Build airplanes and test them with realistic physics and see how they fly. You can find it on the App Store now or check out the website at http://www.SimplePlanes.com Design your own rocket ships. Blast off into space. Explore the solar system. See if you have what it takes to be a rocket scientist. CREATE Choose and connect parts together to build rocket ships. You can choose from a variety of rocket engines, fuel tanks, and other gizmos. You can even build rovers with powered wheels. You are only limited by your imagination. EXPLORE Blast off from any planet you want. You can fly through the intense atmosphere of Venus, or you can take advantage of the low gravity of Mercury. Whip around the sun and launch yourself out to the far reaches of the solar system. CHALLENGES Several challenges are built into the game so you can see who can go the fastest, fly the farthest, orbit with the least amount of fuel, land on the moon, and so much more. ROCKET SCIENCE Kepler wrote the equations 400 years ago, and SimpleRockets uses those equations to model extremely realistic orbital physics. Players will learn about rocket science and astrodynamics while they are having a blast exploring the solar system. This makes SimpleRockets ideal for the classroom, or as a healthy alternative to the barrage of brainless games available on the App Store. MidianGTX Well-Known Member Jun 16, 2009 3,738 10 38 #4 MidianGTX, Sep 5, 2013 As a bit of background info, this is inspired by Kerbal Space Program and if it even comes close to being as good as that, it's a steal at the price. The Kerbal community seems to have given its blessing to SimpleRockets, which is nice. iphonegamegirl Member Aug 20, 2013 18 0 0 #5 iphonegamegirl, Sep 5, 2013 anyone tried this game out yet? would love to know your review Andre Well-Known Member Apr 11, 2012 3,643 2 38 #6 Andre, Sep 5, 2013 I want your reviews, my friends. Have you ever played it before? oooooomonkey Well-Known Member Jan 15, 2011 6,307 0 0 Forge World #7 oooooomonkey, Sep 5, 2013 Right I'm back, it plays similar to another game I played called space agency, There's a challenge mode where you have tasks of things like get to a certain speed before a certain height or tap ravel a certain distance, also things like landing on planets etc, It starts off (after the tutorial) where you build a space ship out of the parts available to you, plenty of stuff like wheels, landing legs, parachutes, fuel tanks engines etc, Anyway your engine power is the bar on the bottom right of the screen and you drag that with your finger to set your power then press the lighting bolt to start the engine and away you go, after launch that same lightning bolt button is used to activate your secondary things like detaching excess bits or your landing legs. There's only 12 challenge missions so it seems like the main focus is on just experimenting and playing in the sandbox mode. The physics seem cool though which if you'd played any of the devs other games you'd expect. Erm I guess it's one of those games where if you like fiddling around building things its for you, Like I said I've played space agency and it kind of feels like that only a little easier and with less missions. Fallen_Grace Well-Known Member Aug 15, 2012 239 0 0 #8 Fallen_Grace, Sep 5, 2013 Just a couple question guys: -how difficult is it? Kerbal Space Program was nice, but honestly I lacked the patience to study the physics, angles of entry etc. -do you have to directly pilot the rocket as in steer it to the "right" orbit, assume a correct angle etc? Again it was something I found I hadn't the patience for in KSP. weehoo Well-Known Member Apr 12, 2010 491 0 0 the stars #9 weehoo, Sep 5, 2013 No! It is very easy. I've already built a 4 stage rocket and have successfully orbited the moon. You will need to change how the rockets enter the next stage, and there is an easy drag option to do that. Landing on the moon is a chore and requires a lot of practice. You can also change the speed in the game depending on your altitude. ***There is an app in development called "Space Simulator" that is more in tune with "Kerbal Space Program", but it is not available until the end of summer. lena Well-Known Member Mar 26, 2011 1,049 0 36 #10 lena, Sep 7, 2013 Surprised about the low number of comments, so I thought I'd add my own, even though I don't really have