Another minor bug... Sometimes after you kill the Golden Genie, the potions that are spawned can overflow and go through the wall in the bottom right corner. You can then walk through those spots to pick up your potions. I haven't seen this happen anywhere else in that level of the game.
I don't know why some of you guys *complain* about bugs... holding it ransom for *2* stars etc. doesn't help anything. Report the bugs and be helpful to the developers, be patient and give them useful, targeted feedback so that they can improve the game and create a rock solid product in the end. If you enjoy the game and have high hopes for it, rate it appropriately!
Thanks for the feedback on 1.0.3 From what I gather, the crashes have been reduced for most (although some still reporting crashes on 1.0.3) but there are still some rather nasty bugs in this release. Things like a 20ac buff wearing off and reducing your ac by 40 is stuff that should be squashed in alpha / beta phase. To all the other rogue devs who are in this thread, please keep in mind that sites like these exist mainly for the public and for app users to be aware of stuff. I fully expect people to display their dissatisfaction if they are unhappy as this will help me make an educated decision. Yes, the devs can use sites like these to get info and feedback, but that is NOT their primary raison d'etre. So yes it actually does help something when people leave 2 star reviews and say the game is bug ridden. It helps me not encourage this sort of behavior in the software development world. As of now, sadly, I'm going to keep waiting, but I have not given hope. I wish the developers good luck, and hope this has been a lesson for the future: test your product and the final release will be better received. The "release first, patch later" thing leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
Just played a couple - well not quite - games of the new version. First time I thought wow what a great improvement. I was even getting lucky on the food drops and stuff. I got deeper than I ever had before. So I died and started a new game. It was frozen and I noticed this: No items, no HP, no MP! I had to reset my itouch to get out of that, but oddly enough it allowed me to take the screenshot!
I can see why it froze... your hp and mp were trying to divide by zero. that's a big no-no, like crossing the streams.
It's okay to criticize the game and its developers, problem is this thread is getting flooded by the same old stuff that has already been addressed and noted countless times. I'm assuming you haven't read the dozens of pages containing the same issues you have just raised, and I don't expect you to do so, but I think what some people here are saying is that threatening and complaining about the same things over and over is somewhat limiting the quality of the posts here, diverting people's attention from more constructive discussions. It's just not helping. Once a point has been made, and the "two stars" already rated, it would be best to move on to the next issue
I've spent 20-30 minutes reading through this thread, if not more. Every version revision, I come in and ask people for some impressions on the patch. Keep in mind that new people will post here after having tried the game and complain about the bugs. Guaranteed most of them will not bother to read 100+ thread pages. So it's inevitable that you'll see the same complaint over and over again, specially if the patches haven't resolved issues people were expecting. However, I do agree with you, if the same person is posting the same thing over and over again, well, that is a different story.
No Paul, as a paying customer I have to disagree. I expect a single thing from an iPhone game: it should run stable. How often a skeleton spawn, how much damage a dagger does or whatever is just personal preference... I can decide if I like this or that but it - at least - has to run properly. But playing a game that crashes, looses progess of a whole floor or the progess of a whole game is not acceptable. It is NOT my job to come here, and "be helpful, be patient and give them useful, targeted feedback". That is the job of the dev (and their beta testers if they have any). And in the case of 100 Rogues the game was so bug loaded (and still is to some degree) that it is not believable that the devs did not know anything about it before the release. So they obviously did not care (for whatever reason) to fix the stuff first and accept that their customers get a game in that shape. So as a customer it is my right to express my concern with a half-baked game, that I payed for, by a negative rating in iTunes. I actually hope that this will show to these devs as well as other that such a behaviour/attitude is not the way to go... Actually, what is the alternative? Should I rate the game very good even though I know of all the (sometimes game breaking) bugs? That would be absurd and misleading for new customers. I know that the updates already fixed some of the stuff but on my iPhone 3G it still runs more or less poorly. So from this perspective it seems quite strange to me that you don't understand why some of us complain about bugs. And just for the records, everyone here not only complains but also describes the bugs that came up. So I honestly don't see your point. By the way, I am playing Fargoal for a long time know and never experienced something like that. And this exactly shows me that one can do way better than we have to experience here.
On the flip side to that, one can do way worse and pay more as well. You do know that bugs like those found in this game have been around in all video games for years. I will use this example since it is one of the most recent: Red Dead Redemption for the consoles was released at $60 and has many game crashing bugs as well as a plethora of other bugs that cause the game data to be corrupted or the game to be restarted. I know it isn't right, but the fact is that these devs are trying to fix the problems. They aslo stated very early in this thread that they were forced to release the game early and were aware of the bugs. As apposed to some devs who release the game and don't even care, which also happens. Your opinion the matter isn't wrong, but you are trying to act like 100 Rogues is an exclusive problem. Fargoal even had bugs when it was released that caused game data to be corrupted as well.
