Phelps is very well known around here (Baltimore). I was very happy to see a boy with a lot of energy from the city where I grew up in become the most decorated Olympian. He was on 60 Minutes. Apparently he stored all 8 of his previous Olympic medals in a drawer and hadn't taken them out since he had won them
That's not really the impressive part considering times for the 100M in high school varsity races average 11 seconds or so. Yeah, that's right, the difference between the world record and average time for varsity high-schoolers is under two seconds. That's 9 meters a second. Almost as impressive for just 16-18 year olds? In college, if you want to be on varsity for the 100M, you better be running it in under 11 seconds. Did you know people that run marathons professionally keep a 4:45/mile pace for 26.2 miles? Imagine running that distance in 5-10 minutes over 2 hours. Most people will never be able to run even one mile that fast in their lifetime.

I was in a bar all afternoon watching women's volleyball waiting for the race to come on before finding out about the delay.
It's Jamaica's 15th anniversary tomorrow since gaining independence. The party definitely started early.
If you don't have cable/satellite, you can still use the NBC Olympics Live Extra app. I found this by accident. Pick Comcast as your provider, but instead of logging in, tap the back button. The app may or may not crash at this point. If it does, relaunch it. In either case pick a live stream again and it will work, and work from then on. Aside from the live streams (without commentary) you get the MSNBC, NBCSN and one other channel. Nifty.
Kirani James, 19. Now, that was one crazy 400M. The USA won this event for the past 7 Olympics. No American even made the finals this year. He's the first non-American to break 44 seconds for the 400M. He's also the first medalist in history for Granada for any event. Just saw this one NBC too: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/olympics-fourth-place-medal/teary-eyed-felix-sanchez-dedicates-stunning-400-hurdles-224759090--oly.html Pretty touching. Still a gold medalist after 8 years too. That's pretty crazy for track events. He's 34.
Wow Kevin Durant is doing amazing for Team USA basketball. He's becoming one of my favorite players just watching him shoot 3's like its nobody's business.
LOL, fail typo, sorry. ------ Liu Xiang was injured again in the qualifying round for the 110M hurdles. A repeat of Beijing. It's so sad. He won that gold in Athens. In China, he has the same amount of fame as the likes of Yao. That's probably it for his career.
