable so far. It's very odd that Backflip are soft launching several games at once in different regions but the three I've played have all been pretty good, so I'm not complaining! redribbon Well-Known Member Jun 11, 2010 2,799 53 48 entepreanur, programmer #5 redribbon, Apr 1, 2014 Last edited: Apr 1, 2014 the gameplay: ---deleted--- Sanuku Well-Known Member Jun 14, 2009 11,954 4 38 Austria http://www.touchgameplay.com #6 Sanuku, Apr 1, 2014 Game Impressions Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Zeillusion Well-Known Member Sep 30, 2013 1,789 2 38 #7 Zeillusion, Aug 14, 2014 Pretty neat. Although it's a match - 3 type game. It's different than others. Only played a few matches but Im enjoying it! ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,003 113 #8 ste86uk, Aug 14, 2014 Hasn't this been out a while already? Wizard_Mike Well-Known Member Mar 17, 2011 1,294 0 36 Texas #9 Wizard_Mike, Aug 14, 2014 This is pretty good so far. There's no energy, but your hit points don't automatically refill after each match and you can spend coins (earned through play) to refill it between stages or just wait. This isn't too bad of a setup, though, as you get a healing spell during the tutorial that you can use during play. Some of the lame iap stuff is there, of course, like paying $0.99 to revive if you die in combat (but you still get exp and stuff if you decide to stay dead). There is a 20 day login bonus of a free weapon, but if you don't feel like waiting you can just buy it for $79.99 ( L O L !!! ). But so far the game seems pretty friendly to free players. None of the iap I've come across seems necessary at all. Who knows if, or what kind of, paywalls will pop up as one gets further in, so we'll just have to see. As for the game play itself, it's pretty cool. It's a match three, kind of puzzle quest-ish in the spell casting, and nice animations to everything. Liking it so far. Nekku Well-Known Member May 31, 2013 1,542 7 38 #10 Nekku, Aug 14, 2014 109 (that's the highest IAP price tag I've ever seen!) for one single item while the other ones are around 70 each. Ridiculous! Didn't expected this kind of an cash grab from Backflip Studios. Besides that, the game itself feels very polished. While some of the IAP's are indeed very expensive, the game is still awesome. There is no stamina bar which means you can play endlessly if you do it right and recharge your health with gold (in-game currency) or by casting the heal spell in an battle. You can equip runes which providing different spells which you can cast. Everytime you match 3 or more orbs your "spell pool" fills up for each spell. Heal needs water Orbs to be matched. This pool carries over, so you dont have to fill it up from zero every battle. By grinding low level mobs, you can fill up your health in no time or just pay gold which you will also get by grinding. You can also level up runes so they will give you a higher amount of HP or dish out more damage depending on the spell. Random loot is a big plus in this game for me. After each fight a new item will be added to the shop which you can buy or not. After a couple of matches it will be gone so a new item can be added to the shop. It's kinda rotating (dont know how to explain in english AAAARGH). Enemies are also randomized which means, there is a limited pool of enemies from which your actual enemy will be chosen as soon as you enter the map. Last but not least, You will get an bonus for every Day you log in the game. After 20 days you can choose between 5 different swords which you will get. This bonus is worth 69.99. For me, Spellfall is the 2nd best Match-3 game available for iOS. (There cant be anything better than P&D, hah). I am already rly addicted to it. This game will definitely stay longer on my device. Very nice presentation. Unique match 3 in that you can pick up any tile and place it anywhere on the board, as Pete mentioned. Full of RPG elements which I really like in these types of games. Weapons, spells, potions, loot, and leveling up to name a few. Your character is on the left side with health bar at the top left, and enemies are on the right side with their health bar on the top right side. Finished the first set of levels but I'll have to spend more time with it to get a full idea of the ins and outs. I like what I see so far. The one thing that I don't get, and have never seen before is that there is Game Center integration, but no leaderboards OR achievements. Weird... For some players it's even more than that, it's life. Sure, you can play it as an casual gamer but that wont get you very far and you will hit a wall sooner or later. You will actually have to search the internet for tips, tactics, teams, dungeon mechanics, uevo's, etc.. There is so much information about this game. It looks like there isn't much going on, but in its heart it's an incredible deep game. Besides that, the community is awesome. There isn't such a big, helpfull and kind community (especially reddit and pdx) in any other match 3 game or at least not one that I'm aware of. So, now back to topic. I've played so many match3 games, almost all of them and Spellfall really hits the nail for being an intuitive, polished and really fun experience which brings some new elements to the match3 genre as well as providing the core elements. And it does that very well. At the end, it also doesnt limit your playtime with stamina so you can play it as long as you wish, which is the best part in this game imo. But since you're always able to play in the lower stages and build up your mana again, i'm going for a genious game. Unfortunately there is no coin doubler (even better a tripler, since it gets more and more expensive), so no money is going into consumables. Think about it, Backflip, if you read this.
