It was quite an interesting experience, and I am glad to be able to help making the Nightmare mode living up to its name. I can’t wait to hear people suffer.
I'm keen to hear how more folks are getting on with nightmare. I wonder if anybody else has managed to complete the Earth defence platform yet
Congratulations Jelt, asteroid is one of the tougher nightmare maps. How many goes did it take you in the end? And what turrets did you put around the command centre?
Plenty of goes... at least 10 times, but probably more tbh. Most of it is learning what waves come when after dying. Sometimes there's luck too, like if a mega monster comes from the wrong place at the wrong time. So this map was interesting. This was the first map that really showed me the power of gatling gun. I had three gatling guns around the base (including one from the get go behind the base), and one rocket launcher for the flyers. The problem with machine gun is, it's really nerfed until you get to gatling gun or rocket launcher, so I used plasma until I had enough cash, then sold the plasma and insta-bought a gatling gun (three upgrades). What helped a lot as well was JStorm's tactic of putting plasmas earlier in the map to soften enemies.
The gatling gun got a fairly big buff this update, especially with the new research upgrades as it was pretty underpowered when compared to the rocket pods upgrade. It should be even more noticeable when activating it's charged attack. Let me know how you get on with the later maps.
I'm stuck at the very next map. What's the best way to get rid of those hoardes? Flamethrower has too small radius; machine gun is too nerfed at early levels; plasma doesn't do enough area damage; and Artillery is too slow! I'm lost!
You kinda have to use the wall, and all of the abilities until you get the flamethrower leveled up, as well as other turrets.
Just completed Mars!! Had 1% health left, but a win is a win. The trick was to get as many slots up as possible as quickly as possible- including the paid ones. Now on to the next nightmare...
