It made more sense to me for people to be picking up random ammo off dead characters as opposed buying that stuff in fixed quantities out in a wasteland. I also liked the idea of real life peoples' progress not going entirely to waste, in a way you're helping out other players when you die. You can earn the coins in Arena Mode, and you can win them as a bonus when you clear a level. I can kind of understand your point about permadeath... but hey, you don't have to scavenge if you don't want. You lose your inventory, it just doesn't vaporize. The game will not fall apart if you don't scavenge. It's free to try out and I think you get a solid experience for free. But yes, you will have to wait and see... About 12 more hours.
