Dragons Odyssey Frane is a high-quality action-role-playing game from Japanese veteran game developer, Exe-Create. Beautiful hand-drawn 2D graphics, a wonderful soundtrack, and an excellent English translation coupled with talented voice actors set this title apart and make it a great fit for anyone who has been patiently awaiting a solid fantasy title for iOS to come out of Japan. We hope you will enjoy Dragons Odyssey Frane, as it is one that has been beloved by many gamers across Japan. In Vanneth, the world above, and under the direction of God coexist two races charged with the oversight of Kalenthia-or in other words, the world below. These two races are the Angel Clan, who administer blessings; and the Demon clan, who administer trials. Sadly, being unable to compromise in their beliefs, they have clashed and disputed continually over how to promote temporal growth in the world below for untold numbers of years. It is during such a time that one angel named Escude decides to prove who is right once and for all, and in breaking Gods commandment not to interfere directly in the affairs of humans, she descends to the world below. Having caught wind of this, God summons her most trusted servant, Kunah, the son of the fire dragon chief. And along with Riel, Kunah's childhood companion, who is also consquently the daughter of the ice dragon chief, he follows after Escude in an attempt to bring her back to Vanneth. And so the story of a dragon duo under the guise of human children begins and the unlikely adventure that awaits them below the clouds on the vast Kalenthian continent... Thanks for bringing this to my attention! EDIT: I am almost 100% certain that the game is in English with English voice acting. It's actually by the same developer who did Across Age, and the graphics and gameplay are similar, though enhanced (the environments are not so obviously tile-based, for instance). It does have fully voiced cut-scenes, and there is a nice 3D intro animation. The VO is about the same quality as something like Tales of the Abyss, though the mix with the music can get a bit wonky. Like in Across Age, you play as a boy/girl team, but instead of switching between them you have both melee and ranged combat buttons, with melee doubling as a targetting move for the girl's ranged spells. Once you get used to it it's pretty fun, especially in the way it prevents straight button mashing. There is a power up meter that, when full, gives you a special "dragon claw" attack -- the effect is similar to the "scrubbing bubbles" sequence in Return of the King. There also seems to be a crafting and cooking system, and weapons can be upgraded. Leveling is automatic, though; you can, however, choose which spells to "equip." Controls overall are decent (and yes, you can move diagonally), and the game plays smoothly on my 4S. You can save only in designated spots. The story is fairly simple, but the world seems interesting, the characters are memorable (though the girl is pretty annoying). So far quests have been story-driven, and the way you are set up to tackle the first dungeon is fairly clever. I'll try to write more tonight, but so far I can say that the game kept me engrossed during my hour long commute. Definitely helped get a feel for the quality, voice acting, and story style. I'd really love to see some gameplay/combat video before I'd consider a purchase. Camparing it to the console version "The Lost Angelic Chronicles Of Frane: Dragon's Odyssey", which is now reduced in price and available for approx. 15 bucks, this is a deal.
