Eh ??? Good to see Xevious, an 80's classic. Anyway i'm happy to see this, love my 80's arcade games, the interface/surround graphics dont look the best but its free so i'll give it a go. Wish more companies would release compilations like this though. Dont get me wrong i love iMame but i'm happy to support the original dev if they release their games on iOS like this. Sadly i can imagine that iMame works better than some of these official published apps though GDSage Well-Known Member Feb 4, 2009 472 0 0 #6 GDSage, Jan 26, 2012 Pay per credit? My dear Scamco, just what would we do without your scamming ways... psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,966 718 113 England #7 psj3809, Jan 26, 2012 Wouldnt say its scamming, its just like the Capcom arcade. You can either buy credits to play/test the games out of buy the games outright, some are £2.49, others £1.99 Quite expensive really, i think its great theyre releasing these old classics but the price of them is way too high. iMame has 'ruined' this for me really as i've got 100's on mame i dont really need something like this unless Namco release different games. But as always they put a high price on some of these retro classics which is a shame. I mean in the app store you can get a classic like Paper Monsters for 69p and then theyre charging about £2.50 for Xevious, its not like a new improved version like some companies do (They release the original and another with updated graphics). Just look at how busy they've been in the past three months: Ridge Racer Vita - $30 Ridge Racer at 30FPS with only three tracks and five cars, rest of content is DLC SoulCalibur port iOS - $12.99 Tales of Innocence R - Poor full-priced expanded port with Day one DLC allowing you to pay for ability points and the like ($3-$5 per go) Now this... ... and that's not even including all the scammy DLC they've done with titles before all this. When it comes to the question "What can we charge for and how much can we get away with?" no other company plucks the bottom depths quite like Namco has. I enjoy supporting devs that put out a decent product, but don't enjoy supporting those that put out crap for the sake of putting out crap. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #11 squarezero, Jan 26, 2012 Last edited: Jan 26, 2012 Not to mention selling the 3DS version of Xevious for $6.00! But the price of the games in this collection is kind of ridiculous. @Blown454: When you say "many," you of course mean 99.9% of people who us iMAME. Actually as it happens, Namco have been one of the better large companies when it comes to IAP on the whole. Soul Calibur has no IAP at all to my knowledge and the purchase price is just fine if not "attractive." This release is a different matter. But let's keep a fair perspective please. Rudi Well-Known Member Mar 3, 2009 523 0 16 #13 Rudi, Jan 26, 2012 I'd really support the companies, if they would give us good conversions of the old classics. But this is crap!!!!! not compatible wit ipad 1, Why? I have to play it on my little iphone schreen in a letterbox. Why not fullscreen. They goving us crappy conversions of old games. No extras, no enhanced versions. I can understand anyone, who plays the good versions on Imame. About the rights, I think many of us have alredy bought namco classics on Psp,xbox and playstation. But paying again and again for such a crappy version isnt ok. shame on you Namco. You should invest more time and money to give us what we like. GDSage Well-Known Member Feb 4, 2009 472 0 0 #15 GDSage, Jan 26, 2012 The SC port isn't about IAP it's the fact that it's also on the 360 (with HD support, leaderboards, achievements) and originally for $10. Comparatively, there's really no reason why the iOS port should be the same price, nevermind even higher. Also, they're known as Scamco by many a board whenever they release a ripoff title (or a title with a ripoff payment method), which actually occurs quite often and has occurred for some years now. psj3809 Moderator Jan 13, 2011 12,966 718 113 England #16 psj3809, Jan 26, 2012 Exactly ! The Atari app wasnt the best but you got a lot of games for one price, whereas this one theyre taking the mick with single games for £2.49 or £1.99 each. It 'could' be very good if they lumped in say 20 games with it and you pay £3.99 for all of them in one go but the price for each when like you say its just an emulator image wrapped up is poor squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,715 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #17 squarezero, Jan 26, 2012 The XBox 360 version was basically the original Dreamcast game wrapped in an emulator. The iOS version was actually ported, not emulated. It has HD graphics and a control scheme that actually works on a touchscreen. You may not like the price, but calling a $3.00 difference a scam is grossly unfair. Don't disagree about the other examples, though. Spamcan Well-Known Member Jan 2, 2010 997 0 0 The distant future year 1999 #18 Spamcan, Jan 26, 2012 I would say the lack of older device support and the lack of any kind of forethought in the control department are bigger issues then the price. I'm more then willing to pay $5 a piece of good ports of old Namco games.
