Xeyad Well-Known Member Jan 31, 2012 303 3 18 #18 Xeyad, Oct 2, 2013 Last edited: Oct 3, 2013 Alright, some very first impressions on this game. THE GRAPHICS! Oh my god, the graphics. In the age of RealRacing 3, Asphalt 8, and Infinity Blade 3, this still impressed me a lot. The cars have so much detail, even down to the tires. Damage is really quite realistic too. The tracks and environments look incredible, as even the clouds in the sky move, and rain looks really quite cool! Take a look at the attached photos and let me know what you think. Interior view doesn't look good to be honest, but I think it's unfinished in a way. Exterior view, this looks better than RealRacing 3 to my eyes. The other great thing here is the framerate. Everything you see here is running on an iPad Mini with an A5 chip, and with graphics like this, the game keeps on a VERY SMOOTH framerate and it never shows hiccups or lags. You can really tell Gameloft has put A LOT of effort on the graphics. Big thumbs up! Freemium stuff: You have 2 currencies; coins and dollars. As of this soft launch, the game is really generous and you'll get money quickly and easily. This could change with the official release though. There are no wait times, or damage fixes, but every time you race, it'll show you the "Boosts" menu to upgrade your car via coins and other upgrades with dollars. If you invite your Facebook friends, it'll give you more dollars. As of now, the game doesn't feel freemium at all, except for the occasional ads that pop up in the menus. Car physics: I'm really liking it so far. It's not as arcady as RealRacing 3 in a way, and it doesn't feel stiff as 2K Drive. It's balanced, and it just feels right to me. Front wheel drive cars understeer, and rear-drive cars powerslide at the exit of the corners. It all feels very natural, and very enjoyable. It's not simulation, but each cars feels different from one another, and that what makes racing games fun in my opinion. Of course, with any racing game, I always recommend to turn off the assists. Gameplay: There are few of gameplay modes in the career mode, ranging from classic races to knock out races to king of the hill to 1v1 to overtake short races. Of course, 2k has way more modes, but that game sucks anyways. I hope they'll add more once it arrives internationally. The AI is a little challenging, but they aren't tough if you know your way around a racing game. One thing I noticed is that I'm racing mostly in the exterior view, because a) the exterior graphics look incredible, and b) the steering wheel in the interior view doesn't turn all the way into the direction your turning, so it feels a bit awkward, but exterior driving feels quite good actually. Overall, I'm very satisfied with GT Racing 2. You can tell that Gameloft spent years developing this, and the result is a great racing experience. Lots of variety with cars, great car physics and of course jaw-dropping graphics. They need to fix the interior view for international release, and add more game modes. This is a very impressive game, and other developers should be worried. Very impressed with how much obvious effort and attention to detail has gone in here. @ amusing grace & @ gps, I better see some times coming up for you two out there as well. It'll be very disappointing if not because I'm too used to competing against you two in the racing games and it just wouldn't be the same to have to wait a few weeks to see ye're times. Anyway, one thing worth noting is that a soft launch inevitably involves tweaking and balancing so things can change between now and release so I think I'll hold off on leaving any real impressions for now. But in saying that, so far as things stand, this is extremely solid and probably the new king of racers on iOS. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
