Because it has barely any replayable content. Yes, you get it out every update but it seems half-arsed and a cheap way to get up the charts that the developer cannot even a) release an update with a large degree of content not give loads of really small patches of updates and b) actually release a full game at launch.

The other reason is that Pocket God is mainly defended by 10 year old children who have no actual reason why it is superior to other games. If you are a pocket god fan, you are an exception because you have reasons behind your like for the game and seem to have decent English, and I respect you for that. The massive fanbase behind Pocket God is because of its cheap nature, casual gameplay that may be fun to the directed audience and constant updates that make the user have something to look forward to and support.

The mass voting for Pocket God is deserved, as the fanbase that has been acquired is deserved to Bolt Creative's marketing and business plans. As hard as I have been thinking to try and come up with a reason how Pocket God can unfairly win an award through this competition I cannot come up with one except that children can either be on strict budgets and have few games or can be manipulated easily, so in all fairness winning the best app ever award is deserved as they have captivated the public. It's just that from a critical viewpoint from various websites minus one Pocket God is not the 'Best App Ever'.

My main point that you should read over any other here is that I believe in my opinion which I logically think is right it would be an injustice for Pocket God to win the Best App of the Year when other games are vastly superior to it.

You made well articulated comments, but ultimately it will be a matter of personal preferences that will result in a literary battle in defense of our point of view rather than debating over the game itself. So I am not going to debunk your point.

I will tell you why I like it though. In essence it is a sandbox game where you get to do whatever you wish to a personal kingdom. The game does not punish you for any actions and it has a relaxed atmosphere around it. Making it perfect for stress relieving. (what releases stress better then flicking a pygmy into a flaming volcano?) It is fun to watch some of the creative effects performed by said pygmies when you expose them to unconventional situations.

Although I don't like the recent approach of making PG into a game. To me it's appeal rests solely on entertainment nature of it, where it is just a toy to play around with.

Sorry for double posting, but one thing I must disagree with is that it needs replayability. The topic is best app, and that envelops all apps on the appstore, and PG is not really a game, so you can't compare it to other games since it is not on the same category.

I really don't think the PG devs are having their business ruined by people who don't like Pocket God. For a start, many of the people who don't like it have actually paid for it, myself included. Also, not everyone thinks it's cool to hate on PG, they just don't like it... implying people only do it because it's the cool thing to do is a pretty weak defense and if taken seriously, might as well be applied to every bad review on every film, game, music CD and book in history. Obviously there are people who like to hate anything popular, but you can't use that as a generalization for everyone.

The reason Pocket God in particular gets more criticism than other "bad" apps is because more people have heard about it to criticize it. At least it's providing publicity.

It does go down to personal opinion. My main annoyance with Pocket God is how I expected it to be like Interactive Buddy yet was a lot worse and disappointed me very much.

And even then I was still welcoming to the updates, although as I did get it further down the line, the next update was the 'Idle Hands 2' one. This seemed to just change what the pygmies did when idle, which wasn't exactly great to look forward to.

So I looked at how the community was reacting to this Idle Hands update, and surprisingly they were raving about seeing a little character burping and so on. This just made me realise that the majority of fans can't be mature because the last thing I'll be hyping would be little men burping around when you aren't actually playing/using the game/app.

Although the 'replayability' issue was fixed somewhat by the 'Challenges' add-on the small depth of the updates meant you'd, for example, throw a pygmy into a volcano once or twice but then you wouldn't really care, compared to Interactive Buddy where I could hit a man and watch him react with baseballs and molotov cocktails all day. That leads me to my next point on replayability - on Pocket God, what do you get for killing a pygmy or using a shark to beam the little island men? Apart from achievements which don't have a sense of scale like the obsessiveness of console achievements, nothing. Money which you can spend on unlockables would have been better and given the game some life.

Most of these comments, although factually true, all lead down to opinion, yet still I believe that Pocket God does not deserve to win 'Best App Ever'. It is not a better game compared to the others and not as good as an app as Tweetie. It has to enter either camp of game or app (although game is better) and it doesn't win on either front.

Good point, generalization always fails. But I wasn't taking the global context, it is a more directed at people who hates PG just to distinguish themselves I guess. When I get shoved by a rude person, I might shout why are people so ignorant. I don't mean to imply the whole world is in fact rude, just that one person who pushed me.

But I must disagree that bad publicity improves the app.

I'd like to add after reading Midian's post that I am not hating PG to try and be the 'odd one out', in fact I'm not hating it at all as I admire how the developers have got such a big fanbase, it's just that I was extremely disappointed with my purchase and see it as an injustice if PG does get the title of Best App Ever for 2009.
