GameLab is giving away some promocodes, in exchange for your creativity.. As you maybe already heard, Probably Nuts is the game about squirrel. It's jumping, falling, collecting nuts, avoiding Santa, squeaking and flying. In general, it's talented and bright character. It can learn fast. How do you think, what other game it can be featuring? Best ideas are rewarded with promocodes! (contest results to be announced on 30.12)
Other features or minigames it can have: 1. The squirrel can eat a bug or insect and the insect will go into its stomach and avoid all the obstacles in the stomach or be killed by the gastric juices. 2. The squirrel can go into a hole at some cliff and then go into another world. Then it become a platform 2D horizontal game instead of a vertical game. The time limit to complete this hole adventure varies from hole to hole. Bigger holes have more time to complete. 3. The squirrel can be rear as a pet after completing X number of jumps and X number of achievements. User can pet it on the head and feed it. These are the 3 ideas it can be improved.
Need to have that squirrel running and jumping/avoiding obstacles, either along a long platform, or even a treadmill! He could swim underwater and try to catch gems, but not get eaten by the fish! Also he should be throwing something. Maybe a big rock. Or dynamite. Into water, or just off the top of a building. Perhaps he could throw lighter items directly into the wind, and then try to dodge them when they come flying back at him! I think he'd do well in a Frogger-style game, dodging traffic and/or jumping across rocks floating in lava. And avoiding Santa Claus of course... I think I need more coffee. He could have a game where he drinks coffee! Maybe even roast it and brew it without scalding himself. Got nothing. Have him catch pancakes on his head, try not to lose the entire stack! Avoid butter, it makes him slip! Syrup makes him move slower. (sticky) That's all for now.
I noticed that most games people like are platforming games. Platforming games have been around since the beginning of gaming. (Mario Bros., etc.). A platforming game could be really fun with a squirrel in it! The squirrel could jump and slide through levels until he gets to the end, where he would fight a boss to receive a nut. Throughout these levels, the squirrel would receive different types of nuts (E.g. Acorns, peanuts, pecans, walnuts, etc.). The object of the game is to collect all the nuts and insert them all in a door. The door would open, and the squirrel would have to fight the boss for the golden acorn (or peanut, or walnut, etc.).
I think you should get together with the developer of Flickitty and see if you can give the cat a guest spot. Maybe you could have a level where the computer controls the cat and you must race him to the top of the level. Maybe you could even throw in some of the obstacles from that game as things the squirrel needs to avoid. [Edit] You know, I should read the rules better. Guess you were looking for another type of game to star the squirrel in, huh? I still like my additional level idea for Probably nuts, but here goes: How about a cart racing style game (perspective-wise), but the vehicles could be planes instead? You could make the visuals like kids' toys, where the drivers are really big and cartoony and are actually visible outside the cockpit (hard to describe with words, but hopefully you get the picture). You could have monkeys down on the ground blowing smoke rings into the air that the drivers can fly through for extra points. Why monkeys? No other reason than that monkeys are cool. Of course there would have to be weapons. The squirrel could have an acorn shooter as his standard weapons, and then come up with some wacky things like a bubble gun that encapsulates the other drivers so they temporarily can only float along instead of actually flying / steering. You know, as I'm writing this I'm beginning to think I should have kept this idea to myself Anyway, I'll try to come up with more if I get a chance to think about it.
btw, Happy New Year! and all the best in upcoming 2010! Thanx so much, guy, for your replies. We really appreciate your ideas, participants already received their prizes, but we still have promocodes to give! Show us some creativity, give some feedback, and you'll receive this game for free! we are really excited to hear from you!
My ideas: 1. A floating Commodore 64 and if you hit it you'll get retro graphics for about 15 seconds. The background will be black and the objects are green and you only see outlines. It is very rare to see a Commodore 64. Btw, this probably it too much work... 2. A rope that traps you when you fly into it. It will sling you away and then you have a horizontal 2d game that looks like Yetisports. You have 5 throws to reach the end of the level. 3. A special ability that you can use one. You activate the ability by tapping on a button and when you've done that the big front teeth of the beast will stick into the background. You can than sling yourself up. You use this when you're about to fall downwards. I hope these explanations are clear...
Squirrels are jumpy little rodents constantly in search of coffee and thrills! -Dogs and cats are always trying to run them down. -Sometimes bird feeders are designed in a way to stop a crafty squirrel...but as this guy is so smart maybe he can find a way to still grab some seeds? -As the jackasses of the backyard, they'll tease a barking dog with chattering or try to get food from some hard to reach spot when there is abundant and easily accessible food on the ground just because they can.
part puzzler, part platformer have him drink an energy drink and then he has to run around avoiding obstacles, moving items, triggering events to get to the end before time runs out...thinking soosiz and the clip here
What about putting trees on either side of the screen and force the player to swerve left and right to avoid branches on the way down. Landing square on a branch would definitely involve the game's title. ;-)
How 'bout a game like Imp or Oaf where instead you have male and female squirrels. If you think it's a male, you guess "Probably Nuts." (it's late... )
I'd buy that for a dollar Well, probably not, but it's still an amusing thought for first thing in the morning.
Contest Results Thank you, guys, again, for participation and creativity! Hopefully, everybody received their promocodes and got chance to enjoy the game. We love your ideas, special "thank you" goes to otggamer and Frog and to Devilishly Good, for video posted.. Stay tuned, more contests soon! cheers, GameLab
