Mmm, as they said, most of the crash will be fixed on the patch, but I don't know if this will reduce the RAM used too, let's wait for their responses, but I'm sure it'll be a nice patch!

P.S YOUR GAME IS FREAKIN' FANTASTIC!!!

    CzarCastic,
This game is going to continue to grow in content and depth. While that's happening, the code will also only improve. What's important to us right now is that the game is stable and playable. Optimizing is an ongoing process for us, but rest-assured, when the complete game is out with all monsters, player characters and content, so will be optimization. (you can check with wes for verification on that)

The robots are magic immune and are [supposed to] only have a finite number of rockets (not that you'd outlive his payload)

You can kill him with throwing knives, arrows, exploding energy potions, or just a good ole' fashioned melee weapon. if you get close to one, he'll whack you with his grenade launcher, but at least he won't be firing them!

Also, there's no shame in running away if you're ill-equipped to take on a fully-armed and operational robot-bandit-grenadier.

That explains a lot, Either way I was having a fun time making them fire the rocket, then luring them in and teleporting away from them, 18 dmg to them, 0 to me :p.

Unfortunately my game crashed and I restarted inside a wall, and due to what everything is saying, well, pretty much I can't continue my game :( (crashed when the game loads after continue). I was doing so well... let's hope the update fixes everything :p.

I could run through just about every superlative in the book, but let me just say this: I've been playing games for over 20 years. Off the top of my head I could think of maybe a half dozen titles during that time which actually genuinely thrilled me and made me feel like I was doing something more than a destraction, more than just enjoyably passing the time. Not because of graphical thrills but simply because of the way in which various game design elements appear to have come together to make something much more than the sum of their parts. Because intuitively, effortlessly, I find myself drawn into thinking within the boundaries of the game world, and far from feeling limited or constrained, I actually feel like I have been given the freedom to experiment and explore within these boundaries, and to be appropriately rewarded (or punished) for the decisions I make. This game would be on that list.

It isn't a fundamental re-writing of the code or anything, but there were a few glaring issues that were causing the majority of your crashes and they have been patched.

Wes said that he and our publisher George tested the game out for 3 hours straight with the new build and had no crashes.

Short story is, you should have a MUCH better experience overall. Wes can speak more on the details of the patch, however.

The trick to defeating Robots is to stay the hell away from hallways! They were actually designed to be an anti-hallway monster, and their rockets are how they accomplish this. In an open space, the explosion will detonate 9 tiles in a square, but if it goes off in a hallway, it will still detonate 9 tiles, filling the hallway (like BomberMan). As long as you're out of hallways, they shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If you're a Fairy Wizard, I suggest using throwing knives, Crystal Ball, or tele-stabbing the robot. Teleport is also good for evading the explosion.

Sorry about that, it's bound to happen with the current setup. What will fix this is the following two features which should go in very soon:

    1. The Item Shop & Gold Drops - The item shop will regularly stock food, so you can always get some there

    2. "Cook" monster - This is an italian-looking cook who runs around flailing his arms wildly. He has no attack and his only AI command is "run away from the player". If you can catch him, and kill him, he drops Roasted Food.

Until these are implemented here is my advice: KEEP MOVING! Don't spend any more time on one level than you have to. Find all the chests (they only appear in rooms), and move on. Also, there is always a Roasted Food drop in the Genie's level. Generally, using this advice, I never starve.

Oh also, obviously, don't eat food until you're down to the last hunger warning.

Also, Gabrien, your comment was so wonderful, it really means a lot to hear things like that. Thank you.

Out of curiosity, is this your first roguelike? I remember feeling that way the first time I stumbled upon NetHack... good times indeed.

Actually, no. In fact, ironically, NetHack is the only one I can think of (on the app store) that I haven't yet tried. I take it I should do so ASAP? :) Which is the one to get out of NetHack and iNetHack?

I've played Rogue Touch, Fargoal, and Cavern fairly extensively. All good games but 100 Rogues transcends them effortlessly in my opinion.

iNethack is pretty good, Commander Data also helped on that one.

Ahhh NetHack, good times! It was my first Roguelike, and what made me fall in love with the game was when I got cursed with a ball and chain, and I fell down in a pit and got killed by the ball and chain falling on me. PRICELESS

Back to 100 Rogues. I own every Roguelike for the iphone and this one is my favorite! Just like someone else has mentioned; it's just like the Chunsoft Roguelikes, and those are my favorite.

I'm looking forward to the content updates! :D

In my opinion it's still Sword of Fargoal which is out of this league.
This is THE perfect game, personally, and they are still improving it.
I just could play it 24/7, that much I love it.

But, besides calling themselves roguelikes, I think, there are world between 100 Rogues and Fargoal. To me, they are 2 completely different games. 100 rogues is a game for short, very strategic session with a huge arcade feel to it (almost feels more like a turn based strategy game), Fargoal is a game about diving deep, spending a lot of time, exploring MASSIVE dungeons... like reading a heavy fantasy book.

So, I really think, they are hard to compare.

We couldn't agree more! What you just described is exactly what we went for: to take a roguelike and put the focus on gameplay and tactics rather than sheer mass. Depth can be achieved in many ways. We decided that, for example, a small number of weapons with clearly defined roles provides for a different kind of depth than a buttload of weapons with many similar/identical functions. Also, we want the first sword you get to still be useful at the end of your game so you don't end up with a +100 sword and 99 pieces of obsolete junk.

I personally prefer when core design and mechanics provide the depth and possibilities rather than content. However, 100 Rogues will be at least doubling in content before we're through!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate a developer response to my "food" issues.

Hot diggety, but I am loving this game!

Sorry about the "off-topic," but hopefully I can just get a quick answer and move on. Just downloaded iNetHack, and for some reason all graphics appear as "keyboard signs" instead of graphical images in the screenshots. For example, my character appears as: "@" I'm thinking there must be a toggle button but after 10-15 minutes of wading through menus, for the life of me I cannot figure it out. Anyone able to help?

    Thanks in advance.

    Haha, great :)
And now look at the icon of 100 Rogues.
You are experiencing the true retro feel of the originals ;)

Good thing you chose iNetHack, the plain old "NetHack"... suffice to say, it's bad.

That's ASCII! It's how NetHack was (and still is) played, with each letter or number or sign representing something different. Personally, I still like ASCII as it really allows your imagination to run wild with monster designs, but if you can't get used to it (and I wouldn't blame you), head to the settings app in the main screen and change the tileset in the iNetHack entry.

Yeah, I get it, but are you saying there's no way to switch to graphical icons? :p I guess I could get used to it, just assumed there was because of the screenshots in the app description?

The tile graphics switch in iNethack is not in the app but in the main settings of your ipod touch. Exit the app, go to Settings icon on your home page of your idevice, scroll down until you see the game icon, click on that and you should be able to access the various setting options for it. :)
