The new teleport tiles work without a glitch! haven't gone too far in rogue mode yet~ But the movement which was soooo smooth in the last update is now gone again running/moving continuously isn't as smooth as before. It stutters alot Please fix it! Last update was so enjoyable!
Movement was the next top priority for me, being another thing I guessed initially as to the "right" way to do it (and seem to have guessed wrong). I'm shocked to hear that you think 2.6 is worse than 2.5, though; everything I worked on was meant to alleviate performance issues experienced while moving, despite not touching the movement code itself (e.g. Spawning offscreen monsters quicker, the minimap, etc)
No i don't think 2.6 is worse than 2.5, only that the movement isn't smooth which makes it less enjoyable! And Rogue mode is pretty fun!
Keep up the great work wes! Looks good... rogue mode made me want to rage kill my phone though. FROM RATS!
Announcement: 100 Rogues will be introducing several new "Monster Classes" - playable versions of monsters, with their own (mostly) unique skill trees!
First of which: Tourist! Tales of adventure have brought many tourists to Mine Town's prophetic dungeons. These untrained holidaymakers have little combat skill apart from a proficiency with throwing whatever's at hand, a skill gained from surviving many a bar fight. Armed with a camera, mobile phone, and a piteously polite gusto, see if you can collect bring the ultimate souvenir back to your sweetheart: the corpse of the Last Wild Satan!
Oh, also, we haven't mentioned yet that, at the moment, we are completely intent on giving away this first class for FREE. Future monster classes may or may not be. It's less a question of the value of one class over another, and more a question of how much we are able to develop for free without sending anyone into a poor house.
2.7 has shipped! Alongside various performance improvements / bug fixes for things like purify disappearing or using Searing Blade on Genie / Satan, we will have.... 2 New Player Classes! Tourist, as promised, is 100% free. The class is focused on being a dungeon-diving class, meaning the goal of combat is opportunistically choosing combat encounters highly selectively and avoiding directly engaging opponents whenever possible. Also! Rogue-Bot! Similar to Robots, only with lots more things blowing up. Rogue-Bot will be a $0.99 IAP. More information on this guy will be coming next week on our website (with a link here, to be sure). First image: http://www.100rogues.com/2011/04/03/a-monster-class-sneak-preview/
Sweet sounds like a great update. I'll buy the new class to support the dev's , they deserve it for doing an amazing job on this game and its always being updated.
Can anyone give me pointers on beating the Pope guy with the fairy? [possible spoilers] As far as I can tell, his armor goes up for each acolyte standing on one of those corner tiles. I can keep at most maybe 2 of the tiles clear, but at that point I barely do any damage, plus I have to keep clearing off the tiles... Thanks.
The fight was balanced anticipating that you'd only really be able to keep 1-2 of the tiles clear at any time. That boss has roughly as much health as the Genie, but is obviously better protected. Then again, you have much more damage-dealing potential by that point, so it all sort of evens out to take about as much effort as the genie fight, once you've gotten a good strategy down. Note: All bosses have a degree of AoE resistance, too, which makes Magic Crystals a less viable strategy. I personally just use a wand and patience to get the job done. Crystal Balls for support help significantly, as can confusing Skeleton Archers or judicious application of healing. Crystal Caltrops can easily be underestimated in their effectiveness at killing / keeping at bay white Skeletons, as well. There are many, many strategies discussed for playing an effective Wizard over on the 100Rogues.com forums, if you're interested.
Just IAP subsequent classes. Any revenue is good revenue, right? You've provided plenty of free content already PS, Awesome idea!
We've always said we want to give away as much content for free as possible, and as a result a lot of people were disappointed with the Skellyman being IAP. So, hopefully the Tourist gives everyone something new to play with and enjoy, and hopefully we can continue to provide free classes periodically.
The Skelly scenario was more that it was unexpectedly IAP. I admit i was one of the grumblers about that, but I still bought the class. How can i expected you guys to keep updating on nothing but gruel?
I remember the hype around the Skelly update then suddenly there was IAP with absolutely no prior indication.
That and the original price of the app being $5 - there was some faith placed in that we were paying a premium for a game that had much more (free) content on the way. I haven't payed much attention, but did the developer even give out prizes for their design a monster contest? Love the game, but the IAP did leave a sour taste in my mouth.
What's a $5 game really worth compared to 18 months x3 developers? Beats the pants off of me! Hopefully the ongoing item additions, Game Center support, monsters, etc. have given people their money's worth on the original investment, even without the Skelly purchase. And we're far from done giving stuff away for free, I hope, even beyond the occasional free class. One of our next updates from our artist should introduce Jay Geldhof's winning Jani-Taur monster design into the game.