Ouch that is crappy to hear about Red Dead Redemption. I've been debating between RDR and Alan Wake since they came out and I was going to go for RDR but this kind of turns me off. I'm also shocked since I hear nothing but glowing reviews for the game. In regards to 100 Rogues, I can admit that I didn't buy the game. I'm not a huge rogue fan so I don't mind waiting until more of the bugs are worked out at which point I'm sure I'll cave and get it. I think one of the promising things that really shows is the developers are hear and they are listening. They are updating the fans and customers and working to fix the issues with their game. Could be worse, you could have paid $5 for a game that was buggy and never got updated or you could have paid $5 for Astro Ranch when it was released then got screwed when the Premium version came out which no one seems to be able to upgrade to for free as the devs. indicated.
To be fair to TAG games, I actually managed to upgrade without a problem. But it seems that I was in the minority.
Off topic, but with RDR, YMMV. I've played the literal hell out of this game, and haven't seen a single glitch/bug. I mean, typical GTA/Rockstar stuff happens (like NPC crowd people standing on chairs/etc), but certainly nothing that has made the game anything close to "unplayable" (single or multiplayer). It's an absolutely great game, and I wouldn't hesitate in the least to highly recommend it. As for 100 Rogues, I can see both sides of the argument here. I haven't bought it yet, but have been constantly monitoring the thread. While I do love and enjoy my roguelikes, I get frustrated with bugs/crashes very very quickly. I'll personally be waiting until a bigger patch, or I hear that most of the bugs have been taken care of.
I'm glad to hear. It's not like I'm trying to kick them when they're down it is just the approach they are taking towards the whole thing. They said they would be giving out promo codes for people who couldn't update to the premium but this would only apply to US customers anyway and it doesn't look like they even sent them out yet. Good to hear. Still trying to decide between the two but I think I'll end up getting RDR. The only sucky thing is I don't play online anymore on my 360 so I hope the single player game is good. Also regarding 100 Rogues, I think I will really enjoy the game once I do cave and buy it. I really need to start playing through all these games I have though before I start buying new ones.
Inventory still really wonky I want to like this game - I really do! In fact, there are aspects of it that, once the bazillion bugs are worked out, will probably make it one of my favorite games. For example, the combat (combined with the skill tree) is actually very good, imo. But, there's one thing that hasn't been addressed that I just can't believe, and it's a game-wrecker for me - inventory management. No, I'm not referring to the various stacking bugs people have reported. (see above) I'm referring to the inability to have my character DROP an item from inventory. Really? Really? The ONLY way to get an item out of my inventory is to use it as a weapon in combat? This wouldn't bother me so much if combat were easy, but considering that every move counts in combat, this is simply ridiculous. Particularly considering that I can do much more damage with a teleport/backstab than I'll ever do by throwing a shield. What's more, If I decide that I no longer want to carry 20 arrows around, I shouldn't have to throw them one-at-a-time. Also, if my character is standing on a space with an item, I have no choice but to pick it up if I want to use one of my character's abilities, because tapping on my character picks up the object BEFORE it brings up my ability menu. In other words, I can't teleport away from the horrible monster that's killing me without picking up some rocks (that I don't actually want) first. Both of these game mechanics may in fact be conscious design decisions on the part of the game designers, but the simple fact is, they defy logic and reason. Are you going to tell me that Gandalf can't fight the Balrog without picking up whatever is lying on the ground next to his feet first? Are you going to tell me that Aragorn can't let go of a suit of armor without throwing it at someone? What special world do the developers live in where the only way to put something down is to throw it at an enemy? For me, it doesn't really matter how many bugs get fixed or features get added if these simple issues aren't addressed. Inventory management is, simply put, part of the genre, and my options as a player in this area have to actually make sense.
You can remove items from your inventory without taking a turn by dragging them out of the inventory box.
I'd love for the inventory system to get some tweaks, especially when it comes to arrows, knives and rocks. Is there a way to combine them into bundles?
Fingergaming Review They seem to like it (as do I) - keep the good publicity flowing. Sure, I've had my game crash a few times on me, but I just boot the game right back. Keep up the good work! http://fingergaming.com/2010/05/27/review-100-rogues/
I'm about 20 hours in RDR and while I do enjoy the game, I've experienced quite a few bugs that SHOULD NOT have ended up in a retail release. It has soured my experience quite a bit, and while my user review may mean jack sh!t in the scope of things, I'm not giving this game higher than 80% based on these bugs I experienced alone. Stuff like guys being trapped in cabins, able to shoot me, but I can't hit them (thus killing my NPC ally who is too stupid to find cover), or my getaway wagon being stuck in the ground, forcing me to restart the entire mission I was on. Or other thing such as people being stuck in the ground up to their heads, my horse spawning in the middle of a house, even complete crashes where I had to reboot my 360 if I failed a mission a certain way, etc. Several more that I won't bother to mention. I was laughing with my gf because I couldn't get through a given hour of playtime without experiencing a severe / obvious glitch. Honestly, I'm a little perplexed at the 95 average RDR received, when these kinds of bugs are apparently in the same damn version of the game I'm playing that these reviewers used. I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but something stinks. Back on topic, the 100 rogue devs seem to be putting in OT fixing the bugs, and I'm sure by the next few versions it will be a great addition to the roguelikes on this platform. I'm patient.
I'm about 40 hours in and, honestly, I've never seen any of the things you mentioned. Never crashed on me, never any glitches more major than NPCs standing on chairs. I'd easily give RDR a 95 at this point.
