It's a Heroes of Might and Magic style combat game with hexagonal turn based battles and stacked units, with more linear world exploration (set paths, occassional branching). There's a resource (gold) management component forcing your to decide how to customize your army - add units, buy abilities, diversity unit types. Your "hero" has a series of unlockable special attacks, buffs, etc that can be used occassionally to turn the tide of battle and can be equipt with weapons/armor that alter stats. With linear world exploration and rewards from combat the game can feel mildly grindy at times but once you beat a foe they disappear so that keeps difficulty balance in check; losing battles rewards partial gold. Winning battles rewards gold but reduces payout by damage incurred (healing costs). Eventually you amass a large enough army you have to decide which unis to play or bench (up to 5). I enjoyed Braveland, it's simplified in some ways but a good mix of accessible casual play with traditional hexagon bashing. I'm surprised we haven't seen anything like Braveland (other than Palm Kingdoms, which is open world) yet. The art design is cute but generic and script is playful. Braveland is worth a download. kenken11 Well-Known Member Sep 29, 2012 1,808 5 38 #3 kenken11, Mar 16, 2014 Sure will give this a download as soon it's up in the store! dhgamer Well-Known Member Dec 25, 2008 364 0 16 New York #4 dhgamer, Mar 16, 2014 Looks like my kinda game. I'm guessing not since it's not a free game. And if you did beta, how long does this game last? I always like a good length (and even replayability) for my games. First impressions: The graphics are sweet. They are really polished, battlehearts-kindom-rush-ish. The sounds are good too. I enjoy the map music quite a bit. Gameplay wise for now seems simple enough (I'm playing on hard). There is a hex based field where you move your units, each one represents a kind of warrior, and there's a number representing the quantity. So, for example, if you move you warrior unit, you will move ALL of them at the same time to the same spot and attack the same enemy. (it's like war games like Panzer Corps, Drive on Moscow, Battle of the Bulge etc.) When you get money, you can hire more people for your army. There's no micromanagement of their equipment (at least until now). One thing that I don't get is the "hero" does not actually participate on the battles, which is kinda weird since he is the one responsible for rallying people to develop the story (not spoiling anything ) Also, the hero is the only one who can equip stuff, but I didn't have the chance to explore much this area of the game yet. One thing I'm afraid is the replay value. It doesn't seem to exist. The game is quite linear and you can't repeat any battle at all. Not sure if this is good or bad yet. Overall is a nice little game. I'm not sure how long it is, but I think it's worth just because the artwork and the music alone. And there is no IAP too for those who dread them. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #15 L.Lawliet, Mar 17, 2014 Can't replay battles? Now that's pretty lame... That definitely ruins replayability. But I guess if the rest is good.... However I'd only be okay with no battle replays if the game was pretty long so I'm hoping that's the case. bigjack66 Well-Known Member Aug 5, 2013 664 0 0 #16 bigjack66, Mar 17, 2014 Nooo! jgainsbrugh Well-Known Member Aug 8, 2013 116 0 0 #17 jgainsbrugh, Mar 17, 2014 I was also a beta tester on this one. For a while I was compulsovely playing Braveland and it's a fair compromise between strategy and casual play. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
