The new Ipad S will have smell sensors...
Then you would be able to smell everything that you see...:eek::D

    Can't believe that within 14 months I went from Ipad 1, 2 -> 3
My college is already asking, when I have my 3rd ipad for sale..

    No, its not.
There will be no iPad 5 in March. Or April. Or any earlier than Sept/Oct.
Every site/article/analyst that speculated March is on massive backtracking now.
The 128gb option actually confirms that no iPad 5 for 6 months.
The very early condition of the leaked back case also confirms that an iPad 5 is not exactly around the corner. No attached components is a very solid indicator that while the design may be close to finalised, the internals are not
There are numerous other things that indicate not so soon but the 128gb should be the most obvious one. They haven't gone to a bi monthly refresh cycle. It's simply an addition to an existing range that's gonna be around for longer than some perceived.
Those wanting the space should be happy and buy the iPad "ultimate". In 6 months, they'll still have good resale value.

    No, it won't.
128 gb will be the new max anyway. The iPad mini requires a fair bit of re engineering to make space for additional memory and retina. And Sharp is still having screen manufacturing issues and isn't exactly financially stable just yet.

And just back on the iPad 4, its worth noting that all the internal components are exactly the same and that it had the available space to add the extra memory. Only change is to the cellular lte and that's on the software side. It's in no way a refresh. If a new iPad was as close as March or April, the logical move would be to wait until then to put 128gb and make it a usp of that product rather than soft launch it for this one.

Anyway, this soft launch (and loads of other factors) makes it very safe that the iPad 5 (or the iPad mini 2) are not close. Any analyst saying they are close should be immediately scratched off your reading list because they really are not analysing.

Well, due to production problems, I too think the ipad 5 coming in March will be out of the question, even though anything is possible with Apple.

But a wholesale refresh of the ipad 4 is not out of the question, and this 128 gb version could just be the tip of the iceberg for it. But even a refresh, one may not even be able to notice, unless one was to do a complete tear down of the unit. So I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. But I know if I just purchased an ipad 4 with 64 gbs in the last month, and Apple didn't let me trade it in to upgrade for $100, I would be hella pissed.

They extended the deadline for returns of the ipad 3 to trade in for an ipad 4, so they might do the same thing with this new ipad 4 128 gb. Or, if one goes into an Applestore and acts really mad and start yelling, bet you they would upgrade you. Anyway, I really wish I had 128 gb not 64 gb prison hell. To really make a ipad 4 future proof, disk space is the most important criteria to me, not cpu/gpu power since it has ample.

There will be a time soon, when games will be 5 gb each, and we will be using our ipads/iphones for downloading videos and such. And the 50 mb restriction for cellular will be raised, and all developers will make their games ipad and iphone retina. Plus 64 extra gig for an extra hundred is much better than getting 32 gb extra for the $100 like I did with my new ipad 64 gb.

Well, good thing for me, when I get the ipad 5 or 6, at least now I know there will at least be 128 gb, but then again I would prefer 256 gb. Hehe. :D

I meant by the end of the year I think there will be an ipad 2 mini with retina and 128 gb disk space. Are you staying you don't think it's coming out til late 2014?

  6. Well, I still remember my first computer a Commodore 64 with 64 KB of memory. Amazing the progression...

I don't feel cheated by Apple even though I bought a 64 GB Ipad, it is more than enough currently for me.I got some blu ray movies on it and no music as I listen to the Internet radio whole time.Other applications apart from games are mostly small ( most of them under 50 MB).I don't store emulator games on it as I know I don't have time to play them all, and to be honest, most of them I like are already available on App Store as official ones.
As I see it in my usage tab,EA games are on top of list , but it's not like I will keep them forever, they will eventually get erased as I get tired of them.
Games with more or around 5 GB ? Apart from modern combat genre, I don't see them in our near future , also you need to take into account the price of development for huge games like that and about its price I don't even want to speculate.

Oh yeah, by the end of the year, yes.
I thought by soon you meant as in March/April.

It's also worth noting what launching a 128gb version specifically at this time says to consumers.
In marketing terms (well Apple marketing terms anyway), its equal to a public statement that they are not releasing a new iPad soon, the iPad 4 will be available for a good while yet, don't start saving up for a new new new iPad with retina, keep buying iPad 4's, you won't get stung by refresh cycles, there is no iPad 5 in March.
It's very clever and a very clear statement of intent.
And the timing couldn't be more perfect.

Yes! This is a true gamechanger. It can be dx11.1 compliant, supports OpenGL 3.x and MSAA and can have up to 10 times the performance.

Here's hoping it does make it in the next time.
I'm very doubtful that it will be ready in time to coincide with a possible a7 (iphone 5s) and a7x (iPad 5) but I'm hoping nonetheless.
It would be very nice for gaming.

Whoa. Looks like we're blazing past consoles there.

    And the battery life?

Unknown as yet. At least not publicly or definitively known.
But as killercow says paired with a quad core, it would be a massive game changer.
Everything else out there would be obsolete.
It will come but when is really the question at the moment.
Probably not on next cycle but likely after that.
Still though, it is nice to dream.

Finally, indeed. Okay, Amazon, get some in stock, and I will finally pull the trigger. This is what I've waited for. :)

Yeah, I kind of think so too that the ipad 5 will focus on weight, size, form factor, and screen tech. Maybe a smaller bump in cpu:gpu. To me, that's not that important because I already have new ipad, so I will wait for a game changer since what is important to me is game quality and console closeness since I play prett much on hdmi tv nowadays. Looking forward to this game changer whether it be the ipad 5 or 6. Actually, i prefer they do it right and just wait til the ipad 6 cause I would rather wait til next year to upgrade my ipad 3.

One thing to question now though is why the heck is Apple coming out with this new ipad 4? It is much smarter for apple to use this to market the ipad 5. It is kind of a waste wise to release now. That is why I have a hunch all new ipad 4 models will go through a slight refresh. Possibly a replacement smaller cpu to help the heat and weight difference. This would make no difference performance wise or form factor size changes but would solve their current problems to discontinue all Samsung cpus.

While a handful of us serious gamers really lust for a 128 gb model, most of the public still does not give a damn. Almost all of my friends ask me what size to get. They all ignore me and try to save $100 and end up getting the 16 gb models. So there is absolutely no real need for apple to release this 128 gb model. In fact it totally works against apple on release of the ipad 5, they can't use this as a reason for all us newer ipaders to upgrade, and they lose a huge marketing tool. That is why I think there maybe more to this than meets the eye.

I don't buy this for corporate excuse. Autocad files? I dunno...
