Nop, it has been stated previously that (at least for now) the game only has 10 levels. I've played like 10 times so far and I haven't been able to go past level 6, so it might take a while :p

Really? I missed that. I've made it to level 7.

I think the devs want to introduce an endless mode at some point, but for now it looks like the game ends after you defeat Satan (although as far as I know, no one has actually managed to kill him yet).

I think there is on slightly mis-leading loading screen text that says something like "Every 5 levels there is a boss stage", when there are only 10 levels and the 10th is the final boss... I dunno, it made me think the game would be longer than 10 levels anyway.

Probably to keep the amount of complaints and 1-star reviews lower. I'd love having that kind of risky decision... 9th floor, low heath, nothing but a bubbly potion, what to do?!

@MidianGTX and Olio : sorry I came across the way I did; I was too quick to make labels. I don't want the game to change a lot either and I too enjoy the traditional challenges of Rogue-likes. It's just that I'd like more people (which includes some of my own friends) to get into this genre and this game; and if an easier mode can help suck them in, maybe they'll try the harder mode next. It's why I made those suggestions.

    A d pad won't cure this problem.

I find no problems with the controls. They have been tailored to the device. It is a perfect match. I find I can even walk for long spurts without even having to tap tap tap.

I can promise you if there was a d-pad you would find false moves far higher than 1%. Read through the game threads that do utilize a d-pad - read those comments - fix the d-pad (in one form of complaint or another) up the whazoo. Work with the game and I am sure you will find it perfect.

Moral - you can't please everyone and devs shouldn't try. This is the way they envisioned their game and many people like it.

The devs mentioned adding a shoot button to the UI somehow, I'm guessing this is to ensure you can shoot at distant enemies without accidentally taking a step forward, but how would it work?

It could simply shoot at the nearest enemy, but that'd put a huge limit on how tactical we can be. They could add another button which highlighted each enemy square in turn, so you can select where to shoot before pressing fire... but that would take up more screen space.

The best solution I can think of is basically what tetris said, to make the shoot button a switch. When pressed it stays pressed until you tap it a second time to release it. While it's pressed down you can't move, so tapping the screen anywhere other than an enemy won't have an effect. Tapping an enemy obviously attacks. You might occasionally hit the wrong enemy if there are two right next to each other, but it'd be much less of a problem than accidentally taking steps is.

They've been discussed, and are on the horizon. Hidden items require extra all sorts of extra engineering support, and it couldn't come together in time for first release, unfortunately. Our post-release schedule is definitely not set in stone, but a rough estimate might be: after the shopkeeper, but before our first new class and / or world.

This is the thing exactly about food - if you explore the entire floor before moving on you WILL get hungry earlier than level 5. I have found exits immediately but have chosen to explore the floor instead. Trying to level up my character. I have made the HP sacrifice by eating rotten food when needed. But I do this because I like to explore a game rather than rush through it.

I read a suggestion about possibly being able to eat the corpses of some of the things you kill as food. In a game that is so dependent on non-existent food drops I think that is a good one.

But yes I tried to go as far as I could without exploring the level and made it much further than 5 without even a you are getting hungry prompt. But I had like 3 battles along the way. Who wants that? And then to reach the end and be at level 1 or 2? Who wants that? No chests opened? Who wants that?

The point is valid that if you want to explore the entire level and not rush through the game you need more food. Yes the developers have said they are fixing that issue, but does that mean it is not ok to discuss it or make suggestions about it anymore?

Wow can't anyone see a general statement for what it is? GENERAL? That was the quote I chose to respond to the control questions about because it was the last one posted. Sure he also said a d-pad wouldn't help but others said add a d-pad.

Just never mind, I guess in this thread it's rip at every word someone says in the name of helpfulness. Stop being so puff out your chests and be a little more receptive to comments without making a big stink.

I guess no one cares about opinions except their own. What a wonderful world that would be.

Yay! It definitely sounds awesome :p.

Btw, since you're here, is there any way to kill the white skeletons so that they dont resurrect 3 times before going for good (and I'm pretty sure they give no apparent exp but am yet to confirm)?

And will the shopkeeper sell weapons (but w/o knowing how good they are or what + they have)? Will you be able to sell your loot to it?

And what triggers crusader's god finger?

Apologies for being late in the conversation...

As a long time roguelike lover (nethack on 8086 was the start) I can certainly see the appeal of the developers making options to allow more casual gamers to enjoy the same game.

I don't want to label myself as a hardcore gamer, but I spend lots of time playing these kind of games and have been for well over 20 years. I know I saw someone say they'd be tempted to use the easier options, well with all due respect, that's not really anyone else's problem. I have no problems skipping right over the easy difficulties because for me, challenge is essential in these games, but I understand that not everyone plays games like I do. Different strokes, right?

So, if these devs can revive a dying genre (at least in North America) and make it accessible to encourage sales, thus being able to improve and innovate it, then I'm all for it, 100%.

BTW if any of you enjoy PC gaming, check out Din's Curse. It's my new favorite addiction, an indie game that blends diablo and roguelike mechanics together really well. Too well, as my swollen bloodshot eyes are reminding me now.

There is! And it's thematic, to boot.

As long as you are fighting bravely and wisely, God will help you out when your need is greatest. If he feels like it.

I still can't believe how much attention the food system is getting. I've played a huge number of games and have never died to hunger, not even once-- particularly if the game makes it past the genie.

I have a feeling people are using the other exploits mentioned herein to extend their survivability and are then being caught out by the hunger penalties. And then coming here to cry foul about the sparsity of food in the game.

Sure, that may not be the case for every occasion, but in playing the game I fully expect at least at one stage to starve to death. It just hasn't happened yet, but it's still an essential component to balance floor grinding.

Take the randomness out of a dungeon crawler and you lose the unique story told differently each time you play the game: the story of how you got as far as you did.

I think I might have done this during one of the challenges... is it stupidly simple?

If you were making a general statement and weren't referring to his post at all, then why quote anything at all?

Also, over-react much? I just found it slightly amusing that you were insisting a d-pad is a terrible idea when, in essence, the whole screen already acts as a large invisible d-pad.

Oh, and it's terribly ironic that you were complaining about people being unreceptive to comment and making a 'big stink'...

Anyone complaining about food should really go re-watch Caddyshack.

"I want a hamburger... No a hot dog... No a hamburger..."

"YOU'LL GET NOTHING AND LIKE IT!!!"
