Weapons with abilities as stated already exists in 100 rogues...and your post to Zelda weapons only proves Wes' point. Although you said you're not posting anymore, I'm sure you will read this.
Please, don't! I do enjoy this discussion! Granted, I think you're really really wrong, but I assume the feeling is mutual, and I'm ok with that. The discussion is what matters. At a brief glance we've got roughly the same number of items as any of those, I'd say (not that I particularly feel we really need to fall on one side or the other of a Zelda game). Just as common weapon drops go, there's dagger, sword and axe for melee, bows and wands for ranged. Link to the Past had more, it looks like, but then I'd point out the most of the games that came after it have had fewer, indicating a conscious decision that less is better in some cases. Agreed, not much yet in this first month, but we're definitely in this for the long haul. How many games releasing now will you still have reason to play in a year? We're hoping for a lot longer than that.
And to some extent we do this. Both health and energy potions both have 3 completely unrelated uses. I have only ever used an energy potion to get energy back on fewer occasions than I can count on one hand.
You guys are really going to love 1.05. The item drops system is gonna be SERIOUSLY re-worked. This will mean less items will be found overall, but a far better variety. I'm working on it now. Also we're bringing back a small-food item - a Drumstick. It'll be very common and give you a small amount of food. Should keep the wheels greased. Then, 1.06 will have the ITEM SHOP! Can you believe it? Yay! ALSO - have any of you submitted something yet for the "100 Rogues Design-A-Monster Contest"? Check out this submission from Jay Geldhof: FULL SIZE: http://i.imgur.com/97aCR.jpg Here's the instructions on how to enter: http://sites.google.com/site/onehundredrogues/home
Give Jay a prize! a) Painful pun of a name so he gets the game's tongue-in-cheek humor. b) Some interesting and I'd assume mostly doable effects. c) POWERFUL art! Among other aspects I like his almost neutral behavior. He creates hazards and cleans up potentially important drops, but if he's too much for you to deal with just walk away and odds are he'll just go back to what he was doing as he really doesn't give a crap about you (heck, you adventurers come a dime a dozen mucking up the dungeon with all of your blood and vomit). On the other hand, if you want some good bonus exp, a chance to see what he's got in his cleaning cart, and or are tired of slipping on the newly mopped floors, go for it but don't expect him to go down easy.
I remember people complaining about crashes a while back. I'm not going to look back over the 138 pages before this, so can someone answer this for me: have the crashing issues been solved finally? If not, I won't consider buying this yet. If it goes on sale, however, I might bite.
No sales in the near future, sorry. The $5 is buying a lot of content and improvements to the game for many months (years?) to come. As for crashes, they do still happen, but I don't believe it ever happens that you lose significant progress ( less than five minutes, usually ). I have found a few more memory leaks, one of them being embarrassingly huge but not often encountered (unless you check the stats page frequently), that will be fixed in 1.05. This guy: http://nodpad.com/2010/06/13/100-rogues-finally-stable-at-1-0-4/ and this guy: http://fidgit.com/archives/2010/06/100_rogues_for_the_iphone_is_f.php stake their editorial reputation when they say it no longer has *any* significant problems. That said, I'm one person in charge of kind of a lot of code (roughly 35000 sloc, currently), and things are frequently changing in various places. What I'm getting at is that, try as I might, I can't guarantee I've fixed everything or won't break something in the future. But, I can guarantee that nothing will stay broken for long.
Hmmm... back to the drawing board for my "À La Blue" tentacle monster. But then again, I think it might be best for everyone here if it permanently stayed there
Don't be discouraged. All you have to do is come up with a better concept, not better art. You can do it!
Some updates - Check this official blog post, detailing some stuff for version 1.05 (including a small shot of the iPad version!) http://www.100rogues.com/2010/06/24/design-notes-on-1-05/ Also, if any of you are redditors, here's a subreddit for 100 Rogues I just started. Fill it OUT! http://www.reddit.com/r/100rogues/ Finally, I've begun making a Dinofarm site that's a bit more presentable. Feel free to check it out if you like! http://www.dinofarm-games.com And keep the MONSTER CONTEST submissions COMING! Send them to [email protected]
i really only created an account to address this one bug that's driving me nuts but it appears that after taking the crusader's "weapon focus" and actually obtaining a level of "expertise" with a weapon, checking any details (or to throw it for that matter) on that weapon with "expertise" on it will definitely crash me every single time this essentially makes it impossible to ditch any replaced weapon you may have developed a level of expertise with, which is a total game killer for me i really like this game a lot, but because of this, i can't even take the heavy armaments without feeling in jeopardy that the game will crash playing on iphone4
Loving this game - play it all the time. What I'm really impressed with is the music soundtrack for the game. Instead of some typical howling wind or gloom and doom dungeon music, 1000R's is uplifting and catchy (though at floor 3 the tone does change a bit) !! My favorite track is on the help page, however, I didn't discover this for weeks as I never needed help but happen to have pressed it accidentally.
i have not been keeping track of the last say 50-60 pages. Any news on either of the playable rogues? And that Jani-Taur is funny and awesome lol.
