Did anyone consider stressing the crap out of the dev with your BS 2 star reveiws demanding more content and "FIXES NOWW, I DESERVE A COMPLETE GAME BECAUSE I PAYED 5 WHOLE DOLLARS AND DESERVE THE BEST!" will only lead to hastily made and ineffective patches? oh... wait, forgot, most of you only care about yourselves and the "finished game you are entitled to simply because you bought it" lighten up. I for one think ALL the bugs would have been fixed in 2 patches if everyone just reported bugs, nicely, instead of being asses about it. But no the internet is full os self resenting people, so how dare anyone expect decency. Some people haven't learned how the REAL WORLD works because they're too young, the other ones still need to move out of their mom's basement. Edit: just to clarify for the extremely thick skulled, BUYER BEWARE, you as a consumer are SUBJECT TO YOUR CHOICES, if you buy something u feel is crap, you still own it, and should man up instead of bringing that dev down when the majority of us enjoyed the product we bought Honestly what do you have to gain from this?! YOU ARE A HATER! just HATING because you have nothing better to do GET OVER YOURSELF i'm sooo sorry if you dont like 100 rogues, please feel free to slander it and clog the thread with useless posts.
I got this game on day one and stopped playing quickly because of the crashes. I followed the thread from afar and didn't want to play the new builds which seemed as bad as the first one. I decided that I should give it a try this morning and the changes are great. I just had three session with the game, never got past level 3 beacause I suck, but I must say I haven't seen any of the mentionned bugs and the game never crashed on my iphone 3G, not rebooted for 2 days. It may not be perfect yet, but grats to the dev for a some very quick and efficient fixing. Glad I payed this game full price on day 1!
Speaking about my own experience with 100R, i can say that i play with it every day, even if for some fast game sessions, and i never had crashes. My only complaint, that is a well known one by devs and others, is a bug that sometimes, in a random way, makes impossible to get back to the main menu once i've posted on the scoreboard because the button with that function simply doesn't work, and so i got to restart the app. That's the one and only major bug i have during play, But as i said before, this is my own experience.
I know it has already been discussed here, and the devs have made their point very clearly, but I add my vote to a black background on the icon. This is ruining my Home screen.
what does anybody have to gain from posting on a message board? throwing all this accolade on this game gives roguelikes a bad name. i don't want for people to write off roguelikes, thinking this game is a good one.
so any criticism of the game is automatically trolling? gotcha who said anything about it being traditional, i said it wasn't very good, not that it doesn't conform to some mold set 30 years before it.
Your posts are contradictive, the reason your criticism is trolling is because of your demeanor and how its obvious you have no interest in this game, just its flaws. You consider 100 rogues "frustrating" because of how often you die, yet its a feature of the game, so hating on fundamentals isnt very constructive. I dont like dress up games, but i dont go around posting "This game sucks because all you do is dress people up, add more explosions". The point of this thread s supposed to be info on 100Rogues, not your taste in games. You couldnt pay me to care about your opinion, and if you keep trolling i doubt the devs ever will either.
@tetrisgrammaton So you think 100R is not a good game, but to be fair to the game, can you further elaborate on why it lacks strategic elements, as well as "interesting enemies" and randomization? I don't quite get that part. Of course you can opt not to, but then people won't really understand why, which is already evident from initial reactions. So that's entirely up to you. Also, it wouldn't really matter as to whether or not the people who like this game are seasoned players, dungeon crawler enthusiasts, and what not. That is irrelevant, imo. Just a point I want to stress out.
almost all posts in this thread is nothing new. but something new now. personally i would like developers to optimize power drain and only then add new stuff and fix minor bugs.
Like there's any honor the roguelike genre has to besmirch? Anyway, without the other two classes I thought this was a bit of an expensive purchase. Still I couldn't wait any longer after 1.03 came out, so I tossed a fiver at them. Played it for several hours and have had zero crashes. I'm not new to Roguelikes and it hasn't been that bad getting to the Genie at least. Sometimes I'm geared up enough, sometimes I'm not - but that's how it goes. A few minor item and tile interaction issues, but it has been rare. I think after item shops and the other two classes are in that this will be well worth the asking price.
@smirnoffsky my biggest problem with the game is that i just don't have much fun playing it. truthfully, i can't comment on the latter part of the game, because of a bug i encountered repeatedly. i realize 1.3 is out, but i haven't been in the mood for boredom. my biggest problem with it is the skill tree, i think. i realize this is the part of the game that is supposed to be a concession to new players, but it makes the game feel repetitive. at first, it was an interesting diversion, but once i figured out what skills suited me best, i always branched out the same way. i wish most of these skills would have been turned into items and then scattered randomly throughout the dungeon. it would give variety to each play session, and force me to survive with what i had. interesting enemies... the enemies here are moving in the right direction, but i dont think they are there yet. most enemies have a secondary skill other than attack, this is good. i don't know, i'm not designing the game, but i'd like to see them with more status effects to start off... paralysis, charm, theft, eat your food, rust, .. and even some off the wall type stuff. both of these play into my last criticism of general strategy. seems most the time the best line of action is to stand in a hallway and hack the endless barrage of enemies. some better items could help out, staffs of switching places, haste, knock an enemy across the screen, tile traps, traps you can set up for enemies, something. just my thoughts on the game, i didn't mean to blindly criticize.
"but once i figured out what skills suited me best, i always branched out the same way. i wish most of these skills would have been turned into items and then scattered randomly throughout the dungeon." Word. Great idea, the best for a very long time here.
I like the game and feel I've gotten my money's worth. However, since more content is planned, I feel that what would most help the game is more complexity. I understand that the developers see this as an arcade roguelike and don't want to overwhelm players with tons of options, but even arcade roguelikes like Shiren have a lot of variables. The reason people love roguelikes so much is that it's a genre that's built to consistently dole out surprises. I'd love to see things like monsters with nasty status effects, items to counteract those status effects, traps, random events that can hurt or harm you (for example, the Monster Houses in Shiren), rare monster types, super-rare items, hidden pathways. NPCs? I like what I've seen of the world of 100 Rogues. NPCs would be a great way to fill it in and give the game some flavor. Again, I like what I've played of 100 Rogues and it's tied with Hook Champ as my favorite iPhone game. But I think it can be even better with more tricks up its sleeve!
You know what, I too have focused on one particular pattern in the skill tree - and one which works best for me, at least for now. But I guess it comes down to personal preference. I'm perfectly happy with how the skill tree works, but I do like your idea of turning the skills into items. I think that would benefit the game a lot. I'm thinking the skills could maybe come in books that you can purchase or loot. As for the rest of your ideas, I think the devs are kinda conservative when it comes more diversified items, but I sure do hope they consider implementing at least some of those you mentioned. They're quite active here, so who knows! The way I see things right now, the game is still good in terms of the gaming experience as a whole, despite the bugs, and has potential to be great. A potential that can be unlocked by features such as those you that mentioned, and with less bugs of course - which the devs are already working hard to minimize. But just like you, that's only my personal opinion
Yeah that would really be great! The devs look like people who are open to suggestions, so let's wait and see how the game works out. I'm really excited about the new character types and other goodies
There are no concessions to new players in 100 Rogues, and the skill tree is absolutely not one of them. We played with several ideas for how to allow players to access skills, and went for this one, for the following reason: Each game, players can try a different "approach", or kit, and some skills (like Magic Crystals) are hard for some players to get at all. We agree, and we are working on it.
There is no need for a different approach once you find out the skills that work best, which is what they are complaining about.
