Nice idea! I'm a musician, but I think anyone with some dj experience and basic knowledge of some software (=without necessarily being a musician) could (and should) give it a try! Odds are I wont have the time to participate, but I hope I will! Best of luck to every1
Agreed. As for the music contest, I wonder if I can put something together with Beatmaker... I will try to see if I can do something, as I've been trying to familiarize myself with that app and Thumbjam to make some (very amateur) music.
I wanted to quote some people but those were about 6 pages back. Is this patch just a band aid? Yes and no. The exact changes that will show up on iTunes are: New Challenge Mode Music Shields now work Evil Rats can now be safely killed Death music no longer loops when resurrecting as the Wizard Invisible monsters no longer appear occasionally when wandering around a stage for an extended period of time Numerous stability fixes. By 'Numerous stability fixes' I mean that a synchronization issue with torch animations has been resolved that would occasionally result in crashes for seemingly no reason at all. Occasionally meaning sometimes not once in 4 or 5 hours of play, sometimes 3 times in 10 minutes. It makes it quite a pain to verify a fix a problem like that, but I have finally both fixed it and safeguarded against it if it can be triggered another way I haven't thought of, yet. Second, I have reduced one of our 1024x1024 spritesheets down to about 2 256x256s and a few 128x128s, cutting down 4 megabytes of memory previously occupied by doors and stairs to something closer to 0.8 megabytes. Silver bullet? Probably not, but extra headroom means additional playtime.
You could have quoted me. It's alright. I'm looking forward to hearing how the game plays after the update. If it seems to clear up some of the issues, then I'm definitely in. I've got confidence that you guys will continue to improve the game in the future.
Wes, that's certainly a step in the right direction! Now that I've caught up a bit in the office (lot going on yesterday) I'll be trying to get in touch soon, maybe around 9AM EST if you're ready? Have some extra coffee, it helps... speaking of which I'm going back for another cup now
For anyone undecided on this game, let me say that with all the bugs and everything, this is still a beautiful and fun game. If you love roguelike games this is a must. I really love it and recommend it. The devs are very active on this thread, CommanderData gave some insight how to play with the bugs and it works. Now they are patching the big problems and it will we playable soon, so I hope. What I am saying is that this is a beauty, please don't trash it because it has some bugs. The devs are taken care of it.
Keith, I'll be chatting with Wes today... I'm sure that there will be some architecture changes required to make better use of the limited space. Taking steps to consolidate or minimize the size of sprite sheets can help, but there's probably some more substantial slash & burn that will end up happening here too. As for your design, I do really like the character and monster designs, music, and the sprite-work is excellent too. Nice to see a unique, humorous take on the roguelike genre, rather than rip off Tolkien or some other established world again. Have to say, you guys are lucky to have multiple people on this project to help each other out! For Spirit Hunter Mineko I'm the designer, programmer, art director, and "touch up" artist all in one! Sometimes it's great to have complete control over a project (I'm creating a unique world design too), but mostly it's tiring
Just bought it! As soon as possible i'll try it and i'll post a comment on iTunes Store (Italy) and maybe some personal considerations here on the forum (if you are interested in that of course!)
Hey, I'm the Sword of Fargoal guy! Yeah, 100 Rogues is a different game, and that's awesome. There are bugs, but it's obviously this is just some temporary growing pains. What I love about this game so far is the cool, irreverent vibe it exudes. Really really fun. And it is a very cool and strategical sort of gameplay. Also, it's weird but it almost feels kind of like a Wild Arms roguelike to me, heh... and my wife and I really enjoyed Wild Arms back in the day on our Playstation. So people, buy the game if you're on the fence. I've quite enjoyed the time I've spent with the game so far, and look forward to the fixes and updates coming down the pipe. I just wish I had more time to play, heh.
Hey Paul - aren't you supposed to work on the next SoF update instead of playing 100 Rogues all day and night?
As a massive fan of Rogue Touch, Sword of Fargoal and Cavern, I'm going to have to wait on this one until the bugs are ironed out. It is nice however to see yet another take on this genre and my purchase is guaranteed, but I'm not good at dealing with random crashes (I'll leave that to my PC games) so I'll be patient. I also enjoy how the roguelike developers stick together, it's neat
I agree. The game is a real beauty. I especially love the sprite art and music... it stays true to the classic 16-bit spirit! The game looks very classy because of this. The gameplay itself is in a class of its own. Quite a rarity. Ahh.. another one to add to my collection RT has always been in my third page! To the devs: I just wanna suggest adding some kinda "clicking" sound fx when pressing the "@" and "skip" buttons... and any buttons for that matter. It would be great if the UI could be as tangible as possible... kinda adds to the gaming experience as a whole, at least for me that is! Also, I agree with the smoother screen scrolling or faster frame rate suggestion. Sometimes when you continuously move/run around the dungeon, I notice a bit of choppiness in my iPhone 3G
Anyone pick up some interesting stuff?? My current Crusader (probably soon to die) has found a Wand of Slow and a +3 Bow of Stopping. Hopefully i find some arrows soon to enjoy the latter I also noticed my wizard high score got hammered down, as it should. Edit: Yup, died. Maybe next time!
highscores are not registered at all. anyway, increasing the speed of some actions, like these ninja with ranged weapons could improve the gameplay experience, because if there are many of such ninjas it takes some time to battle them.
I'm definitely going to buy it once the update comes out. Just don't drop the price for a while! I hate that and this game sounds like it's easily worth the 5 beans.