anything to add that oooooomonkey hasn't said. It doesn't really feel like a game-game to me (though it can certainly be argued that it is), but just the fact that here I am, building rockets on my couch, is just awesome to me, and for 99 cents, if you're kind of interested in this kind of game, I don't think you can go wrong. The game works perfectly fine on my first-gen iPad too. MicroByte Well-Known Member Dec 8, 2008 1,328 0 36 in a van down by the river... #11 MicroByte, Sep 8, 2013 I freaking love this app! My boys and I have been building all kinds of craziness to launch. It's fun to watch your design flop and literally crash and burn. I got close to landing on the moon, but ended up making my lander be part of the landscape. Going to shoot for mars next. Really, if you have a buck, like tinkering with physics based games and have an interest in space, I'd highly recommend it. Honestly, there's not much of a game, more of just a cool physics app. weehoo Well-Known Member Apr 12, 2010 491 0 0 the stars #12 weehoo, Sep 10, 2013 FOR THE DEVELOPER if they see this! First off. I love this game. Thank you. It needs some things to spice it up a little. Ideas for updates and DLC: 1. Allow us to send multiple stuff into orbit from different planets in the sandbox mode, and keep it there. Saving different "solar system" set-ups that could be downloaded and explored by other users. 2.PLEASE!!!! Allow for space station/star ship construction by launching and connecting different payloads in space. This would add a fun challenge for 2D gameplay. 3. An option to have a computer calculate a pre-determined flight path that instructs you on "when?/how much thrust?/how much time needed?" before you start your burn, to help preserve fuel. 4. More parts for DLC. For example: solar panels, solar-wind sails, refueling station for low-grade thrusters, space shuttle, fantasy warp engines. You know. The usual N.A.S.A. stuff. *** Warheads and weapon systems would be really cool. Maybe even throw in a few alien threats after you build a space station, and then your weaponized satellites could randomly shoot them down. 5. I like the cartoon graphics, but adding a more realistic appearance for the rocket parts like a 2-dimensional KSP would be awesome. SimpleRockets is a great idea you could definitely build on. weehoo Well-Known Member Apr 12, 2010 491 0 0 the stars #13 weehoo, Sep 10, 2013 If you're going to shoot for mars, you've got to make a pretty impressive multiple (10+) stage rocket just to get something into orbit around it. Getting a piece of hardware like that, out of earth's atmosphere, might take a mountain of rockets. Getting small rocket-rovers to the moon's surface has been pretty challenging. Bronxsta Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2012 4,698 6 38 http://indiegameenthusiast.blogspot.com/ #14 Bronxsta, Sep 13, 2013 Any more impressions? Am I mistaken or did the price increase from 0.99? I want to get Kerbal on PC but that's too expensive and this seem like a pretty suitable replacement. Any updates yet or planned? Also I never played this kind of game before. How varied is the gameplay and how does the challenge increase? bluewomble88 Well-Known Member Nov 8, 2009 786 4 18 #15 bluewomble88, Sep 13, 2013 This has taken me by surprise. Simple to understand but hard to perfect. weehoo Well-Known Member Apr 12, 2010 491 0 0 the stars #16 weehoo, Sep 14, 2013 I'm surprised no one has tried this yet. Would love to see parts like stabilizer fins. More missions would be cool too. Also would be nice to be able to replay the tutorial missions (is there? I might be missing it) Anyway, awesome game bluewomble88 Well-Known Member Nov 8, 2009 786 4 18 #19 bluewomble88, Nov 25, 2013 Free now. Absolutely no excuse. Get it. Hoot3000 Well-Known Member Aug 4, 2012 75 0 6 #20 Hoot3000, Jan 4, 2014 Awesome game!! I love kerbal and this is way easier. The only problem I have is while in orbit. When I burn to change orbits sometimes my rockets start spinning out of contol. Any one know why. I try to burn slowly till the orange marker is steady in the correct direction then it starts getting crazy lol. I can successfully crash in to the moon like in kerbal lol. Never have enough full to land lol Cross feed fuel would be awesome! And maybe some sort of heading on the "nav ball". Maybe when u hold it it gives degrees!
