The developer is present at the official Wesnoth site forums. There's also an iPhone version. Maybe someone can add it to the OP. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iwesnoth/id575239775?ls=1&mt=8 And yes, it appears this version lets you download from the official add-on and multiplayer servers. mekanikal fiend Well-Known Member Sep 9, 2010 814 0 16 #3 mekanikal fiend, Nov 12, 2012 yeah its real. playing a campaign now. matthjes Active Member Dec 17, 2011 28 0 0 #4 matthjes, Nov 12, 2012 Great! With access to the add-ons / custom campaigns this game has tons of content...next months are already planned matthjes Active Member Dec 17, 2011 28 0 0 #5 matthjes, Nov 12, 2012 Look good so far (just downloaded and started the tutorial). As written by the developer in the Wesnoth forum, you can only scroll by placing the cursor at the edges of the screen. No scrolling in lists, which makes browsing the add-ons kind of uncomfortable, but nothing serious (need to use the scrollbar on the right side). pka4916 Well-Known Member Jun 6, 2009 2,584 0 36 Male Wisconsin #6 pka4916, Nov 12, 2012 I have the original, and now I have to pay for this again??? What happened with the name.. strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #7 strivemind, Nov 12, 2012 Wesnoth is open source, so anyone could port it to iOS. This could be good though, since the previous release was abandoned several versions behind the current desktop version. Bool Zero Well-Known Member Dec 14, 2010 1,922 0 36 #8 Bool Zero, Nov 12, 2012 My question is this: for those who have bought this, is it a remake of the other game or is it a totally new game of sorts with new campaigns, maps and the like. I still own the original and I love it, but there is n sense buying this if it is the same game repackaged, even if it adds add on maps (since th original certainly was not lacking in content). I want to bite, but I want to make the informed purchase and not just dive in! Originally I was coming here assuming this might be a shill job, but apparently it is the legit article, so now it is just a matter of knowing what I will be getting if I buy this! Thanks in advance for any responses! strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #9 strivemind, Nov 12, 2012 Wesnoth is a huge open source project that has seen an active community and development for years. It's also open source, so technically anyone can make an iOS version. This is also technically the same game, but the previous iOS release hasn't been updated in 2.5 years and is quite far behind the features of the desktop releases. Here's just s few reasons to pick this one up over the old: - a LOT of bug fixes and tweaks - new/improved art - more campaigns - download new maps and campaigns from add-on server - multiplayer - an active developer who will hopefully keep things in line with the desktop releases matthjes Active Member Dec 17, 2011 28 0 0 #10 matthjes, Nov 12, 2012 This version is based on the latest Wesnoth version while the other game hasn't been updated for 2 years. I'm not sure about the changes done during this time (you might want to look at the changelog from the last two years), but I think you'll get at least new artwork, more campaigns, and access to a huge amount of add-ons. It surely also fixes some bugs from the other game. So it's not a new game, "just" a more up-to-date version of Wesnoth. strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #11 strivemind, Nov 12, 2012 Just did a quick calculation, and since the previous iOS release was around Wesnoth 1.8, and now they're into 1.10.4, you can check the official changelog for a complete list of changes. (*hint, there's 1693 lines of itemized changes and bug fixes) pka4916 Well-Known Member Jun 6, 2009 2,584 0 36 Male Wisconsin #12 pka4916, Nov 12, 2012 Yeah, I just talked to the Dev... sounded like Kyle abandoned this project, and moved on to the other Card Game. Since I don't want to jump right away, I'll wait and see if this one lasts on the Istore. ooh and that is one big list of fixes and changes.. lol Bool Zero Well-Known Member Dec 14, 2010 1,922 0 36 #13 Bool Zero, Nov 12, 2012 Sounds good enough for me then. Sold! Buying now, mainly for the updated features and ability to download community maps. I loved the original iOS release, so this is by no means a money issue, rather a "is it worth the double dip?" internal debate! Thanks for the responses all! Estrica Well-Known Member Oct 16, 2012 184 0 16 #17 Estrica, Nov 12, 2012 No, it's not real time. It is based on Wesnoth, which is a very good turn based strategy. You can download and try the original for free on Mac/Linux/Win. JBRUU Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,758 0 36 USA #18 JBRUU, Nov 12, 2012 Aww. I could never really get into turn based games unfortunately. Not really my style. Well, enjoy guys! Guess I'll just wait for a decent RTS to surface on iOS...LASW (no multiplayer, resources fo easy to get) and Starfront (damn pop limit and unbalanced races) never really captivated me like the AoE games did. Uberskooper Well-Known Member Apr 6, 2012 94 0 0 #19 Uberskooper, Nov 12, 2012 If you are looking for a real time strategy game for the iOS I recommend Autumn Dynasty. It's probably the best RTS on the platform. Emos Well-Known Member Dec 2, 2009 478 0 16 #20 Emos, Nov 13, 2012 I took the plunge on this and yes it is a full Wesnoth game. The touch controls work pretty good but some other aspects are really clunky, such as having to use the mini map to scroll around the battlefield and no zoom. Guess I've been spoiled with some of the other TBS games that have come out in the past couple of years specifically for iOS that this UI seems like a step back. That said the Wesnoth gameplay is there! (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
