But I dream about being able to work again. USA #2 Gamer1st, Oct 16, 2013 Great entry to the Picross game genre. Having the partly completed image in the corner of the screen on an easel helps make sense of the blocky images. I've seen more than a few Picross games get too complicated in their menu and controls and it just makes them tedious to play. That's not an issue here, if you like this type of game you'll love this version, and if you've never played a Picross game before do yourself a favor and pick this up. Back2funk Well-Known Member Mar 3, 2010 316 0 16 England #3 Back2funk, Oct 16, 2013 I was given a promo code for the game yesterday. I must say, after playing through all the free puzzles, I am extremely impressed. I've played a few gridler type games on iOS before but none of them have ever grabbed me or stayed I'm my device longer than a day or two. This game, however, has so much character and polish that it oozes quality. Even the menu is something to behold! The tutorial is quick and to the point but ensures you know exactly what you are doing before you are let loose on the rest of the game. It will not annoy people who already know how to play yet it is comprehensive enough to get people new to gridler up to speed. The difficulty seems to ramp up nicely from then on. Unlike most other gridler apps, it does not hang around on 5x5 grids for too long. I will definitely be purchasing all other rooms as soon as this is officially released in the UK. bigukdaz Active Member Jun 30, 2012 30 0 0 #4 bigukdaz, Oct 16, 2013 My favourite type of puzzle game can't wait to try this in the UK New England Gamer Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Jul 30, 2009 6,143 1 0 #5 New England Gamer, Oct 16, 2013 I have been lucky to be playing this for about a week now and I can highly recommend this picross type game. If you are familiar with the paper and pencil games that are prevalent in the puzzle books then I don't have to go into the mechanics of what you do. It's how you do it that makes it so much fun anyway! You are tasked with discovering the paintings. Each puzzle has a theme and the combination "clue" in the puzzle title and the numbers along the edges you can discover them with a little bit of brain power. The puzzles are fantastic and executed really well. I have played other picross games on an iPhone and they were just really difficult to navigate and were frustrating. This though is a breeze! You can erase or fill whole rows even so it makes the later puzzles a little easier to complete. It has iCloud sync that works perfectly - been going between devices since I got it and it really is nice that way. If you love picross, are on the fence about picross, or simply want a new challenge -- get Paint it Back! One thing I would like to see maybe is the ability to see the completed paintings a little larger. I can't seem to find that option anywhere! klink ð® Spam Police ð Jul 22, 2013 1,617 0 0 No thank you USA https://twitter.com/BitGamerX #6 klink, Oct 16, 2013 Last edited: Oct 16, 2013 Game Impressions This is an excellent game. I can positively say this is one of the most polished Picross games one can find on iOS. You can definitely see a lot of love has gone into the making of the puzzles. Also, the ideas for the pictures is creative and differentiate themselves from other entries of the genre. All and all, a must buy for puzzle fans, and a lot of room for the dev to add some puzzles later on (hopefully). squashy Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2013 1,997 1 38 *burp* The Garden of Sinners #11 squashy, Oct 16, 2013 Truly a great way to relax in your free time! I have to say that the polish on this game is incredible! The graphics and user interface would not look out of place on a first party Nintendo DS title, they're that good. The pictures are quite original as well, none of those "stock" picross puzzles that you've seen over and over before. The puzzles are played in monochrome, but the finished paintings are in glorious full color. This keeps the game play interface simple as you don't need to constantly change the color of your brush, while being able to present clever, funny and original color pictures when the puzzle is complete. As far as controls go, this is the best picross app I have ever experienced on iOS. I am playing on an iPod Touch 5g and I have only used the "touch" controls, but there is also an option to use a virtual control pad if you prefer that. I personally am having no troubles playing on the iPod's screen, but I imagine playing on an iPad would be even nicer. The zoom controls work very well while playing, I love the fact that the clue numbers are always visible no matter how zoomed in you are. The music and sound effects are pretty good, but will become repetitive rather soon. Luckily the game allows you to listen to your own music while playing, so problem solved. The game play itself is great! You begin the game in the Training Hall, this is the games tutorial. As far as picross tutorials go, this is one of the best. It covers most picross strategies and really tries to discourage guessing, and explains why should never have to guess and why it can seriously mess up your entire puzzle. It does a pretty good job at trying to explain how certain large numbers have overlapping squares that MUST be filled no matter where the number begins on the row or column, but does not delve into more advanced techniques. There are a few more techniques covered in the How To Play section under painting tips, but there are quite a few techniques not discussed. During the "Gallery" levels you have no time limit and no penalties for mistakes (the game does not let you know if you've made mistakes at all) so it is very relaxing to play. You can finish a puzzle at your own pace with out stress. In Pro mode, puzzles that are 20x20 or smaller will be completed on a single grid, puzzles with dimensions larger than 20 squares either horizontally or vertically will be completed in sections and pieced together when you've finished all sections. Puzzles completed in Pro mode will yield 2 medals instead of 1. If you choose to play in Normal mode it will break every puzzle into simple 10x10 grid sections, but you will only receive 1 medal for completion. Once you've acquired 70 medals you will gain access to the "Mystery Masterpiece" mode. A mode that presents you with a random puzzle from the "Gallery" mode, but it does not tell you the name of the puzzle or show you the colored version of the puzzle while you're working on it. This mode offers many new types of medals, such as speed medals for finishing quickly, or medals for not marking spaces with X's or medals for conserving paint. This mode provides most of the achievements in the game. When you download the game for free you have access to the first 3 rooms, the Training Hall and 2 actual puzzle rooms. The Training Hall has 7 puzzles used as tutorials. The first room only has 9 puzzles ranging from 5x5 to 8x8. The second room has 15 puzzles that range from 5x5 to 16x20. These are the first 31 puzzles of the game, the game has a total of 140 puzzles, so for free you get to play about 22% of the game. To unlock the rest of the game, you can either pay $0.99 per room pack to unlock 2-3 rooms each, or pay $2.99 to unlock everything and save $0.97. If you have any interest in picross at all, trust me, you'll definitely want to throw 3 bucks at the dev the second you finish the last free puzzle. My only suggestions would be to echo what others have already said, and request a way to enlarge the finished paintings to really appreciate how wonderfully designed they are. Perhaps when tapping on a completed painting the player should be presented with both a "Paint!" button AND a "View!" button. Where selecting View! would allow players to zoom in on the painting in the same way that zoom works during the puzzles. I also hope that the dev will continue to release new room packs in the future, as I am already dreading when I complete the final puzzle. Bottom line, I highly recommend this game to everyone, whether you're a picross pro or someone who has never even heard of picross you should definitely check out this game for free and see if it wins you over. You really have absolutely nothing to lose. GO. DOWNLOAD. NOW!
