I've beaten the Genie dozens of times without dying or crashing (well, the game crashes in other places, but never on the Genine level) Not dying requires the right gear and strategy. I've played a lot on an iPhone 3GS and iPad. The game crashes occasionally. But, it auto-saves often, so even when the game crashes I can usually pick up very close to where I was when the game crashed.
What I mean is, I've beaten the genie, but every time I do, I die. Even if I had full health beforehand.
I haven't seen that happen ever.... and I haven't read about others having the issues since 1.02. So I think you should be good now.
I spent three or four hours specifically trying to reproduce this various ways, and have fought / beaten the genie a fair bit since with no luck. I found one condition that could have caused the problem (I basically sent a 'force kill' message to the lamp in the event that it didn't die before the genie, which could conceivably be received by the player instead), but I circumvented that issue in either 1.01 or 1.02. This isn't saying that the bug doesn't exist, just that the amount of time I spend looking for the problem doesn't seem to have any return compared to effort I could place elsewhere and actually accomplish something. I'm sorry if this is still occurring, and if I can find any more information on why it's happening I'll fix it immediately.
I believe that this problem only happens in the Easy mode. I've seen it in Easy mode, it always ends Easy Mode at the Genie. It doesn't happen in Normal mode, or at least I haven't seen it there.
Thanks for responding. I understand why tracking down a specific bug isn't high on your list of priorities. I appreciate the attention you're giving your game, and I'm looking forward to the updates to it. I have been on normal difficulty, by the way. I really like what you're doing with the genre in the game. Except for the bug I mentioned, I've been having a lot of fun with this.
Cheers for the heads up Wes! Also sorry about, um, bugging you, ahem, about the Weapons Focus thing. Get Keith show us some more Monster Comp entries!
Not to worry! It's a small bug to fix. The tooltip won't crash in 1.05. Also, I don't know if it was mentioned here, but using weapon focus to bring a wand (which has a 0% chance of a x0 crit) above WF Level 2 gives it a 1-2% chance for a x0 crit. This has been fixed.
Just wanted to let you all know we are still hard at work on 1.05. The team has been on different schedules, but once the last art, engineering and design assets get assembled and we've had a chance to test we'll push, probably either tomorrow or first thing thursday. Here's a sneak peek at the changelog: New Features: 100 Rogues is now a Universal App! iPad users can now enjoy a seamlessly integrated menu, minimalist hud interface, and overlaid minimap. Intro cutscene now rendered in-engine. Enjoy faster game loads and smaller update file size! Menu button has been replaced by Attack button for precision targeting Trash can button added to items menu, which drops selected items (dragging items offscreen still functions as before) Intro cutscene can now be disabled via the preferences menu Balance Changes: Loot generation revamped. Slightly fewer treasure chests exist, each with significantly improved loot variation Loot now varies between Bandit Hole and Dungeon worlds appropriately Strength is no longer an upgradeable stat for the Fairy Wizard Exploits removed from genie fight Numerous tweaks to combat attributes of monsters and items New Content: 9 new consumable items added New explosion graphic Bug Fixes: Numerous stability improvements Items now stack properly in inventory Items no longer occasionally disappear from inventory Stairs Up now use correct graphic when reloading a game I'll be sure to post again as soon as we push to Apple.
Wow, all of that stuff sounds great, a real meaty update. I noticed you added some things along the lines of what I mentioned earlier (loot changes), all I can say is I am truly humbled. Time to drop the tough critic routine. Great work Wes and Co, I feel like I am seeing great returns on my $5 investment and this is just the beginning.
So this game is still quite buggy? You'd think the price would drop to still get sales despite it being buggy? Well, I've read that its buggy. I still want to pick it up, but not at $5 :\
They fixed most of the serious bugs now, and the update as mentioned above looks like it fixes the rest. It is a pricey game but there's a lot of replay value, and the developers are actively putting in new content. It may not be a $5 game now but eventually, if the developers keep their word, it will be. If you like roguelike games you'll love it, if you've never played one and are just looking for another rpg, maybe wait until there is a "lite" version or something.
100 Rogues is, in the same way that World of Warcraft and Team Fortress 2 are, very much still in Beta, yes, and I sincerely hope it is still in beta 10 years from now.
Well a price change or sale won't help the bugs, so if that is your concern you can simply wait for them to be fixed and then buy it at 5$
