I'm happy to drop the money as I know I'll start on this tonight and get a good 30+ hours out of it. Plus I can smell 6 and 7 on the horizon...gotta keep paying SE until we get there... First iOS FF port I do not buy. lepeos Well-Known Member Jan 22, 2010 448 0 16 #4 lepeos, Mar 27, 2013 Haven't got round to completing IV but i loved FFT job system so I'll probably scoop this up based on that alone. I have heard the story suffers, its more like FF3's cookie cutter plot BoneyCork Well-Known Member Jul 23, 2011 246 0 0 #5 BoneyCork, Mar 27, 2013 To be fair, It was never going to be 3D because they only made 3D versions of 3 and 4 for the Nintendo DS. I don't mind though. I much prefer the 2D version of 4. Flrjcksn Member Jul 12, 2012 13 0 0 #6 Flrjcksn, Mar 27, 2013 I prefer 2d to 3d, but the characters look like they all came from ffd, something I don't really care for. Still getting it though. Still, I don't really like the look of the character sprites. audiotaku Member Mar 27, 2013 19 0 1 #9 audiotaku, Mar 27, 2013 I can't find any YouTube videos on this one. Anyone fancy taking a quick gameplay video? 2D and 3D versions go hand in hand. The graphics look way better than ATB though? Similar to Golden Sun on GBA I'd say [EDIT - Okay on closer inspection this looks nothing like Golden sun... my bad...]. I guess when you're purchasing a port you're faced with weighing up the price (which is still relatively cheap considering the work that went into the original and then the touched up iOS port - Dark Side of the Moon turned 40 and I still paid £4.99 for it last week) and your love for the series. I never played SNES FF titles just for graphics as a kid, I played for the story and the game mechanics. I'd rather play Pacman all day than Epic Citadel. Sure, when comparing FFIV and V, Cecil's story is beautifully adapted into 3D, but only because the DS version got there first. But FFV was more mature in plot and gameplay complexity from Square and this re-release is just for us!! Besides, I'm guessing a lot of people are joining the dots and have realised that FFVI - many gamers' favourite in the series - is next to get the iOS treatment. I'll be getting this at midnight, filing it away for after I complete FFIV. As much as I love SE and FFV, I'm going to have to pass on this too. Also, because of a missing shadow, it looks as if someone pinned them to the background. A bit of static shadow would help a lot. Did they pay Kazuko Shibuya for this? And if I remember correctly, FF V was much harder than FF VI, which had less bosses and was a bit smoother in gameplay. Because of the difficulty, there was quite some grinding needed in FF V, back then. Minutes of Gameplay or longer? strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #14 strivemind, Mar 27, 2013 Hard to say, since this is a port of the GBA version, which was tweaked a bit. Anyone have a comparison on what changes they made? I know taking III from the original to the DS they rebalanced the dungeons... I think this is the best this game has ever looked to be honest. I feel the screens don't really do it justice. Although, my last few play troughs have been the GBA version so I've kinda gotten used to really low-res everything. Still, it all looks nice and sharp on my iPad4. Not sure about the black borders though....weird. MeanTuna Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2012 752 0 16 Writer #17 MeanTuna, Mar 27, 2013 I think this is true, it comes down to preference I guess because I much prefer the 2d versions of ff III and IV than the 3d remakes. What makes V so special is the job system, the customization is incredible and that clicked with me way more than the usually cliched stories ( loved FF VIII though ). All in all this is one of the better FF's out there imo so if someone hasnt played it my suggestion would be to look past the dated visuals and give it a shot, its rather cheap even if its pricier than the appstore norm. trystero Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2009 717 3 18 #18 trystero, Mar 27, 2013 Nothing has ever felt as great to me as the job system and job diversity of FFT. Someone mentioned this is almost as good. Can anyone comment further? BoneyCork Well-Known Member Jul 23, 2011 246 0 0 #19 BoneyCork, Mar 27, 2013 The job system is why I love this game so much. The story isn't as good as 4 or 6, but both of those games had fixed character classes (although 6 remedied this somewhat simply by having loads of characters) Anyway, there's a lot of depth to the job system in this one. Obviously traditional parties are the easiest options but you unlock loads of jobs as you go and can level them up with every character. There's traditional stuff like Warrior, Thief and Black Mage, but then there's more unique stuff like Beastmaster, Geomancer and Cannoneer. By the end of the game you'll have a lot of options to play with. pka4916 Well-Known Member Jun 6, 2009 2,584 0 36 Male Wisconsin #20 pka4916, Mar 27, 2013 Still playing FF IV (only an hour into it..lol) too many games to play.... not enough time...
