Well the shield bug at least sounds like it was something that happened during the final compiling of the game, after beta testing had finished and after previews had been sent out... which would explain why no one saw it.
What about a sale? Because many people not reading forums like this will be really pissed having spend quite some money for a game not working.
Wouldn't an immediate sale automatically piss off those people who have already paid the full price for a buggy game?
Well first of all if there was an immediate sale all the people that are here saying it is ok to pay for a beta will certainly not be happy anymore. THAT you can count on. Secondly, the sale will not effect those that already PAID for it! How is a sale going to make it up to those people of which you speak?
Hey all! Lead Designer of 100 Rogues here. Apologies about the bugs =P. Like Wes said in the comments to the (wonderful) review, these things can happen with a game like ours. We just implemented Challenge Mode not more than ten days ago, as well as the Ghost Beetle and regular beetle. Expect a hotfix super-quick. -Keith
Just my luck, I get a really good dagger when I'm a wizard which gives me some of my health back when damage is dealt to me.... It crashes on me randomly whether or not I have a shield attached, but the continue button is always there to resume my game which is good. It's really refreshing to hear the devs in on fixing the bugs and crashes. Makes me glad I supported them.
HELL YES! I paid my $5, got a buggy game, OK it happens - but don't make me feel even worse by dropping the price suddenly!!!
First off I have to note: first time ever I've seen a dev actually openly admit they knowingly released an unfinished game because they needed the cash. Now, a part of me naturally wants to jump down their throat. Another part, perplexingly, want to give them kudos - mainly for admitting it - but also in context of what this game actually is: nothing short of astounding. And if this is, really, the only way we'd ever get to see it, then this is possibly the one case in which I have to say "so be it." As an admission, I have to note that I have played through two games so far, one as each of the characters and have not yet encountered a crash myself. Various minor bugs/glitches, yes, but nothing completely game-breaking. At this point I'd say it will be in the developers' best interests to: Fix the bugs as quickly as possible. Not have a sale. I guess they can also hope that the damage done in the long run by this release will be as minimal as possible but I suppose that remains to be seen.
I don't know why devs in general don't see it, but having a sale tends to be an awful option, spoils the customers and makes the dev lose rep (lowers sales @ launch, etc). Please don't have a sale on this @.@
Really love the style, design, and effort being poured into this game! I've found a consistent bug that hasn't been mentioned (i think). If you lock your phone while playing 100 Rogues, when you unlock it to continue playing the music is no longer present, though SFX still work fine. Repeating this a few times will sometimes bring the music back, but then sometimes it'll go away again. I've reset my phone twice now, and have almost a gig free, and it's still repeatable. I'd also like to add another vote for the movement animations feeling really choppy/stuttery/laggy on my first 3G iphone. While this could be a consequence of the grid-based gameplay, it definitely looks a lot smoother in all the gameplay videos.
In my opinion, releasing a buggy game is inexcusable. I do understand that there are likely financial reasons why the developers had to, but that doesn't excuse the massive amounts of bugs. Bugs are a part of gaming, but major crashes, and constant ones like this, are inexcusable. I guess I just don't understand how people can be happy to part of an "extended beta test". I get that people have been hyped up about this game for a while, but it doesn't excuse it being incomplete. To each his own I guess. I will not be purchasing until this is a complete game.
Sorry to hear that. Yeah I am getting them randomly as well. Most recent was on level two after I killed a black rat. Game just crashed and I booted right back up and continued. I've noticed that they mostly happen on level two(for me at least).
Well I am NOT happy, but what can I do? I already paid for it before I knew about the bugs! Nothing I can do but wait for fixes now. That's all any of us can do really. Complaining to the devs won't help anything. They know they messed up, and they'll fix it. They have to.
Hey, I have a solution to all these bugs: Everyone play Sword of Fargoal until the bug fix is released!
Ha ha! I hit continue after crashing with the shield bug and landed in the wall. In the off chance it would work I used a teleport scroll and ha ha! It DID!
