Exactly... Spending $5 on a buggy game (which is not very cheap in the app store) in the first place, waiting months for a relative stable version of the game and as a goodie we receive some ads now... Of course, the promised character update is still lacking. Well sure, ressources went into the inclusion of some ads instead of content ... I have an idea, maybe you can include some ads in the loading screen between the floors too? (sorry that was a little mean) @devs: honestly, can you enlight us on why you decided to include ads in a purchased game that definately is not part of the freemium and alike category? In the meantime I will leave a nice two star rating in the app store for this new "feature" of version 1.08.
I strongly encourage low rating if the ad is having a negative impact on your experience. I'd prefer you give us a high rating, and make a strongly worded post on the game's actual forums, of course, but both will be effective. Enough strong voices will be heard. As for why we did it, why would anyone do it? Because we need more money to continue developing. This is something we're trying to see if it's helping us sink or swim. Like everything else in the game, it could be tweaked or removed entirely depending on how it affects players.
It amazes me how uptight people get over one banner ad in a mobile phone game. I remember everyone going on about changing the home screen icon when it was released. Have they nothing better to do with their time??
I hate the ad... but seriously, its small. I fail to see how something that takes up 1/10 of the screen for 10 seconds (if that) of a game is considered overly obtrusive.
Kill the ad. It's an insult. This isn't a 99c app. It's a $5 app that we've been more than patiently waiting for it to be finished. If the ad is still present in the next version, my good review rating gets lowered on principle alone. Enough is enough guys.
LOL... I just wanted to try Hell. So I typed OHR: Straight to Hell as profile name. After stage "monsters spawned", the games asks to touch to continue. Then the game crashes -> back to springboard. I deleted it from the task bar and restarted my device. Still crashing.... (iPhone 4, firmware 4.1, non JB) Well, at least your ad is working, well done
I'm having no luck with the "Hell Beta." I enter the proper code, the game loads, then when I "touch screen to continue" it boots me out to the home screen. Any ideas? I'd love to check out the new world.
Yeah, it seems the Beta is serving its purpose in that a bug in it has been found. I've gotten it to work for about 3 turns in about a dozen attempts. Humiliation persists. Please, guys, make your concerns with the ad on the 100Rogues.com forums. That's the only way they'll be heard or that the ad will be removed.
Game Impressions Sorry, but I really, really wanted to like this game. However, ever since the first version (1.0?) it was totally bugging. Crashing on some occasions. The controls feel dodgy and unresponsive. The gameplay feels way too random and in a lot cases unfair. The overall interface (buttons) is a complete mess (Just look at the challenge-interface. Even better; just try to play that for a couple of minutes... It's horrible!). In short; the game is not polished at all and feels mediocre. I'm really sorry to be this negative, since I'm sure you guys are good folks and work hard! Also; Asking 5$ for an incomplete, buggy and unpolished game is a lot compared to other titles on the market. You might wanna hide for the fact; but your game would do a lot better by lowering the price. It wouldn't be more fun, but it might generate more income and free you of the need for iAds. If I would be you guys, I would at least try lowering the price for about 2 weeks and then push it back. Who knows? Bottom-line; I'm deleting it from my iPhone. And I rarely do that with games, but I can't put up anymore with this overall disappoint experience. Good luck with completing the game! I really mean that.
I hit a couple of bugs with this new version: 1) Several times, when moving from one level to another, the game crashed back to the springboard. 2) In the 1st Boss level, after beating the genie, I had to close the game to answer a phone call. When I came back to the game, the interface was stuck. The left half of the screen was black and I could only move the character left and right, not up or down. Sorry for the bad news. Good luck.
This thread probably has more hits / replies than the 100rogues.com forums, wouldn't it make sense that the "decision makers" come see us here? No offense meant to you, but I'm not registering to another forum just to re-post my opinion. Quite frankly at this point, I think I'm just about done caring. Sorry man, I know you've put your heart in this; my frustration is not directed to you.
Oh, and one more thing, if you don't sign in, at the start of the game, you don't get the ad banner, but that's because the game crashes before it can display your completed score. At least that's what I've seen, a couple of times.
Your game concept is really nice, very creative. But your implementation has been problematic. Your game is a roll playing survival game, so random crashes are a game killer. A randomly crashing roll playing survival game cannot be restored with a restart. Repaired yes, but not restored. That moment of game play, and all the experience and items gained, are lost. At the end of the day, a randomly crashing roll playing survival game is only a beta at best. If your game didn't crash you could consider it completed, and then add some DLC to help defray your costs. But with your game still crashing, it's not complete. And adding the ad banners is only going to open you up to more criticism. Good luck
well, i dont see any ads, so i dont care. but i would like to point out, that not all have iphones with flatrate data. so every ad is additional traffic in that case, which user should pay, and that's not really nice. this is rogue like game, so it's ok.
It may be ok, but it's not necessarily fun. Getting teleswapped into a room with 6 skeleton robots is not fun, or challenging. It's just cruel. One of many things we hope to fix in the next update.
games suppose to provide some challenge, and rogue like games should be unfair. if you want to create fun and easy game for anyone, then make 100 Boobs game.
I'm not sure I agree, there. I've heard of many nethack players that have very high success rates. I think the goal of a roguelike is to put the player through Hell trying to learn the right strategies, and to ultimately be beatable. A game that occasionally puts you in a no-win situation that could not have been prepared for or avoided is not mark of good design.
I agree here. While clever game balancing should mean there are means to counter most nasty situations, there always need to be a few times there is nothing you can do to escape and just die a horribly painful death. While not completely a gaming masochist, I find it more a case of NOT wanting to feel I'm having my hand held while I play. There is nothing cheesier than games that go overboard in trying to be balanced, "Oh, if I'm now encountering some nasty out of level beasty on this level, there must be some super wonder artifact on this level that was placed here to save my arse since I KNOW the dev would never allow some impossibly cruel situation."
I agree, this should happen quite frequently. But hopefully when you die your horribly painful death, your dying words are "Why didn't I just..." or "maybe I'll try that next time" rather than "had I but known!", "how is that even possible?!" or, "well, that's an hour the developers just stole from my life".
