LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #13 LordGek, Nov 17, 2011 The game is good fun. Yet another case of dragging a path through adjacent tiles to spell words, nothing new there, but it does have a couple of novel twists: 1) Spell words over 4 letters and it will blast adjacent tiles as well. I don't think you get points for these extra letters but it is handy for clearing crap out of the way. 2) Black tiles are just annoying obstacles that can only be cleared if a word is spelled adjacent to them (although diagonally adjacent won't work for this). 3) Many tiles will have a number in the upper right which is not its point value but the minimum number of letters of the word this letter can be included in. So if that "S" has a 4, you can't use it in a 3 letter word (this mechanic gets really nasty in Extreme Puzzle only a few words in). stfj Well-Known Member Sep 18, 2009 227 39 28 Male #14 stfj, Nov 17, 2011 hey guys, I'm so happy you're enjoying SpellTower! LordGek: You do indeed get points for the extra cleared letters The way the scoring works is each letter has a point value similar to scrabble, and all those points are added up and then multiplied by word length. Thats why row clear tiles or 9 letter words rack up huge scores pavarotti2007: No achievements yet, but they are coming soon stfj Well-Known Member Sep 18, 2009 227 39 28 Male #15 stfj, Nov 17, 2011 @epedemix: Hopefully going to be putting out an iphone version of the puzzle mode in spellTower in a few weeks davidbhowe Member Oct 21, 2011 16 0 0 #16 davidbhowe, Nov 17, 2011 Congratulations on the release, Zach! I saw your comment late last night on Touch Arcade and checked out the game. I really appreciate the fine UI polish you put in (user feedback, the glowing letters, the words that you create fade out after completion) - that attention to detail really makes this game shine. LordGek Well-Known Member Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze Feb 19, 2009 12,282 141 63 Software QA Engineer Saratoga, CA, USA #17 LordGek, Nov 17, 2011 Some new mode or power-up ideas: Compress Mode: Tower mode but if there is ever an empty column, the remaining columns will press in so as not to leave those dang stragglers off to the side. Gravity's Rainbow Mode: Tower mode again as the base but there is no gravity (per se). Once a word is cleared the remaining tiles above the cleared letters simply hover in place. In addition to this odd behavior, gravitational force power-ups would be added into the game. These would be letters with an arrow on them pointing either up, down, left, or right. If a word is made with one of these letters all tiles in the field are shifted as far as they can go in that direction (if multiple forces are used in a word they are activated in their order of appearance in the word). Sliders Mode: Not sure if this would be Tower or Puzzle mode as a base but it would introduce a power-up that would allow the player to freely slide the row or column where the power-up was activated (probably on a letter, activated when that letter is used in a word). If sliding up/down the column's height would remain unchanged, with just the top letter tile appearing on the bottom of the active column or visa versa when slid. Just some ideas that came to me as I played, use freely or toss at your discretion, stfj. Already a favorite. mrkgoo Well-Known Member Dec 16, 2008 426 0 0 #19 mrkgoo, Nov 18, 2011 Pretty much all ZG games are must buys for me. I love the design and implementation. This game is pretty similar to others like Wordsworth and bookworm, but I like this more, again, due to the simplicity and elegance. Since it uses squares, there's 8-way directions and you can cross back over your own word. It does feel a little more random, but I guess that,s because I tend to be not very good vocabulary wise - I get stuck once the 6letter ones start coming! Anyway, I was waiting for Blueprints 3D HD, but I got Spelltower and electric box for the same price, so these will tide me over fine. HerbertKornfeld Well-Known Member Oct 13, 2008 141 1 18 #20 HerbertKornfeld, Nov 18, 2011 Buggy Button Great game. A small suggestion, though. The done button in tower mode needs some work. It activates on press instead of on release. So if you accidentally press this button (easy to do) youre game is instantly over. You cant even move your finger and release away from the button. No are you sure or anything. Just Game Over, heres your score. And whats worse, when you hit done the grey overlay comes down from the top, making me think that my iPad is kernel panicking. Not cool. Okay, maybe that last ones just me. But the first issue is definitely worth fixing. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
