That is the nature of Roguelikes, there is no, "Ohh..wait, time out guys, I have a nasty paper cut, just let me rest here a bit and then we can get back to all of this fighting and stuff."

    The iAd

    Wes,

As requested I have posted my thoughts on the iAd in the 100 Rogues forums. Here's the URL for the iAd thread I created.

    Here's what I posted there….

You keep saying this sort of thing. I'll try to reassure whatever concerns you have, but please stop with the empty threats.

The new weapons, potions, shop, locker, monsters have made the game worse? o_O

    Working our asses of.

Like LordGek said, you must not clearly understand what goes into a new class. No less than 80 hours of work from our (currently unpaid) artist, and easily a week or so engineering support from me, plus all the time it takes to balance from Keith. Also, what I've said from the start is that this is a game we want people playing for *years* to come. Like, 10. Indefinitely, if possible. 6 months waiting for a class while we fix bugs, refine the design, and expand content in every area.

EDIT: And we do fix bugs. Or, rather, I fix bugs, being the only programmer. This is why each patch log has a section called 'Bug Fixes'. Every patch I fix every bug I know exists in the game, as long I can fix in less than 3 weeks of work. Bugs that will take more than three weeks of work are being planned for carefully, but I don't see the need to halt all development for an indeterminate amount of time when I could be improving the game more regularly.
    / EDIT

Teleswapping works, in theory. The issue isn't that ability, it's what you might be facing after it's been executed. This is one thing that will be fixed in the next update. It's going to be a matter of fixing what already exists (the mob / spawning behaviour of monsters) rather than piling a bunch of extra items into a system with too many rough edges.

Rest does exist. Hold the 'Pass' button. Admitted, we could have gotten this across better (a button on the hud for it was all but launched in this update but it got canned last-second). The feature has been there since day one. There might even be a loading screen text for it.

I've argued our reasoning for this several times on this thread, but what's once more? If we allow selling of items, 2 things happen. First, we jack the prices of everything to compensate. Second, in response to that, every player ends up needing to hoard every piece of loot they find in order to make their character balanced against the monsters. We do not want players to have to do this.

I asked them to do this because the people that make the business decisions for the game don't look beyond their own forums. I talk with my boss about what's being said on this forum, but if you want the decision-makers to hear your complaints first-hand, I told you the best way to do that. I'm trying to help people that have complaints be heard as best they can.

By the way, Starcat, how's that 9000-weapon, inspired-by-disdain-for-100-rogues'-design game coming along?

in almost every other roguelike there is a camp button.

it just moves the game time foreward and creatures still run around. so you either wake up at full health, or you are woken up by being raped by monsters. its a gamble.

not something that i NEED but its a cool mechanic for when you are on level 23 of a dungeon and trying to get out to sell all your junk.

As has been said, just hold the 'Skip' button and you'll rest exactly as you've described. We actually made a tent icon for 1.08, but Keith and Blake asked me to remove it. The note to me was hurried, but I'm sure their reason was good.

thanks for asking. its actually comming quite nicely.

i have 6 characters working and a myriad of special weapons.

right now were finishing up my card game legacy so i can release it within the next 2-3 months.

hows your 2 classes and your continuously crashing bug ridden 4.99 game cause you dont seem to hire good beta testers, with an app in it thats generating tons of controversy and your "beta" that doesnt work game?

ah i can just read this thread and find out.

Yes, you should do that, rather than asking about things like selling items that I've responded to several times. Or, you could just stop looking at this thread, as you said you would.

Lol seriously iads in a $5 game?!?!? I'm so glad i didn't buy this. What the hell are you thinking?! I hope your sales suffer greatly from such a greedy decision. Obviously you don't care about users or their game experience. God, I pity developers like you.

A better model might be $1.99 w/Ads or $4.99 w/o Ads. Something like that is far more palatable, IMO.

I will never pay a cent for a game that has ads displayed while I play. That's just wrong

The one we have is only during the score tally screen after a game over, never intruding on the actual play time.

What the hell is going on in this thread?

100 rogues is still the iOS game i spend the most time with and i also like the update... maybe because i don't see the iAd (touch 2g iOS 4.1 jailbroken).

gotta say if i did see an ad in this app that i bought i wouldn't play anymore! there are other ways to make money with an old app (in app purchse f.e.)...

hope you guys remove the ad and get some positive reviews again.

    still love your game. keepitup

Greed implies we are trying making an abundance of money beyond what we need to stay afloat. I can assure you, that is simply not true.

Maybe it's not the best way to go about it. We'll have decided on that very shortly.

Have you guys considered putting out a Lite version with ads? Maybe you can play up to the Genie or something. Might be a good way to generate some excitement and some income.

I don't really care about the ads if they give you more money to work on more content.

There are an abundance of roguelikes. All of which don't have iADs as far as I'm aware, so it's a no brainer to choose others which are at the same premium price point without crappy ads anywhere in the game.

    iADs? Ugh. No thanks.

Been waiting for the bugs to get fixed in this game and now I hear it's going to host ads. Guess I'll wait even longer.
