It seems to be a competent hack and slash, you've got the loot, you can identify uncommon or rare objects and you kill things. Gear doesn't seem to reflect on you appearance. You gain skills as you level up... No surprises there but you don't level up with xp but with quests! Two heroes for now with different quests. (the first one is free, the second one is 65 gems) Can't comment on iap yet, but for free this is surprsingly solid. Gems, scrolls and gold can be found in game or bought. Update 2: At the end of each quest you go to a town, where you can send your items to your stash, sell them or buy new ones. You can then select a new quest but like some freemium games you need to wait 5 minutes between each missions to get a new one... Of course you can speed up that process by using gems and it gets worse each time (10 minutes...) Pathfinding is solid and you get a lot of loot, just got my first epic item \o/ (items range from trash to legendary, they can be identified by the color of the bag you just looted) The maps are pretty linear but you can find rooms full of treasures or ennemies if you really search for them. It seems to be dungeon only for now, no exterior maps. Update 3: So here's how iap works! You can purchase gems or obtain them in game (loot/ finishing a quest). They can then be used to purchase gold or identification scrolls. You can also use those gems to speed up the next quest (you can replay them for free) or to buy special items from the shop. If you don't have any identification scrolls you can go to the appraiser when you are in town to identify that object ( it will take a few minutes, you can speed up the identification for free when there's a minute left.) It bests Dungeon Hunter 2 in almost every category -- better graphics, better animation, better combat, better controls. Even though it's free with IAP, the system feels much less contrived than that of DH3, not to mention that the game is (properly) structured around story, quests, and exploration and not arena fights and enemy waves. We'll see how the difficultly ramps up, and the lack of character customization is understandable but disappointing. But so far this is a pretty stunning game. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,971 722 113 England #14 psj3809, May 30, 2012 I was a HUGE fan of Dungeon Hunter 1 and 2 so its interesting you mention it. You say the controls are better, is it a d-pad or touch the screen to go to that area type of thing ? Its a shame this one is IAP and you 'wait' for other missions, would prefer to pay £3.99 or something without any IAP's but i suppose thats the way of iOS gaming at the moment. I'll check it out for sure, love Diablo type games, this 'could' be the type of game i wanted Dungeon Hunter 3 to be. But please tell me about the controls, cheers awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #15 awp69, May 30, 2012 This has me longing for 11 EST to come. I want this game. I've been dying for a decent dungeon crawler in the Diablo vein and if it bests DH2, I'll be happy. Wish it wasn't "freemium" just because I hate the cost of the unknown. The days of paying one price for a premium app are dying and it sucks. killercow Well-Known Member Apr 8, 2009 3,784 3 38 https://twitter.com/killercow #16 killercow, May 30, 2012 There's no virtual stick. Instead you point where you want to go or you can hold your finger to move your character around. For me the fact that it's freemium without coop or open areas makes this game a bit beliw Dungeon Hunter 2 but far above the third one. It's also highly polished (you know, unlike gameloft ) psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,971 722 113 England #17 psj3809, May 30, 2012 Thanks for letting me know. Arrrgh i love my virtual sticks ! But from the video it looks great. I just wish Dungeon Hunter 3 was like this, even with freemium. The dungeons/missions sound great, i'll be downloading this one later (any idea on size ? I didnt see it in the initial post yet). - Edit - oh i see 205 meg, not bad Really like the look of this one though squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #18 squarezero, May 30, 2012 I actually enjoyed DH2, but there's no question that it was pretty darn sloppy (don't know how often I ended up swinging wildly at barrels to no effect). As you mention, this is far more polished. I also found the combat in DH2 pretty boring (in fact, that was the only area where DH3 was an improvement). Heroes Call manages to keep you involved by adding a rhythm component: you can tap once on a enemy to attack continuously, or you can keep tapping at the right moment to activate combos. As skills are unlocked, you gain swipe abilities like shield bash and charge attacks that promise to add more variety to the combat system. So far it strikes me as doing a good job balancing simplicity with (some) depth and visual interest. Story-wise it doesn't yet have the epic scope of DH2, but it's also not an utter mess (like DH2). I should also say that the DH series always struck me as more of a Dungeon Siege clone than a Diablo clone. Also, the loot system in DH2 was fairly deep (especially the armor-set system), and you had to appreciate the branching class system -- Heroes Call seems far more streamlined in both areas. And of course the freemium aspects will be a barrier to many people, though so far this strikes me as fairly benign implementation (more like Bullet Time and less like, well, anything by Triniti). rhljk14 Well-Known Member Jan 24, 2010 284 0 16 Swansea, MA #19 rhljk14, May 30, 2012 Looks like its a must get.
