It's kept me occupied for the last hour or so. Definitely geared towards buying coinage but the way it is now is a nice challenge (on level 9) and kind of fun. It keeps the pressure on well, just teasing you with being able to afford the next income boost but not quite safe to splosh the dosh on it as another strong wave comes at just the wrong time. There is an arena mode too (endless) that's pretty intense. Got to wave 31 and earnt about 700 coins I think, so not too bad (with the next character unlock I want being 5k). So you can earn your way until you get to the higher end characters that are in the 45-80k+ bracket). It's got permanent stats, loads of upgrades and perks to collect for, looks to be a lot of characters and something to do with spells (not too sure but looks like you gotta press a combo of 3 buttons to enter a 'code). Interesting use of pixels art too... The pixelated characters can rotate smoothly, so the large pixels rotate in retina if that makes sense. Anyway looks good package and IMO should not be overlooked! I just lost way more time than I care to think about playing this. Got to level 28 on my first try on Arena Mode. Just had another go after putting some more time into Classic Mode and managed level 80. The tension towards the end was superb. If you like this sort of thing you'll like this sort of thing (he said tautologously). Alex Wolf Well-Known Member Dec 5, 2010 585 3 18 #7 Alex Wolf, Apr 6, 2013 This game looks sexy.. On topic, this looks mighty interesting. I'll have to check it out. Hopefully I will see otherwise Edit: So I just got a gem to upgrade with, I don't know how common they are though oldgamer dude Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2013 487 0 0 #10 oldgamer dude, Apr 6, 2013 Nope you'll earn gems to upgrade units. I just earned my first . I think this is going to be a bit of a grind but fun as hell - if you know what I mean And who doesn't love bumpy little pixelated knights and wizards ? Ha ha , too slow on the reply . Exact-Psience Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2012 22,664 2 38 The Work-At-Home Guy Philippines #11 Exact-Psience, Apr 6, 2013 Yup... been playing this for about an hour now. Pretty simple mechanics, but has some significant differences in the higher level units that keeps things interesting. I recommend to give it a shot since the game's free. Graphics are pixellous goodness, but maybe lacking in the audio department. As far as game balance is concerned, it's somewhat easier than most lane defense games. And my concern is that the cheapest units might get too strong when upgraded and spammed. Lots of units to unlock, but it will be a grind. Fortunately, the game seems fun that it might be ok to spend a couple bucks on IAP to help the devs out and to give your game a little bit of a boost. Simple but full of character. Bit of a glitch playing on iPhone 5 tho... you can sometimes see the characters before they enter the screen. Hopefully be optimised for the 5 soon. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #14 Royce, Apr 6, 2013 This is definitely pretty grindy but I was having fun until I went to figure out how the dragoon is unlocked. Turns out its only for $20 kickstarter backers. I'm too OCD to even bother getting into a game where I know up front I won't be able to unlock all the classes. Avantyr Well-Known Member Sep 14, 2012 111 0 0 #15 Avantyr, Apr 6, 2013 Anyone know any codes for the spellbook?, im thinking thats how you unlok the dragoon.. The graphics are a smooth pixel art that does things normal retro games don't. The gameplay is simple, but it feels oh so good for some reason; possibly how balanced it feels. I can tell that getting some of these units will be a real grind, but this gameplay encourages constant replaying so I don't mind. My only complaint is that I'd like to be able to pick my lane without having to press the arrows on the left side of the screen. A simple touch anywhere on a lane would work better in my opinion.
