There is nothing in the game that you need to pay to access, as such it's not necessary to purchase gems to make the game worth playing. The devs start you out with a generous amount of gems (500, which really go a long way) and you can earn a lot more through game achievements. The online play is great. Once you unlock the castle you can join clans. Clan members can help you out by donating troops to help with your defenses and raids. The premise of the game is pretty simple, you build up your home base by constructing defenses and resource gatherers. You can gain trophies and resources by raiding other players online and reversly they can raid you to steal your resources. Alot of emphasis is placed on building up a strong home base to protect against raids. RTS fans shouldn't pass this one up! At first it seems it sucks cuz you get attacked but you get an automatic 12 hour shield once demolished. Revenge is pretty fun. So far only level 17 so not too high but I've attacked about 25 times or so. Nothing really to lose. Just put walls around your cannons, towers, and mortars and the rest just leave unprotected and hope for the best. I don't plan on paying and if I ever do feel it's necessary then I'll quit cold turkey no matter how muc time invested.
