Fortunately, it’s fantastic.” - Indie Game Reviewer Card City Nights is an adventure through a city filled with card-nuts and lunatics. Battle for the 8 legendary cards to enter the biggest competition this city has seen yet. Card City Nights is not a traditional card-trading game. PeteOzzy Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2013 4,596 3 0 Norwich, England #5 PeteOzzy, Feb 27, 2014 The fact that the review mentions the 1997 PC MtG game alone makes it worth reading. That game was incredible, going to have to find some way to play that now! OT: double dipped just to support a dev making great games, will probably play through it again anyway so definitely worth it! oooooomonkey Well-Known Member Jan 15, 2011 6,307 0 0 Forge World #6 oooooomonkey, Feb 27, 2014 Right well I've only played three matches so far far but this looks pretty cool, I'll try to explain. Your playing field is a 3x3 grid and you have to place cards from your hand into the grid to make combos of 3 usually unless it's a special card, now each card has little arrows on it and that's what you have to match up to make the combos, then you choose to either attack your opponents life points or one of their cards, There's 4 different types of card, attack, defence, health and neutral. You buy and win booster packs of cards to make your deck, which has a limit between 25 and 40 cards. Each turn one of you goes first (decided by a coin toss) then you take turns placing one card and drawing a new card making combos and attacking each other until one of you has no life points. For 69p this is a no brainer if you like card games. It Has my recommendation. Just like a surprise out of nowhere a cool card game. Battles seem nice and fast so far to, so it's not a game you have to sit and figure out for hours. (I did go into the options and turn battle animations up to x2 to make things a little quicker) currymutton Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2008 4,430 1 0 #7 currymutton, Feb 27, 2014 Thanks for the impression. Actually it is not "out of nowhere". Android version has been out for some time, Both IOS Board Games blog and Pocket Tactics mention this earlier. (I like them both but I do like card and dice based games) tops2 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2011 2,083 56 48 #12 tops2, Feb 27, 2014 Wow..fun game. I haven't picked up a game at "launch" in a long time...but the charm of this game had me biting. Seems like I can play this casually, but it looks like it can be deep with the number of cards out there. Between Mother 3, Calculords and City Card Nights...looks like I have enough games to keep me busy for a while. Pazaak is a numbers game, like Blackjack. The Triple Triad comparison is spot on, though, in that it has arrows and position on the board is important. But instead of trying to capture opponents cards, this game mixes the arrow gameplay with "match 3" style puzzling, so you have to arrange your own cards in certain ways to enact their effects. Pretty clever. I also got this on Steam but will probably double dip so I can have this entertaining game on the go. Jrec15 Well-Known Member Jun 3, 2013 180 0 0 #15 Jrec15, Feb 27, 2014 Just picked this up, on sale for $.99 with no IAP was too good to resist. The success on other platforms was good reassurance. Calculords got me in a CCG groove so will see if this holds up. m44 Well-Known Member Feb 16, 2013 372 0 0 #16 m44, Feb 27, 2014 Same here. Couldn't resist the launch price of a dollar. I just unlocked the first legendary card, and I'm enjoying the game so far. . . There's been a bunch of good card games lately. Jrec15 Well-Known Member Jun 3, 2013 180 0 0 #17 Jrec15, Feb 27, 2014 I'm enjoying the game as well! The strategy is very interesting, I'm sure the mechanic is probably in other card games but I have never tried it before. Have two questions so far: What does rotating a card do? Some cards rotate other cards. But i see no explanation of what this does in the tutorial or in the help section. What does gold do? I have yet to find a shop of any kind (maybe that appears later?). Is there a way to buy booster packs with it? m44 Well-Known Member Feb 16, 2013 372 0 0 #18 m44, Feb 27, 2014 The rotate ability turns the cards(s) so the connection points will change. The gold is used for buying cards and to buy grid "skins" (stuff like a graffiti design.) miroa Well-Known Member May 22, 2013 518 0 0 #19 miroa, Feb 27, 2014 Here is my feedback Card City Nigths runs like a charm on my iPhone 4. It takes only 263mb installed, which is ok. The tutorial is pretty straight forwards and if you are not sure, you can go into the help section. The music is great and not annoying like some games where I turn the music off. The art is also well done and might seem childish, but I think it goes with the entire game. That was my prelude. You control a character (you can choose the name and the avatar) that just moved in into the city. First minutes, your are thrown into a card battle that teaches you how the game works. After, you have the opportunity to travel on a map from place to place, meet people, talk with them, and have a card battle with them. I love this game totally. If you are not good at playin card games, don't worry. The rules are simple. The game is easy to play, and yet gives room to strategy. I believe that casual players as well as the pro ones will enjoy this game. I recommend it. Buy it, especially for a buck. No IAP, no Ads, and it seems that the developer will add more contents in the future. Go for it. borb86 Well-Known Member Nov 9, 2012 53 0 6 #20 borb86, Feb 27, 2014 So it's basically the card game from final fantasy IX? Take my money. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
