I picked this up when it went on sale the other week, but only now have fired it up. I have never played a roguelike before - WOW! this game is really great Are all roguelikes as good as this? the interface is great, I always appreciate ability to play my own music and the humour and art is fantastic. Mabe I havent gotten deep enough into it, but it plays like a dream and I havent experienced a single bug. Thanks to the Dev for giving such a good first impression to a roguelike newb!
I would love some tips on how to do better at this game. I enjoy it, but it's starting to get frustrating that I make it through the Bandit Hole levels and boss easily, then I die on the 1st or 2nd Dungeon level. Every stinkin' time. It's starting to get old, but I'm sure there's got to be some tips that could help me progress further. Anyone? I've tried both characters and have about the same result.
I think the only general tip there is, is to go slowly. One step at a time! No rushing in big rooms. Try to fight monsters one by one. Retreat into floors, if there are too many... What problems do you have with the Dungeon levels? In what situations is your rogue dying?
in one game the mana stopped to recover, feature or bug? also sometimes game crashes to springboard, i must say it was more stable before update.
Being particularly low on Belly has, depending on the update, halted either energy regeneration, health regeneration, or both. The goal was to prevent people from being able to overcome hunger by raising their max HP with scrolls and such. I think in 2.1 it should be killing off health regen, but not energy.
Just made it to Hell (Hell 2, actually) for the first time! I was already getting to bed late, but I was so into it that I turned down the brightness and played another hour while my wife slept. Love this game BTW what is the general strategy on the pope? Does it make any difference if you kill off more than one of the chanting acolytes? I don't really see any effective strategy to do that, but I was curious. It was my first time to reach that battle.
I die. That's the problem. Typically I get outnumbered in a room and I can't retreat and they make quick work of me. Happens every time. I'm sure there's some basic principal of this game that I'm missing, but the tutorial didn't really help. I do try to take my time when entering rooms, but somehow I get surrounded anyway.
I find the best way is to kill 2 acolytes on the side, then use nets to pin skeletons on the magic squares. Then just kill the acolytes that come out the door, and beat up the pope. I find that 3x3 crystal attack, and holy fire are quite good.
Good strategy... but since the last update, the pope seems to be way more resistant to the 3x3 crystal magic... so I don't use that anymore on the pope.
Same goes for thrown energy potions. Satan used to be 1-shottable with Magic Crystals, which is no fun for anyone.
Just curious, but weren't we supposed to get an update today, with a new character class? The skeleton people? I was kinda looking forward to it!
We are in review, currently, and could be out any day. We don't have any control over when Apple releases the updates (or, if we wanted to, it would be later than Apple's dates, guaranteed). Sorry if we indicated we had one exact day that it would launch. Soon! Soon soon.
Ok, awesome! I was referring to the article on Touch Arcade where the 15th date was mentioned. Can't wait to see the new update when it comes out!
2.2 is live! Skellyman available now for $0.99 in-app purchase! (or will be on your regional App store in the next 24 hours, most likely in under 3)
Just downloaded the update locally. Trying to get the purchase throws an error, currently, reading: "Player Class Error" "Could not retrieve Player Class from App Store. Please check your internet connection and try again". I received this error twice during development. First was immediately after setting up the product. Second was immediately after shipping to Apple. It seems that any time there's a transition of the product to / from the Sandboxes or within Apple it floats aimlessly for a while before a device can find it. Both previous times it was about a 12 hour way, but hopefully for a live update it will reach its destination more readily. I'll post as soon as I can purchase it successfully.
Happy to pay .99 for a new class... especially if it keeps them from putting those ridiculous ads back into my game.
