Any word on iPad3 retina support? devensega Well-Known Member Feb 28, 2011 621 0 0 #8 devensega, Mar 21, 2012 This game is brilliant. I had a promo code last week and since then I have sunk many hours into it. The gameplay is much the same but the graphics are better and the inclusion of aliens freshens things up. Behind the scenes levelling up and equipping the hunters is much improved. The campaign is rather good too. A TBS of this kind is IDEAL for async multiplayer, and I believe both PvP and co-op could be almost seamlessly woven into the single player campaign in a very elegant way. To the rest of ya: while I AM excited for this release, I would also like to issue a word of warning to those who are not familiar with Hunters 1, and how the devs handled that game. This is what I wrote on the front-page article of Hunters 2 a while back: Those of us who bought the game at the full price basically never got a game, but a four-five basic mission types framework without any context or narrative, or any reason to play beyond the first few character levels and the few included maps (as the game played out almost EXACTLY the same every time). The daily challenges the devs hopes would result in water-cooler moments where players could exchange stories of cool experiences were essentially just either escort a target or take down targets, against a few unnamed enemies with no unique characteristics, on the same maps, over and over. Add to this the fact that once in-game, the number of strategic options was staggeringly low for the genre (you could move, attack, or leave your character standing for an overwatch attack, where he fires at an approaching enemy), and the result was one of the most repetitive, context-less and near-empty iOS experiences I've ever come across. Rodeo Games visited these forums and spoke of tons of possible additions and extensions, from multiplayer to a campaign to having our names included in the game as heroes and villains (this last idea now seeming like a particularly desperate form of fanservice in order to temporarily appease the growing dissatisfaction, since the promise was never realized), all for Hunters 1, but not a single one of these ideas and concepts ever made it into the game. So, while I, against all better reasoning, am still excited for Hunters 2, I am hesitant to invest more money into a product from a iOS developer groups with one of the worst track records, a history of unfulfilled promises, and an abandoned and unfinished product in their past. Which is a shame, as Hunters 2 might really be an excellent product. strivemind Well-Known Member Aug 11, 2010 2,784 2 38 Designer Ottawa, Canada http://www.strivemind.com/ #10 strivemind, Mar 21, 2012 Definitely looking forward to this release. Loved the first game, even with all the flaws. undeadcow Well-Known Member Dec 4, 2010 9,486 2 36 Houston, TX #11 undeadcow, Mar 21, 2012 Looking forward to US release. Regarding Hunters 1; myself and scores of others benefited from developer taking a "free to try then IAP to buy" model and switching to just an up-front fee (so those who downloaded the trial version ended up with the game free). With that sort of poor business strategy it's no surprise the game did not get as much support as promised. Surely by now it's known buyers beware on any iOS game that promises future content (or pricing guarantees). C.Hannum Well-Known Member Feb 13, 2011 2,512 0 36 New York State #12 C.Hannum, Mar 21, 2012 I won't even be slapping myself in the face because I'm going into it this time knowing full well what the chances are that it's going disappoint (about 2:1 for disappointing based on the current state of H:E1). These guys have ambition, they do NOT have attention to detail. Example, for several versions of H1 there was a very annoying bug where if you resumed a game the Leadership Talent that lowered the cost to enter Guard mode to 0 would not be functional. I kept bugging them about it, they kept promising it would be fixed in the *next* patch (this went through about four "nexts"). They finally 'fixed' it. So the other day when H2 got delayed I decided to do a clean install of H1 for S&Gs only to find out they "fixed" that bug by simply lowering Guard costs to 0 all the time rendering the talent pointless (Either they figured everybody still playing it already had the talent and would never catch them or they really aren't good at managing complex systems). So, I'm going to insta buy H2 and I'm not going to regret it regardless, but if it turns out to be another bug ridden hot mess, I will not be buying 3 even if the entire original Sir Tech team comes to my house and gives it three thumbs up. They promised all kinds of things including hero units and a couple of months later any mention of that just didn't exist any more. I was even thinking a few weeks ago before I heard about this game "when are they going to include those hero units". It seems like thy never intended to. If this game is a flop I won't buy another rodeo games again. But taking the risk because it looks like they have possibly learnt from their mistakes. Though quite frankly I am not totally convinced yet. The addition of buying gold in hunters one seemed like a stupid move to me at the time, but it didn't impede too much so I hope they don't go further with it this time around. Hunters one was plagued with crash after crash the first month after it was released if this happens again then I will truly not be happy. Yet all said and done the game did show promise, I am just worried that because they developed their own engine this time around, unless their programming skills have been vastly improved it could be just another flop. grenadedodger Well-Known Member Jul 6, 2010 653 0 0 Manchester, UK #14 grenadedodger, Mar 21, 2012 On the one hand I am really excited about this as in my mind at least it is the closest thing to space hulk (please god someone make a WH40k TBS game for iOS!). However I cannot disagree with the comments above, the first one was handled terribly by Rodeo Games, it even had a bug for the 6 weeks or so which kept on resetting your game after mission 4. My finger will be itching to press buy on day one but this time I think I may have to hold off and wait for someone else to try it and post up what they think on here. dalbertson Well-Known Member Jan 25, 2011 485 2 18 #15 dalbertson, Mar 21, 2012 I've been playing this for the past couple days due to an extremely lucky promo snag on twitter so I'll throw my 2 cents out. I don't know if my opinion will carry much weight with some of you as I really liked the first game so keep that in mind as I gush. First, I love this kind of game, I love leveling up my squad, I love maxing out each and every skill tree, trying out different weapons, taking on daily contracts with just a lone hunter etc...Needless to say, I had already put in around 25h and had only done the first two contracts in the campaign. There are 5 skill trees available, each hunter comes with 2 trees so there are about 10 different "classes" you can have. There are also general skills you can update such as weapon damage, critical hit etc... There five different levels of loot, you can also manufacture your own weapons and armor building up the stats you want...up to a point. With enough credits you can build pretty powerful weapons and armor but it can't top the best you can get which is legendary and it drops very very rarely. In the 45h I've played I've only had one crash (iphone 4S with latest ios updates) right in the middle of a contact. When I booted back into the game it asked if I wanted to resume my contract and dropped me right back where I had been. All of this combines to make an excellent gaming experience. Having said that, I do hope that they release more campaign specific levels in the future and raise the level cap...also multiplayer would be an awesome addition. visionwebs Well-Known Member Jan 24, 2012 1,144 0 0 #16 visionwebs, Mar 21, 2012 Has this game gone PSEUDO-RPG then? byronbulb Active Member Jun 17, 2009 27 0 1 #17 byronbulb, Mar 21, 2012 Will it be retina-enabled for ipad3?
