"Few games are as hypnotic or menacing as Zaga-33, a top-down exploration adventure in which you somehow work your way through an oppressive alien world. Fast-paced and pleasingly nasty." - 500 Must-have Apps, The Telegraph, 3 October 2012 Information Seller:Michael Brough Genre:Adventure, Strategy Release:Apr 11, 2012 Updated:May 19, 2023 Version:5.1 Size:33.3 MB TouchArcade Rating: User Rating: (8) Your Rating:unrated Compatibility:HD Universal Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #2 Gabrien, Apr 24, 2012 This actually looks intriguing going on this: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Drexiel Well-Known Member Oct 27, 2011 1,702 0 0 Commercial Diver Ponce, PR #3 Drexiel, Apr 24, 2012 looks interesting... but what's the point of the game? Unless, there is a sort of soft timer like the hunger system was in the old days that it pressures you to keep moving. Also, everything else has a graphic, and the main character is still an ascii character. I just find that a bit odd. And in other stuff regarding roguelikes, i would like to see a rogue on the iOS with better graphics this time. Breath of Fire 5 was one of my favorite roguelikes, but people didnt expect that to be a BOF title and it got less love than I hoped it'd get. magihiro Well-Known Member Mar 26, 2009 824 0 0 #5 magihiro, Apr 24, 2012 Here's what I've got (played the pc/mac version): The object is to get to floor 25. Get there and you unlock texture packs for the game. You avoid enemies because you only have 9 hitpoints. Each enemy does 1 damage per hit, as do you. Each enemy takes 2 hits to kill. There is no experience. Therefore, there is no real purpose in picking fights with enemies. You regain 1 hp every new floor. There are random items strewn about the map. They do random things (freeze enemies, nuke enemies, teleport, etc.) and are random each game. It's basically supposed to be a quick-play, puzzle-like roguelike. Not a super deep game, but rather one you can play in 5 minutes, with the only real strategy being learning how to avoid the enemies (each type of enemy moves differently/has different AI) and make it to floor 25, managing your resources (the items you pick up). knoids Well-Known Member Dec 1, 2011 315 0 16 School Seattle WA (USA) #6 knoids, Apr 24, 2012 Is the main character an '@' symbol? magihiro Well-Known Member Mar 26, 2009 824 0 0 #7 magihiro, Apr 24, 2012 Yes, just like old school roguelikes. Exact-Psience Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2012 22,664 2 38 The Work-At-Home Guy Philippines #8 Exact-Psience, Apr 24, 2012 It wouldve been ok if everything was represented as ascii characters just like in the old days. I bet his d back home misses him. I'm all over this and then some! While the roguelike description is apt, it also could be seen as a Robots game (with every step you take the monsters also all take a step) with a bunch of fun tools (not just the sonic screwdriver or limited teleports). Killing monsters in this game gains you nothing in itself, just a necessity to survive onto the next room or grab some key item dropped somewhere on the level. Your score is based on how far you make it into the lair (dying on the 5th level nets you a score of 5), but if you manage to make it all the way to the Cortex and destroy him you'll get a nice little bonus based on how many items you still have on your person (there may be other bonuses at that point as well, like your remaining health, but I'm not sure). Pure retro cheese in a can, 5/5! Brainthief New Member Apr 24, 2012 1 0 0 #12 Brainthief, Apr 24, 2012 Metroid, anyone? Anyone else get that warm fuzzy, I mean, cold dark space feeling, as in the artwork reminds you of The original Metroid? Great atmosphere. Digging the soundtrack. Easy to play, tough to master. I'll figure out the enemy movements just yet. Guise Well-Known Member Jul 10, 2009 2,027 14 38 #13 Guise, Apr 25, 2012 I'm finding the controls a bit iffy but liking the game nonetheless. I don't think it necessarily needs a D-pad (as some of the iTunes reviews suggest) but could use some fine-tuning. Am I the only having slight issues with the controls? Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #16 Royce, Apr 25, 2012 Hmmm... downloaded this yesterday since it looked good, and was immediately underwhelmed. So much so that I decided to not even create a thread since I figured no one would be into it (not a single other person posted, as far as i can remember, on the last streamlined roguelike I remember a thread about, and I liked that one better). Anyway maybe I'll give it another whirl since people seem to be enjoying it. Kepa Well-Known Member May 16, 2009 1,988 1 38 #17 Kepa, Apr 25, 2012 This is a great game. Probably my favorite roguelike on iOS right now. Takes 15 minutes to play a full game, does a great job of generating interesting situations despite its simplicity, fair, very high replay value. djflippy Well-Known Member Mar 9, 2009 4,441 0 36 #18 djflippy, Apr 25, 2012 ^this LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #19 LordGek, Apr 25, 2012 Game Impressions Heck yeah, this game is so minimalistic, streamlined, and brutal but still incredibly compelling!
